I love to sing it´s just fun for me and it makes me happy. But I´m not a singer and don´t even want to go up on stage. I´m trying to be a songwriter andv I was just visiting a workshop at the songwriting school of LA. And on this evening I met Jan the first time. At the moment I´m travelling and I never thought that I would stay in one city that long. But at this evening when Jan made this workshop I swear you guys, I hadn´t laugh that much for a long time. When she asked me if I´d like to come to the class I just had to say yes. It was a heart decision and I don´t regret it! This woman is a very talented singing teacher and also songwriter with a lot of experience, for sure. But she´s much more than that because you can have a REALLY bad week or day, but the second you walk into that class this woman saves your day! She ´s just so funny! Every week I´m looking forward to that day. Of course the most people only want to learn how to sing or to perform but I think it ´s also important to feel comfortable and accepted. And she gives everyone the feeling of being accepted and she takes care of every student. And just to be clear, of course it´s not all about fun and of course you´ll learn A LOT. I just want to say that you´ll be enjoying it to learn from her ;) Thank you Jan
Richard Gill is an extremely talented and kind music teacher. I have been working with him for one year and I now sing well in the women's choir- Athenas at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. It has strengthened my voice and improved my self confidence tremendously!
Stephanie is a top notch musician, piano instructor, and human being. Her lesson plans are well structured and fun, and her enthusiasm for teaching is apparent as well. I highly recommend choosing Stephanie as your piano teacher.

Paul is one of the greatest music teachers there could be. I've studied with him for about two years -- my skill and understanding have really developed. He's a great player and has a million ways to explain things so if you don't get it one way, there's always another approach.
We decided to chose Brian for my teenage daughter's beginning guitar lessons due to his willingness to teach her the type of songs that she wanted. Right away he connected with her and her music. He taught her the theory behind playing guitar as well as teaching her the tricks and skills of how to play the guitar. His practices were enjoyable and not just rote. She learned very quickly and therefore stayed excited about learning. Brian was always very complementary and encouraging. Brian also helped us buy useful equipment like a tuner, etc. She always felt safe and comfortable. We would highly recommend Brian as a guitar teacher.
Marquita Waters is by far one of the best vocal instructors around. Although her and I are used to playing different genres of music, Marquita is able to adapt to any style to benefit the performer. Most importantly, Marquita teaches the singer how to put on a performance and captivate the audience's attention. Highly recommended.
Thomas is a great piano teacher who is incredibly professional, patient and helpful. He is fantastic at noticing deficiencies in your playing and is able to get you to fix them without ever being overbearing or too harsh. He's incredibly patient, knowledgeable and incredibly flexible in his schedule. There were times when I had to change my lesson times and he always made sure to find time for us to get our lesson in. Thomas offers the best lessons for the best price! Whether you're a casual player or looking to help improve your chops, Thomas should be your first choice.
Chris is an amazing teacher. He really doesn’t like to mess around. Learning how to play the guitar is not an easy task at all, but after just a few lessons with Chris I can guarantee that you’ll feel more confident in your ability.
Ive been taking weekly lessons from Kim for four years. What a great instructor! I look forward to each lesson. Before my very first lesson, Kim met me at Guitar Center to pick out the equipment I needed to get started - who does that anymore? Kim truly cares about her students and the music - theres no comparison to any music academy mill. When I first started taking lessons, I also tried a couple other instructors and Kim is by far the best most, knowledgeable instructor I found. I couldnt believe Oscar gave her one star what a joke! This guy never even took one lesson from her or saw the inside of the studio where she gives lessons and talks trash about her?? You couldnt ask for a better instructor or location. I would recommend Kim to anybody without hesitation. I drive two hours for my one-hour class every week, and would drive further if needed. Totally worth the one-on-one personal treatment Kim provides.
