Wow! Ricardo was amazing. Was always very quick to respond and answer any question I might have. Showed up right on time and was able to pack everything up and deliver it to my new apartment in less time than initially quoted. The two movers disassembled and reassembled all my furniture as well and not a single item was scratched, broken, or lost at the end. Do yourself a favor and hire Larro's moving services! They will take all the stress out of moving!

This was my first time booking any sort of professional services through Thumbtack. Once I booked MEAA, I received a confirmation email confirming my booking time. I did get a separate email from Edgar to call to confirm, however, I did not do so the day of booking as I assumed the booking confirmation email was sufficient. Luckily, I called Edgar the day before our scheduled move to confirm and found out that he did not receive our booking via Thumbtack. Long story short, a phone call to him on the day of booking would've been best so he can confirm our move and schedule it accordingly. Instead, MEAA already had two jobs booked and they were still committed to making our move happen. Unfortunately, one of the jobs they were handling before us took a turn for the worse which delayed our scheduled move by 8 hours. We had waited around the entire day and had multiple delays after another. Movers ended up coming and finishing the job in 6 hours. Although the situation was not ideal at all, the quality of work by our movers was great. Two movers moved our one bedroom apt rather quick and did not waste any time. Only drawback was that this ended up being a very late evening move after a very big job prior and so they were tired and my husband did end up helping them quite a bit to speed up the process. Overall, not the ideal booking experience but satisfied with the service and their price is pretty competitive. Just make sure to call Edgar to confirm your booking!

How often does anyone ever BRAG about how good their movers were!? I mean, normally it's a difficult experience at best, an exceedingly stressful time... and generally filled with so much upheaval, loose ends and countless details. The concept itself explains the least grounding exercise you've ever been through. You are literally in the process of MOVING your existence. Even if its 1 continent.. or 1 mile away. Now imagine an experience where the folks executing this ridiculous exercise ARE grounded, are unbelievably skilled in what they do, exude an incredible confidence in moving your Mount Rushmore -- rock by rock, as it is!... and do it all with no bull----, no whining... and an Old World work ethic you almost never find anymore! THOSE folks are Steven Ridgway and Albion Moving and Storage! Steven and Albion moved my ridiculousness 2 weeks ago... and I truly have not stopped talking about what an amazing job they did. So much so, that people I have spoke to have already hired them for their move!! I'm in my 50s, with 5 decades of "stuff" (as the famous George Carlin routine goes!) with 2 teenage boys, 2 dogs and a girlfriend (in a separate location) that Albion moved into another (bigger) home in the same city. I take a lot of pride in my designer furnishings and did my best researching and choosing the right company for the job. I knew 10 minutes after meeting Steven at our initial move assessment, that he was the guy. I come from the Midwest (Chicago) and over the years I've further developed the darn good BS Meter I was born with. I truly felt nothing but Green Lights from Steven from the very start -- and it stayed that way the entire process! I had a complicated Close of Escrow... and Steven stayed right with me through all the stops and starts. And when it was finally time to go -- Steven and Albion Moving were right there, right with me... right on time. And they moved my existence with incredible skill, expediency and (like I said) confidently. Once the process started, there was no negotiating, no complaining, no hand wringing... just men getting the job... DONE!! I can't put it any simpler. Moving sucks. The entire process sucks. Steven and the Albion guys were my Shining Beacon in the heat of that battle. And I am unconditionally appreciative for that. Stop looking for the right guys for your next move. They're right HERE! Albion Moving and Storage.

This is the best moving company in the Bay area. They are AWESOME! Really cannot say enough about the service, expertise, and care. Having moved three years in a row now, my husband and I consider ourselves to be experienced movers. This is our second time using Smart Move, and we will not use anyone else. Compared to other moving companies here are some notable differences that you can expect when you hire Smart Move: -Wardrobe Boxes (SO key for easily moving your closet! They bring the wardrobe boxes on the day of your move and load your hangers onto the rod. Simple, easy, and not something all moving companies provide. -Speed (These guys are SO efficient!) -Shrink Wrap (Free, they wrapped all my furniture in it and blankets) -Cleanliness and Care (Really cannot say enough about the care that the crew takes in all of your belongings. I've never felt like I need to say a word about fragile items or boxes, because the team takes such pride!) -Friendliness (Need I say more? The teams have always been so friendly and earnestly desire to get everything situated EXACTLY where you want it!) I highly recommend Smart Move ! You won't be disappointed!

The quality of the movers were phenomenal and the price was really fair. Movers were helpful yet efficient and everything was delivered from CA to CO without issue. My only complaint is that the communication for the delivery of my shipment was not good however, when I issued a complaint the issue was resolved and I was given a discount. My Move truly cares about their customers!

This was the first time using Thumbtack and MP Movers delivered far beyond what I expected. They were professional and had all of the tools needed to complete the job. Communication was great and they were proactive in making sure that everyone was on the same page. I specially liked that they were prepared to take payment through credit card. I would absolutely hire MP Movers again.

MUVER did an excellent job with our reasonably priced office move, needed to relocate an sub location to our main facility and on short notice. Robert and his coworkers were professional, paid close attention to detail, and followed through with quick and thorough answers to every one of my questions. The move was accomplished as promised with absolutely zero complications and damages. Robert took the stress out of what could have been a stressful experience for myself and a few unlucky staff. I would highly recommend MUVER, Muving & Delivery service to anyone, thank you for the help!

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

Jay and his associate, I forgot the name, were great. I will definitely recommend and use them again next year. They were quick and efficient with moving my belongings. There were a couple blemishes but I did not expect everything to be perfect. Their supervisor called me after the move was completed and provided a discount on my next move for the minor issues. I appreciate feeling valued as a customer. The movers worked their butts off. Again, I will recommend and use again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
