I had a private training session with Dee Cee, and it was worth every penny! She has a real passion for training dogs and she is very respectful, clear, thorough and effective. My dog Gubi has behavior problems and Dee Cee came up with methods that immediately worked! She also gave me great tools and tips to use in the future. I was so impressed with Gubi's progress in just a day and I feel like I know my dog much better now. Thank you Dee Cee!!

In all my years of owning dogs I have never met a better trainer than Robert Weatherwax. His approach to my dog was so friendly and kind that they bonded in just a few minutes. Sadie (our dog) was VERY receptive to learning how to sit, stay and walking properly when given the correct commands. Robert uses a chain collar and small treats to get her to do the correct things. I was against the collar until I saw he used it gently and Sadie wasn't afraid. Now she loves our walks with the collar and actually gets in her spot (another command) so I can put it on her. Don't get me wrong. SADIE still needs work on MY part but Robert has been nice enough to have some refresher classes mainly for me. I was lucky that a friend recommended Robert to me.

My dog, Eevee, is completely obident after the two week in board training. She still gets hyper/excited but as soon as I give her a command, she immediately listens now! I'm not having to fight with her, she walks close and along side of me, follows my lead. I tried other places and this place really works, worth every penny!

Angela did a wonderful job looking after our fur kids! We have one dog, two kitties and a foster kitty that she watched over. She walked our dog twice a day, played with the kitties and even brought our mail in! She will send you updates and pictures if you ask her to. I highly recommend her, she did a great job!

Working with Alison Lee was a wonderful experience. I have two lrage puppies and one senior dog. She was patient and understood the situation with the dogs. She was never judgmental when I did not practice as I should have. The techniques are invaluable as I continue to work with the puppies. The puppies loved her! She was consistent and firm, but never mean. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to train a dog utlizing positive training techniques.

Susan is not just a loving care taker of my dog, Max and my cat, Sir Purrs A Lot, but I think she's actually an animal whisperer. She is my daily dog-walker and has also house/dog/cat sat for a week at a time on many occasions. I completely trust her and know that my animals are in great care when she is with them. I would recommend her highly.

Robin is the dog walker everyone dreamed of having. Most importantly beyond the simple walk, she cares. Each day, Robin goes above and beyond with documenting walks with photos and updates – which is extremely helpful for working professionals who spend most of their day in the office and want to know the babies at home are not only safe, but happy. Outside of her amazing responsiveness during walks, Robin is our first call for any questions regarding the puppies behavior trends – she has easily become their family. It is important for us to have someone we can trust, so it’s been great to have her over the last several months. Not to mention, when our puppies ran away, she was the first to continuously check in and aid with resources to track them back down. Recommend is an understatement!

Danielle is amazing with my Little yorkie snickers. He is a senior dog, about to be 12 and is going blind. She is extremely patient and kind with him, he is newly blind so walking him can sometimes be a little intimidating because he doesn’t move as fast, Danielle handles it like a champ! She has also been a savior when I’m working long days and I need someone to stop by and feed snickers, walk him, give him some love and some cuddles. Not to mention her prices are very reasonable! I highly recommend Danielle for all your dog walking and boarding needs! She is the sweetest!!

I first met Wendy through the City of Laguna Niguel dog training classes and she has been in our lives ever since. Her commanding personality and love for all dogs makes her the perfect dog trainer. Not to mention she picks up and delivers our dog when we need to go out of town! Penny is always excited about her time with Wendy and the other dogs and returns better behaved after a weekend with Wendy!!!

We were so worried about leaving our very sensitive dog and independent cat when we needed to be out of town for a week. It was truly a blessing to find Linda (Roo's Pet Sitting Service). She put our dog Bella at ease immediately, and even came to see us again a day beforehand to make our girl more comfortable with her presence before we left. She was able to charm our cat with no problem as well. Linda stayed overnight with our babies, provided their meals and ensured Bella had good long walks. Throughout our trip she texted us daily to let us know how our babies were doing. On top of that she took care of plants and mail at no extra charge. I would recommend Linda to anyone who wants good, loving and affordable care for their pets.

I use Rover as both a sitter and an owner and have always had a fantastic experience with the service. I've used 6 different sitters/walkers for my French Bulldog, Maple, and all have been professional and welcoming, and have treated my dog like a member of their family.

At the last minute I required a sitter for my special needs senior dog Xena. Alicia came over and immediately I knew we had found the right fit. Xena requires lots of potty breaks with the use of a sling which can often scare people and Alicia was happy to take on the challenge. I would recommend her to anyone!

Wag is here and has single-handedly solved all of my dog-walking problems. My work schedule changes often and I sometimes have to leave my puppy home at the last minute. This app makes it so easy to schedule a walk on short notice. Best part is you get actual proof your dog went on a walk! Pics, a report card, and the amount of time your dog was walked. I've had problems with walkers in the past not being honest about how long they've taken my dog out for, but not with Wag! Love this service.

Trent is nothing short of an ideal partner in our pet care. We instantly felt comfortable with him upon first meeting and it is beyond clear that our puppy is benefitting from his care. He takes great care of the dog, our house and our peace of mind. Trent keeps us up to date on when he's with our pup and when he leaves. He's extremely flexible and reliable. We cannot recommend Trent highly enough for your pet needs!!

We hired Janice to pet sit our dog and cat while staying in our home for a period of three weeks while we were on vacation. We had never hired a pet/house sitter before, so I was very nervous about finding the right person. Janice was completely understanding and patiently answered questions and provided requested documents to address any concerns. During our initial meeting, Janice asked excellent questions regarding our pets' routines, meals, personalities and health which demonstrated care and experience related towards the care of pets. She also asked very good questions pertaining to staying in our house as part of her house sitting responsibilities. I felt very at ease meeting Janice and hired her without reservation. While we were away, Janice regularly texted us with updates and photos of our "furry family" which was very comforting to us. When she was faced with a couple of minor, unexpected home repair issues, Janice handled the problems very well and responsibly. With Janice's excellent, regular communication, we were never in doubt about our pet's well being and the care of our home. Janice was an excellent pet care provider and took very good care of our home. It is very evident that Janice loves animals and they absolutely trust her and love her! My dog and cat were immediately comfortable with Janice and so were we! She is very kind, caring and wants nothing more than to connect with your pet and take outstanding care of them! Janice exceeded our expectations and we wouldn't hesitate to hire her again! Her rate was excellent and very competitive! You can trust Janice!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
