Rainforest Tree Service went out the same day to take a look at my palm trees. Alfonso got back to me the same day with a very reasonable quote and was able to do the job the next week. They were very prompt and did the job in a timely manor. Eight palm trees in all. Alfonso, as well as his crew were very pleasant. Will use them again and would highly recommend.

We had a whole lot of things that needed to be hauled away; construction demolition, accumulated trash, yard waste, and a whole room full of boxes. Chris and his assistant worked quickly and efficiently - taking 4 loads to the dump. They even did the demolition of large items. They also did a great yard cleanup for us, including tree trimming, and left the patio and driveway swept clean. Nice guys, great work at reasonable prices. We will be hiring them again in the future.

Wow, what can I say they cleaned my yard and took down 5 palm trees. They did all that work same day. I really like that they are insured because I wasn't worried about any damages to my home. I had 3 guys come and they all worked pretty hard. I spoke mainly with Catarino who spoke a good amount of English but the lady i booked with over the phone had let me know if I didn't understand anything I could just call the office which I haven't had to do so far. I have them come every week now.

We had our entire yard cleaned up, weeded, bushes and trees trimmed. He came by quickly after our request and gave us a very competitive quote and then came back within a few days to complete the job. Everything we asked for was completely and our yard looks the best it has since we bought it. We will definitely be using them in the future.

Great. He called ahead, showed up before 9 a.m., his crew did extra work. The company takes a check. They were all very nice and they worked fast. They trimmed about ten palm trees and took two to the ground. Because they did that so well, I had them take out a bunch of philodendrons and all their root system. Very happy. Will hire this company again.

Brian is incredibly efficient. Very responsive and right on time. I live in a townhouse with a tight backyard and wanted my palm tree partially chopped down so that it could be carved into a tiki later. I couldn't believe how fast he got it down and all the debris hauled off. All while being mindful of the fences just a few feet away and my plants down below. I don't have any more trees but I was happy to refer him to my neighbor and my parents.

These guys were fantastic. I was quoted for my project to be a two day thing, and they finished in about 6 and a half hours. They were clean and did exactly what I was quoted for, which was a total yard clearing. I live on a cul de sac so my yard is pie shaped, and they took it all out. George also trimmed my palm tree for me, which was so nice. Hire these guys ! They're great!

Fernando Ramos has been our gardener for many years. We had a small yard with many palm trees. Fernando made our small garden look great and took the best care of our palm trees . We now have a large yard and he has done an amazing job of transforming the backyard and side yard to a beautiful drought resistant garden. He's has also updated our lighting and irrigation systems. He does it all! We highly recommend Ramos Gardens!

Scott is super friendly and came to give us a quote right away. He is very knowledgeable and a stand up guy. He offered to pay for a window that one of the tree branches grazed as it was coming down. It wasn't even his fault. The job took a little longer then expected but we didn't mind.

Rick Mora and his crew are fantastic professionals. I had a tight deadline to revamp my front yard landscaping in time for a holiday party. They took what was 1,000 square feet of weeds, crabgrass, invasive trees, broken sprinklers, and overgrown palms and planters and transformed it into a water-conserving, beautifully designed and welcoming landscape including drip irrigation. I wish I had a "before" photo (the yard was a giant mess) and these "after" photos show a lot of leaves from a neighbor's giant deciduous tree that moulted suddenly because of a rain storm last night so they really don't do it justice. Rick's team gave my 6 queen palms (that I thought were beyond help) a perfect trim (they're already showing healthy new growth), removed half of my water-wasting sod (more weeds than grass) and replaced it with drought-tolerant plants, removed some cement borders that did nothing except interrupt the flow of the design, and replanted a small section of healthy sod (I needed a place for kids to play). They did this complete transformation in a few days. The team worked tirelessly ...and safely ensuring the sidewalk was safe for my neighbors to walk past. All workers wore safety harnesses while cutting down the large invasive "volunteer" trees and had a co-worker monitoring them to ensure nothing dangerous would happen to them or to my home. I can't say enough positive things about Rick Mora. I'll be asking him to tackle my backyard next!

Finally someone who listened to us and was knowledgable about our situation. He was in the middle in terms of pricing, but, on the high end in terms of quality and reliability. We trusted him, and it also helped that after removing some diseased trees, he would plant the new ones for us. When we asked other tree trimmers about planting, they said no, just wanted to cut trees. JJ's is full service. We will definitely be using him in the future!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
