- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
COLLEGE EDUCATION: Piano Teaching Certificate (1998), Fullerton College, including private piano instruction from my professors. Piano (private) and music studies, California State University, Chico. Ongoing continuing education and training to further develop my playing, repertoire, ability to analyze music (music theory), and knowledge of pedagogy, including the latest findings. I also read widely for broader knowledge and a deeper perception of the great pianists and composers, past and present; music history; and the other arts, such as poetry, painting, and dance.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My father got me started on piano when I was six, and when I became knowledgeable and skillful enough to teach as well, it was natural to follow in his footsteps. But it was actually not until I attended a concert of the Festival of New American Music at CSUS in 1982 and was struck to my core by the realization that classical music is not a “museum piece” but a living art that I knew that music would be a passionate focus for the rest of my life.
