I guess the good reviews might be from the local move within SF but not outside of SF. In my move from South Bay to SF, they were fine in the first part but it took them to drive for 1.5 hours to a place which we drove for only 45 mins bc they went to the wrong address but only deducted 10 mins from the whole time. I understand big truck would spend more time on the road but come on, 35mins difference (after the 10 mins deduction) There was def no traffic on the way there. So if you want to save more time + money especially if it’s a long-distance move, this one might not be the best choice.

We were very nervous about hiring movers. We chose Two friends because of our original meeting and pricing! Santos was professional and friendly and very informative. Our schedule changed a bit and they were very cooperative & flexible. Our long distance move went off without a hitch. Everything arrived safely and in a very timely manner- These guys worked very hard and efficiently. I've already recommended them to the people who bought our house! Great Job and a big THANK YOU to everyone at Two Friends Movers!

Edgar and his team helped me move my stuff in a U-box shipped long distance from another state to an apartment here in San Francisco. Because the U-box arrival date was only tentative I had to reschedule my moving time with them twice. Edgar was very responsive and understanding to my requests and tried his best to make the time work. On the moving day they arrived on time, did the job faster than expected, and were professional about handling stuff. They are also very cheerful, which makes it pleasant to do business with them!

I highly recommend using Albion Moving and Storage! Steve and Joe were great movers. They were on time, quick, and knowledgable about the best way to move / pack our furniture. Our move was particularly difficult given the location (3rd floor apartment and far from storage location) and they were still able to complete the move in their estimated / quoted time with ease. Would definitely use them again in the future!

The owner Scott is very responsive and accommodating. Within a day of my call, I had three movers at my house. I needed a very heavy armoire moved upstairs. The movers were on time, professional, and made sure the armoire and floors were protected from any damage. They wrapped the armoire and put furniture pads down to ensure no damage was done to the hardwood floors. I would definitely use this company again and would highly recommend.

Good movers and very responsive for scheduling. They also accommodated my request for a smaller truck due to parking restrictions at the destination. Although it was a short distance move, it was good to see all furniture remain intact without a scratch. If needed, they can also dispose of unwanted furniture for a small fee. A minor hiccup was that the shelf pins from a book case were lost, but Ikea is now sending a free replacement for those. Would certainly consider Smart Move again in the future.

Drew and his crew arrived in time. I live on the 3rd floor and have an elevator, but of course on the day of the move it was out of order (first time in 5 years). His team was professional and continued the job using the stairs. I truly appreciated the flexibility, hard work and dedication. It made my long distance move less stressful.

My Move did a long distance move for me from California to Boston. I have about a studio's worth of things, and their quote was the lowest by several hundred dollars. Richard was very helpful and responsive in helping me arrange my move, and they picked up my things from California with no problem. The reason I'm rating them four stars is because once my things were picked up from the California location, it was difficult to get updates on the progress of my move. Every time I wanted an update, I had to request one, even though I was told I would receive updates closer to the delivery date (at the time I requested the first update, the drivers were a day away from Massachusetts). Planning the delivery takes coordination, and I would have appreciated more communication towards the end of the process. Otherwise, my things arrived safely.

Movers were 1.5 hours late, and I had to call a few times to verify they were coming. Once they did show up, they were efficient and they worked hard. Only thing is that they demanded 30$ tip for each mover (so extra 90 for 3 movers.) I would recommend them to a friend since they did a very nice job wrapping all furniture and did not break anything or scratch anything.

These movers were fantastic. The handled the furniture with care and their expertise. They followed our instructions and listened to our requests. They were polite and respectful. This was a long distance move from Bay Area to Northern California. The drive is about four hours each way and they arrived only five minutes after us. I used American Choice Van Lines movers about 2 weeks ago for a moderate move and they were so good that I did not even have to lift my fingers. Movers were very accurate. They followed the checklist perfectly and they were doing everything according to my requirements. I also felt that they charged me less than the other movers. They movers were polite and used the best packing materials to pack all the goods to perfection and managed to even deliver it with complete ease. It was a long distance move but the movers stuck to schedule and insured that there was no trouble and that I would not be inconvenienced. It was a very stress free move and well within my budget. So thumbs up to American choice Van Lines and especially Gordon and his team of movers.

Long distance moving can often be very crucial. Some friends suggested me to sell all my stuffs before moving. I would have had to buy everything locally then. Thankfully there is one moving company who specializes in long distance moving. Best moving van lines has been in business for long enough to transport your valuables to pretty much any corner within the USA. I hear they even have special arrangement for people moving to whichever state. The men who work there seemed very enthusiastic and they knew their jobs very well. And I also must add that their quote was the lowest!

Great service. Scheduling my move was easy, Tim provided all necessary information and was courteous and professional throughout the conversation. On the moving day, two movers came on time, they called me before arriving too. It took them 1.5 hours to load my studio apartment and another hour to unload everything at my new apartment. They disassembled and put together my bed and dining table and blanket wrapped ALL of my furniture. Will definitely recommend to a friend.

Ivan Hernandez did an amazing job with my move recently. Ivan was very professional and was very careful with my stuff. He showed up on time with his crew and they moved at lightning speed. All the crew were very professional, careful, kind and respectful. All in all, I hate to move and havn't had to for a long time. I always think about movers slamming my stuff around, BUT not this crew. Ivan and co.did a stand up job and we even had a laugh or two. I hope i don't have to move again, but if I did, or if I was you, I would hire Ivan without a doubt.

Paul and Katelyn managed all of our requirements with timely responses and quality service, at a price far better than the other quotes we received. They even dealt with an unexpected snowstorm without missing their delivery time. We would highly recommend Paul and his company for any long distance move.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
