Graham Cook says, "Sam is the best! Ive always had a thin frame as a former basketball player, and no matter what I tried, I struggled to put on weight and build muscle. With Sams guidance, I went from 183 lbs to 195 lbs in about five months, and it was quality muscle. My strength went up in every lift, and I can feel the difference when I play basketball now that the new strength is coming through.Sam gave me clear workout plans, great lifting instruction, and nutrition advice that was simple to follow. I wish I had this kind of training and extra muscle back in college. If youre someone whos been stuck trying to gain size or strength, I cant recommend Sam and Resistance Labs enough."See more

Jordan Smith says, "Been training with Albert for like two years now, starting when he first got certified I cant even believe that, sheesh.I was literally just guessing at every meal before that, bouncing between TikTok and Insta diets like I knew what I was doing, and somehow still gaining weight make it make sense. We meet up, he does this assessment thing and suddenly Im eating like, actually for me. Not random starving rabbit food, not just vibes and hope, but real meals. Im talking like one week its Thai-inspired seafood and Im feeling fancy, next week its ribs, burgers, fries Im like wait whut fries?? I thought I was on a diet And I was never bored, which is insane, because I always got bored and fall off everything.Even my boyfriend started eating my meals with me which is wild cause he usually does his own thing and judges mine a little now hes in it too.I lost 75 pounds and Im still kind of like ??? how did that even happen, because I wasnt stressing about food every second like before. It didnt even feel like dieting, it just happened. And the best part is there was never that shame spiral. Like if I wanted a triple shot caramel macchiato, it wasnt this whole dramatic thing, we just made it work. Hed literally meet me at 6 AM just so I could have it after training. Like hello??Hes more than a coach honestly, hes just in your corner like yeah youre gonna get it, stop overthinking. His advice for cravings is sooo simple its annoying: go for a walk, wait 30 minutes, if you still want it then have it. And somehow hes right. I hate that hes right.Hes still kinda awkward as a trainer but thats part of it, we just laugh mid-workout sometimes. And his dad jokes between sets are actually a survival mechanism at this point. Don't get me started when he starts singing along to some old school song... that guy.The only downside is I had to cut back on caramel macchiatos and those toasted marshmallow strawberry things Im obsessed with dont tell him I said that. Pure sugar bombs. I still have them on heavy lifting days though so Im not suffering completely. But yeah. Im not gonna overcomplicate it.It just worked."See more

Chrissy L. says, "I was looking for help with losing weight- developing a fitness routine and changing my eating habits. My search brought me to Cheryl, and I am blessed to have found her. Talking to Cheryl is like talking to a friend rather than a coach. And she sees the bigger picture- the fact that it’s deeper than just “eating less and moving more” as I’ve been told so many times. It’s not that simple, and she takes the time to get to know you and your specific circumstances to develop a program that is right for you. And she really is like having a helper right there with you, as you can message her anytime and she will always get back with you in a reasonable amount of time. I have been working with Cheryl since September and have made some significant changes to my lifestyle that are taking me in the direction of being my happiest, healthiest self. Thank you, Cheryl!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
