I had a private training session with Dee Cee, and it was worth every penny! She has a real passion for training dogs and she is very respectful, clear, thorough and effective. My dog Gubi has behavior problems and Dee Cee came up with methods that immediately worked! She also gave me great tools and tips to use in the future. I was so impressed with Gubi's progress in just a day and I feel like I know my dog much better now. Thank you Dee Cee!!

My two Golden Retrievers (the "boys) were not very social with other dogs. Robert is extremely knowledgeable and uses a rewards-based approach to training the boys. Training with Robert has given me the ability to handle distractions and be safe around other dogs while walking with them. Robert treats my dogs with great love and is amazing about making sure that I understand the proper techniques to train with my dogs outside of our lessons. I highly recommend Robert to help with any training issue(s) or behavior modification problem.

I have one cat and two dogs, and they are my life. I truly wish I could spend all the time in the world with them, but I have a grueling work schedule and can't walk my little guys on weekdays. Superstar walks my dogs Mon-Fri and are so flexible with my fluctuating schedule. I'm so glad my friend referred me to Superstar! They really treat my furry little babes like the stars they are LOL. Barbie is wonderful, I have personally talked to her on several occasions and she is very sweet and understanding about my pets' needs. Specifically my cat Elvis who has issues trusting new people. Sometimes it's hard to find a dog walking company that is also great with cats, but they are experts with both. Since it went so well with feeding my cat and walking my dogs, I have also hired them for a few overnight stays while I am out of town. I know my pets really appreciate not being left alone for hours on end. There has never been a problem with that either, I know I could trust them. So, I highly reccomend Super Star and feel comfortable referring them to my closest friends and family.

Angela did a wonderful job looking after our fur kids! We have one dog, two kitties and a foster kitty that she watched over. She walked our dog twice a day, played with the kitties and even brought our mail in! She will send you updates and pictures if you ask her to. I highly recommend her, she did a great job!

I was visiting LA for a friend's kid's 1st birthday down in Playa Vista, and brought my pup along with me for a little getaway in LA. The venue did not allow dogs, so I went with Doggie Bliss for a 3 hour walk. It also worked out to tire the pup out, since I had a 6 hour drive back to Phoenix after the party. Marc showed up right on time, we had a discussion regarding my pup's behavior and tendencies, especially his high prey drive not allowing for any off leash time. While Marc was out, he sent me updates via text, and also to ask if he could take the little guy down to the beach. He came back right as the party ended, and the pup was all tired out just in time for the car ride home. The original correspondence was via their website, and emails back and forth to set up an online account for billing, and overall the process was very convenient. I was expecting a rate on their wbe site of 33/hour, but they ended up giving me a special rate of 75 for 3 hours. If I end up back in LA, I would definitely call Doggie Bliss if I ever had to be away from my pup. My brief meeting with Marc was more than enough to assure me that these people absolutely love dogs and what they do, and although I was extremely nervous about using an out of town dog walking service, they did an absolute amazing job. Highly recommended if you are in the Santa Monica/West LA area.

The Speed Walking Dog's staff is dedicated and fanatical about taking care of my two dogs. To begin with, from the first call Lisa is already taking information down about the personalities of my dogs to match with one of her walkers not necessarily the walker closest to where I live. My dog walker usually ends up spending more time with them than the half hour and then texts me at the end of each walk. I am so pleased. I hope I never move from their service area.

If you're reading this review, then you are quite aware of the convenience hiring a professional dog walker can do. For example, you probably know that you're dog is not just any dog, and whomever you're entrusting their care into, you're going to need research and fact-check and then price compare, and that takes time that, obviously you don't have because you are here searching for a dog walker. And trust me, there is nothing wrong with that. Alison was a Godsend to me. Other than my boy, I live alone. And I work. And sometimes, work doesn't end when I think it might. Having Alison visit Winston each afternoon, gave me the piece of mind I needed, so I could focus on what it is that is going to keep me at my desk for a while yet. Alison was so good to him. And I could tell from her messages, that they were really quite compatible. Winston is not an easy dog to control, when he wants to chase something. I was impressed with how Alison handled him in those instances. Look, save yourself some time, save yourself some worry, and book a meet and greet and see if you don't agree with all I'm going on about.

Susan is not just a loving care taker of my dog, Max and my cat, Sir Purrs A Lot, but I think she's actually an animal whisperer. She is my daily dog-walker and has also house/dog/cat sat for a week at a time on many occasions. I completely trust her and know that my animals are in great care when she is with them. I would recommend her highly.

Danielle is amazing with my Little yorkie snickers. He is a senior dog, about to be 12 and is going blind. She is extremely patient and kind with him, he is newly blind so walking him can sometimes be a little intimidating because he doesn’t move as fast, Danielle handles it like a champ! She has also been a savior when I’m working long days and I need someone to stop by and feed snickers, walk him, give him some love and some cuddles. Not to mention her prices are very reasonable! I highly recommend Danielle for all your dog walking and boarding needs! She is the sweetest!!

Hire this girl! Robin is amazing and you can tell she truly loves animals. She used to walk our 15 year old Golden Retriever. Violet loved her! Robin does take the best pictures and since we recently had to say goodbye to Violet, we cherish them. Robin currently walks our rescue puppy, Walter. He adores her! She walks him, spends time playing with him and tiring him out, and even patiently trains him. Her hard work has really helped us. He sits at all doors and street corners. He also sits and waits before he runs out of his crate. Robin continues to take great photos of Walter and texts us daily updates about his behavior and how his walk went. We are so lucky to have found a trustworthy and caring dog walker. We really appreciate her hard work and care for our dogs.

Arlene was easy to communicate with, flexible, and arrived promptly. She was very respectful of our dogs anxiety and waited until the dog was ready to pet her or show affection. She is thorough and made sure our girl had everything she needed at all times. She made sure to give her as many walks as our dog wanted/needed and fed her at our requested times. She also administered medication. It is clear that Arlene loves and respects animals! Highly recommended.

I have been using her services since my puppy was 6 months, and he is now 3 1/2 years old. She has been watching my dog for the past three years, and my dog is quite picky on what he likes and doesn't like! What I like the most about her services is that she is VERY flexible, many times I have last minute jobs, and she is ALWAYS readily available to take him in. I also enjoy that she sometimes has other small dogs for him to play with, but not where it is overwhelming like a doggie daycare (my dog likes to be just with one person or dogs similar to his sweet temperament). He always wags his tail when I drop him off, and is always happy to see her daughter (my dog loves kids). When I pick him up, he is always tired and passes right out once I leave to go back home, meaning he had fun and was busy while staying over. She also caters do his diet and bathroom regime. She makes sure that when you leave your dog with her, that your dog is treated the same way as you would treat him/her. I would highly recommend her services especially if your dog is picky and you want that more personal touch in a doggie day care service.

Patricia Gleason has been my dog walker for about four years and was recommended to me by a neighbor. Patricia is like the neighborhood dog caretaker: she knows every dog on the block and they all love her! Patricia truly loves and cares about my dog. She always sends me text updates whenever she cares for him which I greatly appreciate, it's always comforting to get updates about your furry friends. She is great at reading dogs and knowing what care they will need: are they aggressive? Do they pull? Should they be kept away from other dogs or people? Patricia always knows what to do. Patricia is very cautious and responsible and I would recommend her to anyone who needs a dog walker (and I have recommended her to friends in the past). She has walked my dog daily while I'm at work and has also cared for him while I was on vacation. My dog Louie LOVES Patricia and actually smiles when he sees her. She's a true animal lover.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
