WOW - I've had a lot of projects over the years, but this was my BEST experienced. Jose is a real professional with a great team. Quick to respond to needs. Excellent work and I mean excellent. Clean, quiet, professional... Jose responded quickly to my request, texted me when he was near arriving, gave me good advice on the quality of paint I needed and when I asked, he gave me his artist-like opinion. He doesn't only have quality work but he has a real eye for color in environment and cares about his work. I have already recommended him to three people and will use him again for painting but also have asked him to do some other projects that aren't painting because his team is so skilled in so many other areas too!

So pleased! Eddie's Professional Painting was the first to respond to my ad. I called, we talked, and I hired on Friday. As planned, Mario showed up at 8 a.m. on Sunday and was finished in approx. 7 hours. Mario worked straight through - I don't think he even took a break. His painting was excellent -- and we're talking wood trim around 9 windows and a large patio door, as well as painting repaired stucco adjacent to the trim (different color). I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Thank you very much -- and thanks to Thumbtack as well! Elaine Burroughs

I would recommend Antonio for painting! He was professional, fast and he paid attention to detail Plus, what I liked most, he cared about my reaction. He really wanted me to love the paint and finished product. I just bought a condo and I wanted it to be beautiful and that mattered to Antonio. He did a great job! Thank you Antonio!

Turned up on time. Did really good work. removed all dry rot, replaced, sealed and painted new wood trim which had to be cut to size and fit. Gave good advice on maintenance care. Kept to price which was good. Also made a helpful inspection of other areas of concern and quoted same day for those repairs.Left everything clean and tidy.

We had water damage, a bizarre whole-ceiling light fixture a la 70s, damaged linoleum flooring, 1/4-1/2” brown grout lines. & more. Jason fixed it all beautifully, demoing, drywalling, painting, tiling, cleaning, & painting more. His work is impeccable, he is very neat, & he did it all in about 5 days. He was helpful when we ran into plumbing issues, & when asked to add on random details like replacing damaged casing, painting the grout (eco-friendly), & helping with the ceiling fan, he was obliging.

There are 5 different categories that Thumbtack is asking for feedback on: Work Quality, Professionalism, Responsiveness, Value, and Punctuality. Mancillas Painting is run by the name of Rudy Mancillas so my review will detail his delivery on the 5 different categories. Puncuality: On the initial quote visit he was on time. After he left, i did have to remind him twice to send me the quote. However, when we set the date to start he quoted 2 days job and start at 7. Both days he was on time and made alot of progress the first day staying till 5 pm!!! Value: I received 4 different quotes for the job. Mancillas came at a great price. 3 from Thumbtack and a off the books contractor. Rudy came in, quoted, and stuck by his numbers even with some extra requests and requirements on the fly!!! Much appreciated. Responsivess: It's very important that a contractor is reachable before, during, and after the job. Things can change during the whole ordeal and Rudy was responsive everytime I texted him for: confirmation, change request to the original, or other misc stuff, he was always responding! Professionalism: Professionalist and Honesty should be combined or Honesty can be it's own category. The biggest reason I chose Mancillas was because of his Professionalism on the initial visit and I felt like i trusted his honesty in the discussion for the job. During the whole project, he and his teams professionalism was superb!!! Always engaged, always confirming, and always communicating on the work to make sure i was always happy. Quality: This one is probably the most important, yes? At the end of the day, we pay someone to do quality work. Especially when it costs this much and the work is visible to everyone. The quality they provided excellent. At the end of the job, i found out that he does exterior painting and I have already chosen him to do the outside of my house next year!!! Thanks Rudy for the great work. Ronald

Rudy from Mancillas painting was very easy to get in touch with from start to finish. He was on time for the appointments he made with me. He gave me several different options and quotes for the work. He explained everything thoroughly. The company uses very high quality paint to insure the best possible outcome. The team that did our work was on time, well prepared, worked very hard and did an excellent job. Rudy communicated with me throughout the 3 days that they worked on my house. They had to work around weather issues and finished the job before I expected them to be able to because of the weather. I am are very pleased with the work and are extremely happy with the way our house looks.

Ours was a small project and Five Star Painting did a terrific job from start to finish. They did what they said they were going to do, did it on time and on final walk through there were no issues. Cliff has a fine team who were very professional. They provided a summary of the days work and plans for the next day each evening after cleaning up. We recommend Five Star Painting and will certainly call them again.

Jose and his team did an amazing job painting the interior of my new home on short notice. Jose showed up at my final walk through, asked what I wanted completed and quickly and efficiently gave an estimate. We discussed that I would supply the paint - the amount to get (10 gallons) and he assumed it would take 2 coats as we were going to a light color. His team showed up the NEXT MORNING at 6:30am to start work. They did a fabulous job, no drips, no mess. They worked around another team installing floors and they even did a third coat at no additional charge. I highly recommend Jose and his team and I will be hiring them in the future. He even gave me rough estimates on painting the exterior of my home and refinishing the garage floor.

Pedro did an amazing job w/ all of our tile work: he completed two bathrooms, and rebuilt our fireplace. He was very reliable, professional, provides high quality work/service, and fast...we also hired him to help with some custom cabinet/shelf painting, and that also turned out beautifully. We would definitely recommend him (and will probably use him again!)

I hired Francisco to repaint my sun worn deck and railing. I was not disappointed. Francisco arrived on time, prepped the area, and proceeded to scrape/sand the whole area before priming and painting. My deck now looks as good as new. Thanks Francisco!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
