He did an awesome job hanging my big screen TV and hiding the wires. He also hung a big mirror for me and gave me some great advice in interior design for my house. Thank you! I highly recommend him.

I have used Scott Gressitt of San Diego Furniture Repair on several occasions and will continue to do so. His work product is superb. In this day and age finding a Craftsman that is honest, trustworthy, prompt, consistently providing superior workmanship st good value is s rarity. I will continue to use and recommend him to family, friends and other interior designers

I hired Arash Ghiasi to help me both with interior design ideas, and with the management and organization of the whole project. I am sure I will follow up with another review while the project is over, but there is a lot I can say even at this initial stage of the project. If you are looking for someone enthusiastic, inspired and inspiring, energetic and very knowledgeable, Arash is the interior designer you are looking for. He has already helped us a lot with space organization and colour selection, and the overall image of our space. As an artist (a painter) myself, I know quite a deal about color, and I can tell you -- Arash knows what he is doing when he chooses or suggests colors, and he has this rare ability to "synchronize" his thinking with your own feelings and ideas, which is is absolutely essential for an interior designer. The whole process was smooth, quick, and inspiring. As for the space organization, he offered us a solution for an area we've been struggling with for years. And it had a hallmark of all excellent design solutions: it felt completely right and (kind of) obvious when he suggested it. How could we not find it ourselves??? But the truth is, we didn't -- even though a lot of thinking went into it. All in all, we are very impressed with his work, his ideas, and his energy. I would recommend him to any friend who is looking for an interior designer.

Our property was due for an opening house in a week and we desperately needed staging in a short notice. We came across Shocase Staging on Thumbtack and contacted Juel and James. They promptly came over for a competitive quote and we chose them based on their portfolio and great customer service. We will definitely be using them again for their modern furniture and interior design.

This is my first time working with an interior decorator. I hired Brooke to help me design my living room. We just bought a new house and are trying to mix the older furniture with the new. Brooke, came in, assessed the situation, took pictures and measurements then came back the following week with a whole presentation including 2 different looks. She seemed to really understand my taste and put it all together nicely. She also offered to bring some samples to the house so we can see what it will look like in the room before I purchase them. I'm excited to see the room when it is complete. Brooke has been awesome to work with so far and I plan to continue to use her services! I highly recommend Brooke. She's extremely reasonable when it comes to cost and definitely goes above and beyond.

My husband and I have never worked with a man interior designer before. We had wanted to for some time but were hesitant to do so. After reading the many great reviews about Michelle we both felt like if anyone can help us out our home together (with mine and my husbands taste being vastly different) it would be her. From the moment we met her, she was so easy to work with. She was always in contact about ideas, potential furniture or art pieces and amazingly stayed within our budget. She was so responsive and it seemed like she was working day and night to find us exactly what we wanted. She also surprised us with many beautiful items that we would have never been able to pick out or come up with on our own. She has a real gift and a wonderfully creative eye. Our friends absolutely love how our house looks and we truly do too! We cannot recommend her enough! Thanks again Michelle!

I am a realtor and have worked with Ideal Homes Staging on multiple occasions to prepare listings for sale. Lorie's creative angle on design and decorating make a HUGE difference when I list a home. Not only does her staging help a home sell faster, but also for top dollar. There's nothing worse than presenting buyers with an empty home, or a poorly decorated one. The fee Lorie charges pays for itself many times over (5-10 fold return). Trust Lorie to help your home make the best first impression.

We brought Connie in to help organize our house after my wife and I joined households after recently getting married. We merged two good sized homes and we needed strategies to organize our things and decide what to keep and what not to keep. Connie was fantastic in giving us tips and she was very honest on what works and what doesn't work to assist us in upgrading our household. It wasn't just organizing, she worked with us to put us in a mindset to set our standards higher, and that we deserved to make our home and living space better and nicer. She is very professional and fun to work with, and she will cut right to the chase, and tell you her honest opinion on if you should keep certain things, and what looks good and not so good.which was extremely valuable. Connie was also very knowledgeable about how to arrange rooms to look their best. I would definitely recommend Connie for any project regarding organizing or a home.

Amazing!!!! I hired LaToya Creations to help with my holiday decor and Christmas scheme and more than thrilled with the outcome. She was attentive to what I wanted but also gave some much needed guidance on what direction to go to take things over the top (I love over the top lol). Any event, holiday, birthday or occassion you have I would highly recommend her over and over again. She is fantastic!

