Lou was AMAZING! I have worked with a lot of videographers and so far Lou has been the best. He made sure he understood every aspect of our event so that he could do the best job possible and was accommodating to all my requests. And his communication throughout the entire process could not have been better. I knew that when the day of our event came, he was going to be their to deliver! Our conference is jam packed with a lot of awards and presentations. He made sure to get it all and then some. When it came to editing, he had a few samll requests and I was happy to oblige. He used it to give it that high-end professional touch. High quality and super organized! I would highly recommend Lou for all your videographer needs!! Especially business conferences. Thank you Lou for all your hard work! It is greatly appreciated!

Pavol is a lifesaver! I need an event photographer last minute (like within 3 hours of posting on here) and Pavol was not only quick in response but was onsite with me walking the property within 2 hours. He was polite, professional, and very accommodating to our photography needs. I would give him my highest recommendation for your events! I look forward to using his work in my upcoming publications and on social media. Thank you Pavol and well done! I look forward to working with you again on any future San Diego projects!

Carrie did a fantastic job on our wedding video! She captured the entire day for us, including the morning preparation and the photo shoot after the reception. She created a moving musical video that blended together so beautifully the highlights of our wedding, truly conveying the magic of those moments. We chose Carrie after considering many videographers because her work really stood out as having a special creative touch. She is a very talented video artist and we highly recommend her services.

LV helped bring my vision to life. I was a bride on a budget and had every intent on showing up to my venue the morning of my wedding to set up myself. I knew I was biting off more than I could chew. Someone suggested I find a day of coordinator. After some research I knew LV was the perfect fit. She responded very promptly to my inquiry. Our first phone call was well over an hour as she clued me into small details that I hadn't even considered. She met me multiple times to preview the venue and discuss seating options. She also came to my home to pick up my décor and favors a week before the wedding to help alleviate any stress on the days leading up to the big day. The day of the wedding went without a hitch. The tables and décor were perfect and just as I had envisioned. She was attentive to guest and helpful every step of the way. In addition, LV used one of her many resources and contacts to find me a florist for my center pieces, again making things that much easier on me. During the planning I expressed to LV I was also in need of a videographer. Lucky for us, her husband Francisco was an experienced videographer and available, despite the short notice. Francisco arrived early and stayed with us through the end of the night, capturing several magical moments that we would have never been able to see or relive. This couple is patient, attentive and truly listen to the wants and needs of their clients. They put forth all their effort in ensuring you are happy and satisfied. They are truly a power couple, and make an awesome team. My husband and I so happy with our decision and would definitely recommend Odineva Events to anyone in need of an event coordinator.

Wayne and I had the pleasure of having Molden Works as our wedding photographers. They did a great job taking candids and posed pictures of the whole event, despite being limited in area during the ceremony. They were very kind and helpful and had wonderful ideas for photos for just the two of us that turned out amazing. We appreciate all the work they put into making our photos so special.

Joel is an excellent videographer and I highly recommend him. He is professional/responsible, patient, takes pride in his work, and does more than required. It is not just a job for him. Was on the fence about having a video and am so glad that I have this remembrance. He captured the event, with things I had forgotten, and was skilled at interviewing friends/relatives -- all at a very reasonable price. He is flexible and a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Joel!

I placed an ad for a videographer and Fernando responded amazingly quickly! The event was the next day, but he was on time for set up, had professional equipment, captured great footage and put together a highlight real the same day! Additionally, he was reasonable in pricing. I'm very grateful to find someone trustworthy so quickly on here.

Chris Angeles was the most amazing wedding videographer EVER!! He went above and beyond to make our wedding video incredible. He's awesome to work with and we couldn't be happier with our video and this investment. We've watched our video at least 60 times, way more than we've looked at our wedding album. A lot of wedding expenses are unnecessary but this is a cost that's 110% worth it. You won't regret going with Chris. Thank you so much Chris & team!! You gave us an unforgettable collage of the best day and memories of our lives!

One of the keys to successfully selling a home for top dollar is getting numerous buyers through a home. One of the ways we do that here at The Joles Group is to have great photographs both online and in print. This is where Scott comes in. He never fails to make the homes I list look there absolute best, no matter what the price point is. The proof of just how good he is, is how quickly the homes I list sell. I consider Scott an integral part of my team of professionals. My clients love his work and so do I. He is by far one of the best real estate photographer/videographers in San Diego County. If you are looking for someone who gives their highest and best. Who will only put out the best quality of product then you need to hire Scott Carmella.

Spearhead Media did an amazing aerial video project for me. Brady is my go-to for any videography project from now on & I highly recommend his company.  The team is friendly, professional, and their work is on point. I had a chance to check out a few videographers before Brady was recommended to me, and his was the best work I have seen by far.

It was an honor working with Jerome. His team is very reliable and very professional. We had trouble with our contracted videographer for our wedding, and we were glad that they agreed void our contract. Jerome was there to catch us 2 weeks before our wedding date. Jerome and his team pulled off a full coverage of our wedding including a short story, and a same day edit. We were especially impressed with the short story that Jerome put together in such a very very very short time. He is very talented, from writing the story concept down to coaching us with our acting. All of our guests were impressed with his work. We sure made the right decision by choosing to work with him.

Rob has been producing short videos for us over the past year. He's created about 100 videos -- all between 5-15 minutes long. He's prompt, professional, VERY reliable and responsive....pretty much all of the things you look for in a videographer. Plus, he's fun to work with. Strongly recommend.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