Michael, from my first lesson was so attentive to what I wanted to learn. Kind of in passing, I told him that I loved to sing but was afraid to so he really coaxed me to sing along to all the guitar songs I was learning (I really do not think that any other guitar teacher would have bothered...like "not my job". But, not Michael, he took that on as his job because he recognized that it was important to me). Likewise, when I would show an interest in a particular type of music (i.e. I like acoustic and more mellow, verging on country even), he found songs like that for me and he taught me my songs I had picked even though I doubt that they would have been his picks. In summary, he wanted me to relate to and enjoy the music; the lessons are all about what I want to get out of them...with professional guidance along the way as well. The other thing I want to definitely mention is that, Michael is top-knotch, professional and KNOWS music. He encouraged me to not only learn songs to play but to understand the theory of the music in those songs. I feel very proficient in music theory after taking classes with Michael. I not only play the stuff but I "get it." I understand the technical theory involved. I really think that this is something not every guitar teacher brings to the table or encourages. Many just do not know it! With Michael, we can move from guitar to piano so that he can illustrate something about chords in a key or the difference between major, minor, dominant and diminished chords. Bottom line, I have fun during my lesson but I learn so much more than memorizing chord shapes on the guitar. And, when I play and sing a song...well, it really feels great! Honestly, he is the BEST! He just cares so much about you learning all you can regarding music and he knows how to teach it so that you get to understand what can at first seem so unfamiliar. Michael has the holistic approach. He makes music familiar, logical, relatable and, most of all, Enjoyable. As his student, thumbs-up!
Being a complete beginner to drumming, Michael Leffler was a great teacher. He was always upbeat and able to match my pace of learning while still pushing me to do more. The lessons focused on new material so they never felt repetitive, and any time I had questions he was able to answer them in an easy to understand way. Overall I would highly recommend him as a music teacher.
I interviewed quite a number of bass teachers before choosing Kellen. He's very on top of things, communicates well, gets right down to business and stays focused for the entire time, and is great at explaining and encouraging the student. I'm very happy with his lessons and would recommend him to anyone looking to learn bass guitar or upright bass.
Love David! He was my first electric bass teacher, I started taking lessons from him when I was about 15. He's very practical and casual, you know he's not gonna make you play scales up and down with a metronome for the entire lesson. A more typical lesson would be David showing you how to apply a certain mode, or pattern to a particular tune or situation. Then he'll turn on the drum machine and you'll take turns soloing and holding down the groove. He's very inspiring as a teacher, partially because he's such a good bass player and also because he treats his students like serious musicians. After learning from David for a few months I really started to get into music and began practicing rigorously. Great guy and great teacher! Highly recommended!
Howard Richman is not a piano teacher...he is a LIFE CHANGER. I went to him to learn piano...but realized that the lessons I learned studying piano with the MASTER were not merely lessons in music....but lessons that helped me see outside the paradigm in all areas of my life. Often, as adults, we "come back" to our music...to study what we have been "wanting to get back to" for years. I learned that this is often a time of great change and evolution for us personally. Howard, being so intuitive, knows how to tune in to each individual's needs.... and empower them to EMPOWER themselves. He is a BRILLIANT pianist, composer and master teacher. I've watched him perform miracles with young children who struggled with other teachers who simply wanted to teach "by the book." Howard is always able to find your inner talent and abilities, possibly that are even unknown to you...and he can creatively, intuitively and intelligently create a course of action that will leave you amazed! That's why you are reading SO many wonderful comments here about him. If you are lucky enough to get to study with Howard, it will change your life!...and btw, I can now play a mean Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"....Thank you for everything you taught me Howard Richman! Maddy Reese is an excellent piano teacher! She is thorough, professional and encouraging, not only with regard to lessons, but recitals and NYSSMA prep. as well. My daughter benefited tremendously under Maddy's instruction.
Been taking Guitar/Vocal lessons with Michael for 7 years. Not only is he a skilled Musician and Teacher, but he is also an exemplar and will push you out of your comfort zone.
Brandon is a consummate professional in his music instruction. He teaches his students not just to play the violin, but to enjoy the violin. In just a few months my ten-year-old was reading music and playing scales. A year later, she is playing songs and will soon do her first recital. Brandon is a great music teacher. We highly recommend him.
Toby was my flute teacher throughout high school, and I credit her for my acceptance into the UCLA School of Music for Flute Performance. She taught me how to be disciplined in my practicing, and how to never give up, even when it got tough. She taught me how to succeed in a musically fast paced environment by teaching me tricks about tuning, and how to learn pieces in a short amount of time. I am eternally grateful for Toby's incredible teaching, and I will use the advice and insight she gave me for the rest of my musical career.
I started taking lessons with Toby about 5 months ago. I had been taking lessons for about a year and a half with another teacher after a 30 year hiatus from seriously playing flute. I have made tremendous progress with Toby. She is patient, yet pushes me to improve in all aspects of my playing. She is also teaching me music theory which none of my other flute teachers taught me. My flute lesson is the highlight of my week.
Ryan Rowles is an experienced and engaging music teacher. Very warm, personable, and talented. I would highly recommend him for students of all ages!