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by your environment? I have! I was a new sleep deprived mom dealing with a baby with so many health problems! I was honestly not even aware of how bad my house got, I could barely just keep the dishes done. But once the dust settled I literally felt trapped in my own house, I honestly felt like I was in an episode of hoarders, I just didn’t know where to start! Then I found out I was pregnant AGAIN, and I felt my world getting so out of control, so when my family asked what I wanted for my birthday I said HELP!!! I didn’t know where to start my search, I only found Interier designers for multi million dollar homes, that probably would of just laughed in my face and then locked me up in hoarders jail. I remember crying to Dustin feeling so overwhelmed asking him to help me after he just worked a 70 hour week! Thank goodness he had someone that was an interior designer!!! Tanya from Auxilio Design came to my house and honestly never made me feel like a failure. The process was so easy and so fun! She came to my house, I sent her pictures of my style, we worked out a budget, and then she did everything! It was like Christmas morning every time she texted me asking about a paint color or pillow. Then not only did she clean, organize, decorate, she works close with a contractor if you need repairs! Tanya was literally answers to my prays! We were able to work in phases, because we are working on one income! Our home is now the home me and Dustin always wanted! When I look back at those BEFORE pictures I cringe and want to cry. It’s ok to need help, as women and mothers, we can’t do it all, and I felt like a failure, BUT that’s not my skill and thank goodness there are people with an extreme skill like Tanya! Your home doesn’t need to be as dire as mine, but if you just want help with different color schemes or want your home to look like a magazine. Tanya can help with what ever you need. Thanks again for making me love coming home.

Josh was referred to me by a friend and he did an AWESOME job on my living room. When planning it out with me he made eveything kid friendly (I have two kids under 5 years), sophisticated, and easy on the pockets. I gave him a budget and he did everything from the painting, the handmade picture frame sets, and the buying. I totally recommend him whole heartedly!

Maryann Lorenz brought exciting continuity into our home. She suggested colors that flowed from room to room. She used our existing furniture and re-covered solid pieces instead of going new. She placed a desk at an angle: perfect. She put 3 statues on acrylic pedastals: perfect. She introduced us to stack tables saving space. She selected superb accesories which are both exquisite and timeless and have been comforting in style. She always kept our budget in mind but introduced options. We found a fabric in AZ and fell in love. She made the call and acquired same. Her added touches to furniture such as decorative trim on dining room chairs and pillows exudes charm. We feel so fortunate to have found Maryann Lorenz through a referral by close friends. Our home reflects us but also Maryann's classic good taste. Re the 3 statues mentioned earlier. They are angelic musicians. The acrylic pedastals are perfect as she wanted them looking as if they were floating . . . thus NO WOODEN tables: perfect!

I bought an old house 100 years old. in Chico California.. The house had 2 small narrow funny bedrooms and one bathroom. Floor plan seems hard to deal with since it was 980 sq. ft narrow long shape floor plan. I did not want to add more space or to move any exterior walls it seems almost impossible to change this floor plan and to get a decent floor plan.. I hired Rummy dechner to do the design work and to create a new floor plan with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. very unique and very challenging situation I must admit. I was impressed with the design Rummy Dechner create. The new Design have 3 beautiful bedrooms with 2 bathrooms Nice big kitchen open to a nice living room. Rummy dechner help me with the selection and interior design of the kitchen as well. This great design gave me the opportunity to rent this house for much more money then A similar house with 3 bedrooms in the neighborhood. I am very happy with the new home and appreciate very much the design, and the great services I got from Rummy Dechner.

Bungalow 56 | Interiors & Events is amazingly talented! They were there to guide me through the design process and listened to what I wanted to achieve with the look and feel of my home. My home was recently featured with Pottery Barn and West Elm for its beautifully executed design and style. If you're are looking for a remodel, designing a new space or styling for an event hire them because they are 5 star from start to finish.

Sell your house fast and sell for more! Leaving your property in “as-is condition” will only help sell the competition’s property in your neighborhood. Here’s why: Wow factor first impressions - In today’s tough market, the “Wow factor” first impression is absolutely required to help sell your home fast and increase its value. Do people say “Wow” when they walk in your home? Increased home value with minimal investment - Statistics suggest that staging a home typically provides a 343% return on investment! Sell your home faster - Staged homes sell 85-89% faster than non-staged homes according to the Real Estate Staging Association’s The Consumer Guide to Real Estate Staging (2009). Increased probability of selling: Over 84% of home buyers view listings of homes for sale on the internet. Staging your home will make it stand out from the competition on the internet. Certified professional home stagers are more objective - Most of us love our homes just the way they are, which is fine for living in them. However, to sell them they must appeal to a broad spectrum of buyers. Certified professional home stagers have a sharp eye for detail, understand the real estate market, and then will make a comprehensive list of suggestions and changes to help you make the selling process faster and more profitable. What do you have to lose (except more time on the market)? With over 20 years of marketing experience, Simply Stunning Staging will captivate a buyer’s attention using specialized design techniques that appeal to a broader range of potential buyers, thereby increasing the number of showings of your home. Our certified professional home stagers will use their unique and extensive training to maximize your home’s value and attract the attention of buyers as well as real estate professionals and investors.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

      • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
      • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
        • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
      • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
        • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
      • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
      • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
