Out of all the Termite companies that came to inspect my house HALO was the best. While others walked through the house in 5 minutes HALO took their time and looked at everything. They also took the time to explain everything in detail and answered all my questions. I couldn't have had a better experience.

I want to get Termite inspection for house which is in Escrow process. Initially we have miscommunication/understanding about the Scheduling. After we schedule one more time everything went smooth. Gilbert is very good at looking all the areas in the house especially which is not easily accessible. Also he discovered the termite which previous termite company could not able. He (First time Home Buyer) provided me small small tip which is very useful. Note -: I pay him for inspection even though i received free inspection offer from other company. It is worth of spending the money rather chasing free stuff.

Outstanding experience! First, I contacted Manual looking for a pest control company; only to find out later in the week, I actually needed a termite inspection. So I had to call and let Manual know my priorities had changed and I would not need him. Manual remained very professional; he thanked me and still sent me my bid for the job along with his business card. I thought to myself what a professional young man! The following week, the termite inspector gave me a bid that had very minimal damage at a reasonable cost to repair. Therefore, I had the work completed. And... sent a email and asked Manual if he would like to come out and complete a one time spray inside and out we could then discuss a annual contract. I have signed his contract; all because he displayed a professional image of his company and himself! Looking forward to working with you Manual!

Guillermo Castro of Castro Termite & Pest Control came out within the next day after being contacted for a Re-finance Termite Inspection. He performed a thorough inspection of my home including a comprehensive survey of the attic during a very warm afternoon. I was very impressed with his knowledge of termite infestation and how to locate any damage. Fortunately my home did not have any evidence of termites. After the completion of the inspection I mentioned that I had a problem with rodents running around between my house and a neighbor's. He came out the next day on his day off to seal up any entry points to my home and lay traps. His excellent customer service, pleasant demeanor and dedication to his craft have earned my highest marks for a professional. I highly recommend him for any pest problem you may have!

Very professional in the follow-up termite inspection report which I received by email just a few hours after the inspection. All details and options for services that we discussed were spelled out clearly. A scheduled date for services has been set up but not yet completed so I can't comment on that.

Jeremy is very personable and knowledgable. He's always happy to explain issues with clients, in fact he's gone out of his way to meet with my clients to help them with any issues they may not understand. Bullseye is quick with their reports and very reasonable in comparison with other termite companies. The thing about Bullseye Termite/Jeremy is that I trust him completely. I've seen some shady termite companies and reports in my 30 real estate career. I never worry about that with Jeremy.

Mariners Pest Control was very prompt in quoting my job. I was unhappy with my previous Pest Control provider, and was looking to make a change. Mariners Pest Control provides a better service than those bigger companies by thoroughly inspecting and treating the outer perimeter of the property, and the technician also took the time to make sure everything was A-OK inside my home as well. We've had a problem with spiders over the last 6 months, and a member of my household formed an abscess from a spider bite that in my opinion would NOT have happened had I been with Mariners Pest Control – lesson learned. I'm so happy I found Mariners Pest Control. The customer service experience overall has been fantastic, and I feel they give a much more personal service than what I was receiving before with a larger company. I really feel like my spider problem is being taken seriously and handled appropriately now, along with preventing the usual spring and summer ant issues. Thank you Nathan and the Mariners Pest Control team!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

What are the signs of termites in your home?

When you see signs of termites in your home, call a trusted pest control professional as soon as possible to handle the situation. Termites feed on wood, meaning they eat through the wood that makes up the frame, floors and other components of your house. Most people don’t know they have termites until they discover the damage done, because termites remain hidden underground or inside the wood they are eating. Keep on the lookout for these signs of termites:

  • Water bubbles in your interior or exterior paint: If you poke at what look like paint bubbles and find termite droppings inside, it’s a sign of termite infestation.
  • Frass: This is a fancy term for termite poop. Keep your eyes peeled for what look like six-sided salt and pepper droppings.
  • Mud tubes: Subterranean termites move between their earth home and your house by building mud tunnels. Mud tubes under or along the side of your house or foundation are a sure sign of a termite infestation.
  • Wings or swarming near your home: As a new colony is looking for a home, they fly (swarm), then shed their wings and burrow into nearby wood.
  • Softening of wood or hollowed-out wood: Termites don’t like paint, lacquer varnish or other wood finishes, so they’ll eat inside the wood and leave the exterior finish like a shell.

How much does it cost for a pest control service?

Whether you need to get rid of bugs or rodents, pest removal professionals can be lifesaving when you have an infestation. Pest control prices will vary based on what type of pest is being removed. The national pest control price range is $80-$130, although prices can be much higher for tasks like wildlife removal (raccoons, bobcats, etc.), which might start at $250 and exceed $500, depending on the animal and the trapping measures required.

The cost of eliminating a termite colony ranges on average from $240 to $400, but these costs can increase greatly if the whole house is infested. The average cost to kill cockroaches is between $80 and $130, while bedbug extermination ranges from $320 to $400 on average. The main factors that will affect your pest control price are the type of pest, the extent of the infestation, the accessibility of the infested areas, and the type of treatment required.
