As fairly new homeowners, during the first big rain of the season we found ourselves with a leak in our daughter's bedroom and lots of worries. I quickly requested some quotes from local contractors and was immediately contacted by Stephen. He was quick to schedule a day to come and evaluate repairs and get back out to get repairs done. Our drywall had to be replaced and we also found ourselves with another leak in the kitchen. His follow up was outstanding and we couldn't be happier with the service we received from Stephen, Jerry and their drywall contact. The repairs were completed in a timely manner and very professionally. Thank you again Box Construction!!!

We recently bought an older fixer upper and Jose has helped us with several jobs. He removed popcorn ceiling, texturized, put in new drywall and pot lights, did painting, installed floor tile, and is now tiling my new shower. He has a lot of overall construction experience and brings important knowledge to the job. His work has been quality and looks really nice. His pricing is very competitive and he is responsive and easy to work with. We had a few last minute delays on our end getting materials and he kindly rescheduled several times. We are going to work with him on some outside hardscape and fencing as well. We highly recommend Jose and his team. (I will add some photos soon)

My review os for drywall repair after a complete house repiping. Luis gave me fair pricing with final price being the same as the original. Luis and his crew worked quickly and effeciently, getting the job done fast, and with quality results. I won't really know how the texture truely matches until I repaint my house in a few days, but as far as I can tell now, the results are great.

We used Donaldo and his team to paint interior rooms in our house. We had wallpaper in the kids playroom and Donaldo recommended we plaster and paint over it so we wouldn't damage the drywall. It turned out perfect. We also asked him to install baseboards so he included that in the project. Not only did his team install the baseboards but he was able to pick them up for me since I didn't have a vehicle that would fit the bundle we purchased. We also needed him to fix my bad attempt to blend texture on a new drywall we installed. that also came out perfect. His team was very accommodating to changes we requested, and they also were able to take on the job on short notice. I would absolutely recommend Donaldo for any painting project you have.

We will definitely call Ryan again anytime we need a handyman. His prices are reasonable and we are very pleased we decided to hire him.He installed a new garbage disposal and it is working great. Ryan is knowledgeable about a wide range of home repair needs and replaced an electrical outlet for us as well. We had been having trouble with an outlet on our porch and when I mentioned it to him as he was leaving, he pulled a new one out of his extensive tool kit and fixed it on the spot. I highly recommend him for both the quality of his work and his friendly, positive attitude.

Jason was easy to communicate and work with. He was very responsive and able to commit to an appointment quickly. He arrived on time and completed the work exactly as we discussed for the same price he quoted. I would recommend him for any drywall repair project and would work with him again in the future if his services were required.

Chuy’s came Friday evening to take a look and then bought the materials that needed for the project. Saturday morning from 8:00am to 8:40am he showed up on time, and all things are fixed quickly. I am very impressed with his skills and punctuality. His quote is very reasonable, didn’t overcharge one penny. I am very happy to find him to do my household plumbing fix up. He is down to business and easy to communicate too. Very nice experience.

Abraham is such a great person! He met me when promised and quickly scoped my project and gave me a fair quote. I had flooding and needed drywall, baseboard and re-painting done. Abraham matched the color or paint for my home perfectly. He went out of his way to find the unique baseboard in my home and made my house look great again! I was so impressed with Abraham that I also had him replace my garbage disposal which he also executed perfectly. I had written the check for a $100 more on accident and he followed up with me because he noticed my mistake and wanted to return the cash. He is a great person and talented at any home improvement job!

Menifee Drywall is one of the best vendors I have had the pleasure of using. Not only were they a good value and took the extra time to ensure that all of the requirements were met, Jessie also performed under less-than-ideal conditions as the house was being renovated. I certainly recommend this vendor.

Amazing find!!!! Ranferis is a great painter who takes pride in his work and cares about getting the job done right. He made sure the colors we picked would look exactly the way we wanted (painted multiple swatches around the house had to go back get more swatches multiple times). He also has a team who helped us finish other projects (stucco repair, termite damage repair and cement work). Everything I needed he had a very qualified person coming in the following day fixing it for a very fair price. He found some potential issues with our roof and just wanted us to be aware of the situation, not trying to sell us on another job. Just took pictures and told us that it is not urgent that I could wait a year or 2 especially because it wont be a rainy year but that if we need, again he has someone that could get the job done. He is the most honest contractor and we couldn’t be happier with the end results. We have 3 dogs and he was always very careful to not let them out when going in and out of the yard, I felt very comfortable having him working on the house while we were at work. Highly recommend and we will use him whenever we can.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
