Brad Zangwill and staff are by far the most amazing photographers ever--would Never have photography done with anyone else. This project was our wedding. Of course we wanted everything perfect--and it was. Brad shows such enthusiasm, creativity, and sensitivity to what we wanted. He suggested things I didn't even think to do. He was so very easy to get a hold of--always responding back to me--Same Day!! He was always on time. The quality of the pictures were outstanding, all at reasonable cost, and he is just one easy man to work with. Because he kept his cost down, I was able to include other things--like a little interview of us that he showed at the wedding before the ceremony started. People really loved that! No need to look further--he is your man!! I am happy to recommend him and would be happy to speak with anyone individually as well...just call. 909-240-9211--kathy

Joe and Austin were an absolute pleasure to work with on our project in Indy. I cannot thank them enough for their super speedy responses. We asked for several things that typical photographers would not turn around in a short period. And they did not flinch when we made these requests. I would hire them again in an instant if we have another event in Indy.

ROF Industries headed up by Nicole Pittman-Staab and Chris Staab are videographers/photographers who created a wonderful presentation of an aerobatic jet flight I participated in over Southern California. They were able to set up numerous cameras, recorded the event from visually interesting angles, provided editing, musical scoring and conducted interviews with the participants in a documentary style video. The quality of the work was outstanding, ahead of schedule, and the crew at ROF are self motivated. They were always checking up on things and asking questions to make the product the best it could be for me. Everything went perfectly and better than I imagined. I'm very proud of their work and they made me feel and look like a star. They are very easy to work with, friendly and just plain nice! I am planning another doozy of a project for them next year and I wouldn't consider anyone else but them to pull it off.

I needed a combination of event photographs and video of a stage show to capture a special event. I found the perfect match when I hired Blue Child Entertainment to do the job. Landi and her team were extremely professional, knowledgably, friendly, and easy to work with. I received nothing but stellar feedback from my guest regarding the professionalism and friendliness of Landi and her team. And I could not be more pleased than I am with the final product. The photographs are wonderful and it is clear on the video that a lot of time and care was given in the editing process. I would highly recommend Blue Child Entertainment to anyone with photography and video needs – Charlie Gruber

For 12 years now Magnolia Street Productions has delivered more than we asked for, and gotten us our video quickly. Tim has been recording at our school for years and always brings his full professional video system with cameras and microphones. In the school shows he is also open to teaching the students and allows some our best to learn how to operate the cameras and switcher. The groups get to hear and see a good recording of themselves, the next day which becomes a fantastic learning tool. We use the DVD's as a school band fundraiser and it has helped us buy instruments and include students on our annual trip to Disneyland. Our school choir and drill team have also used Magnolia Street Productions to document their events. We have all been extremely pleased with the service, and have booked in in advance for our spring show.

On the single most important day of my Life to date, Jordan captured the moments that we, my fiance and I, will treasure for the rest of our days. Not only was the occasion a 30th birthday party, but also the proposal! That's right - I popped the question and she said yes. Jordan captured it all. If you are searching for a photographer and videographer that is responsive, honest, and produces quality, please reach out to Jordan. By the way; he shoots with Sony. Therefore, you can only expect the best quality photos and video, with crisp audio. Looking forward future opportunities, Jordan. Thank you!

Merve has been absolutely incredible to work with. Not only was she on time, professional, kind, and gracious during our entire actual filming process, she has done nothing short of incredible editing for our promo video. We are super picky, and were concerned about looking good on camera, but Merve knew exactly the lighting to use with us, and was super receptive to all of our requests. The video is amazing and we will absolutely be working with her for all of our videos moving forward. Totally exceeded all of my expectations.

Lafayette was professional - probably the most important qualification you are looking for when you are inviting someone into your home to photograph a special birthday. He got all the right shots at the right time and everyone was photographed so all were able to enjoy the party via his photos

We had an outstanding experience with DH Media Productions. They have professional sound and video equipment, so the sound quality was excellent and even captured the voices of our most quiet speakers. They are extremely professional and effective at communication--I enjoyed working with them, and our guests commented at how friendly they were. There editing techniques are great--they put those little bells and whistles into your video that only professionals would think of and be able to do (chapters in your DVD, artistic editing, and so on). I always got timely replies to my emails, and David kept me abreast of their progress. You can trust your experience to DH Media Productions!

I had Chelsae photograph my wedding in Sept. Weddings can be so stressful but Chelsae made me feel so comfortable and at ease, the photos are beautiful. Chelsae got them back to me in a timely manner, our family is so impressed with the quality and professionalism Chelsae produces. We also used her photo booth company Split Second Photo Booth for our wedding that Chelsae and her husband own. It was so great and easy to get these 2 things taken care of for our wedding in one step. I highly recommend both of these businesses.

Touch and his team at Servo Motion Studios are absolutely amazing. I contracted with them for a few different commercials for my product, the Kid'z Katch!. They produced a Kickstarter version, as well as a few different shorter commercials. Touch is a truly talented visionary. On our first meeting, he conducted a thorough consultation and gathered as much information about the product and what I was looking for. He not only made sure I got exactly what I was looking for, but he used his amazing talent and expertise and produced and directed videos far beyond my expectations. I LITERALLY cried when he presented the final proofs to me. His vision and talent presented our product the way I had dreamed it would be and much, much more. We shot the videos at a few locations including at his impressive studios. Touch and his crew were extremely professional, knowledgeable, easy to work with, and honestly, fun. We had a good time shooting the videos. It was one of the best experiences I've had so far in business. I would recommend Servo Motion Studios to anyone looking to shoot professional and high quality videos. Check out the finished products at www.kidzkatch.com/videos

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
