The technician, Uri, was very pleasant and accommodating. He worked very hard, nearly the whole day, to move furniture and clean & seal the tile throughout our home. The only suggestion would be to better evaluate the size of the job and have the appropriate staffing. Uri did a great job, but I think he could have used a little help.

I have a hurt shoulder and was not able to move any furniture off the floor. The gentlemen didn't mind and moved everything away to clean. He even put most of it back or put sliders on the furniture so I could slide it back into place once it was dry. The whole process was quick and painless. Within 24 hours of requesting quotes they were here cleaning the carpets. Called 20 minutes before arrival and showed up right on time. Did a quick walk through, and then began. Work was finished quickly and done right. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to everyone.

Jose was a great find! He showed up when he said he was going to be there, and did a thorough job, cleaning up both my front and back yard. He does great work, and is incredibly fair with his prices. I strongly recommend Jose!

My roommate and I hired Kept Fresh for a deep move-out style cleaning of our kitchen and bathroom. Two women arrived quite a bit early and got to work. Partway in Tiana's mom came by to oversee and make sure everything was going smoothly. They did a great job on my kitchen appliances like toaster-oven and microwave that were pretty dirty, and on my bathtub that had some mold. They did miss a couple spots on the kitchen floor and forgot the medicine cabinet in the bathroom but also did some extra stuff like vacuum between the hallways. I would hire them again.

Good price and great results. If I could, I would give 4.5 stars as there is one area of improvement I feel compelled to note. I understand not all people are animal people, but as someone who comes into people's homes with pets I would have appreciated a little more patience with dealing with my cat. I thought I communicated to Conrad that I'd leave her in the bedroom until he was ready to clean that area and then would move her into the bathroom as I didn't want to keep her locked in there the entire time. I didn't get a warning and all of the sudden my cat came flying out of the bedroom. Luckily I caught her before she scurried out the front door (which had to be open so the waterline could get to the machine—totally understandable) and ended up holding her outside for 20 min. or so while Connor finished up. That being said, I understand this could have been a communication issue on my end and I will still hire Pioneer's in the future for carpet and upholstery cleaning.

They were not here on time but they did a good job cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms. They were a little slow and did not put in a ton of effort in cleaning the bedroom and living room when they had to pick up and move things to clean under or around them. Overall satisfied with their work and professionalism.

LAVTY Cleaning is awesome! They offered a great quote and the quality of their hard work shined through. I have never seen a company spend as much time to detail as LAVTY Cleaning did. I hired Art of Clean to help me with some spring cleaning. I asked Katrina to focus on cabinets, especially in the kitchen, and the floors, in the kitchen and bathrooms. She also did general cleaning in the kitchen and 3 bathrooms. Katrina went right to work and spent the next four hours making my it all shine. Katrina did an excellent job, I couldn't be happier. Andrea, at the agency office did an excellent job too of setting up the appointment and understanding what I needed. Well done ladies!

Peggy did a fantastic job cleaning our 100 yr old Craftsman house, which has plenty of quirks. She was willing to do a thorough clean with short notice, having communicated clearly what she was able to do and how much she charged. Peggy arrived on time with a full range of equipment ready to go. She was pleasant, professional, positive and considerate. She is obviously an experienced cleaner and was careful to use the right cleaners and techniques for each task. Peggy did not stop until she was satisfied that the cleaning was done well. She worked very hard and did an excellent and thorough job. I highly recommend Peggy and I will certainly be asking her to clean again. She was a pleasure to work with.

Amber did a great job helping me with move-in cleaning. She responded very quickly and was able to work on the same day I contacted her. She was very thorough and quick. In just 2 hours, she managed to clean all the floor, wipe the cabinets, dust the shelves, vacuum the bedroom and cleaned the bathroom. I would recommend her to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

Who cleans couches?

Even if your furniture doesn’t appear dirty or stained, your couches are collecting just as much dust, pollen, germs, pet hair and dander, and even food crumbs as your carpets. In general, the same professionals who clean your carpets and drapes can also clean your couches. Carpet cleaners usually offer upholstery cleaning services as well, and may offer a discount if you have your carpets cleaned at the same time. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of professional upholstery cleaners in your area who specialize in cleaning different types of upholstery fabrics, including delicate antique fabrics and other hard-to-clean materials such as suede. In addition to deep-cleaning the entire piece of furniture, sofa cleaners can spot-treat food, pet, and oil and grease stains. Most professionals also offer services to sanitize and deodorize your furniture and apply protectants to prevent future stains. As with carpets, experts recommend that you have your upholstered furniture cleaned once every year or two, depending on how much use it gets and whether you have children and pets.

How much does upholstery cleaning cost?

The cost to have your upholstered furniture cleaned depends mostly on two factors: the size of the furniture and the type of fabric. The national average cost of upholstery cleaning ranges from $120 to $150. Most people have multiple pieces cleaned at once, but sofa cleaners will come to your home for just one heavily soiled couch or to spot-treat stains. The smaller the furniture, the lower the cost: A lounge chair may cost an average of $50 to clean, while a couch costs an average of $135 and an L-shaped sectional costs an average of $190. Delicate materials such as antique fabrics or suede upholstery are more expensive to clean than sturdier ones. Having the sofa cleaner do repairs will also add to the cost. Repairs such as mending a tear in fabric or patching a hole in leather may be charged by the task or by the hour; in general, repairs cost an average of $15 each. Special or delicate fabrics may cost additional fees, too.
