Marty S. says, "I've been training with Dan Fine for just over 5 years now, and he's the ONLY reason I've actually got anywhere. I'd done the same pointless gym routines everyone does and gained basically nothing, so when my office moved down the road from North Hollywood Gold's I decided to join and watch the trainers for a couple of months. You know how gyms are - pick the wrong trainer and you're stuck with him/her unless you want the uncomfortable "break-up" chat and then you have to see them every time you go (it's happened to me). I decided on Dan because he was clearly genuinely focused on his clients, which most trainers are not, and whoever I asked about him said he was the real deal. I picked well. He's a big dude, but don't let that fool you - he's a totally cool guy that tailors the workout to what you want out of it. His other clients are all ages and abilities. Be prepared to really do it, but that's why we're there, right? My body started changing because we hit it hard, and properly, and he taught me how to eat to gain. I had no idea food really is at least 50% of the process. Anyway, 5 years later I get a lot of compliments on my body now, which is awesome and weird for me since I was always the skinny guy, and so have gained a lot of confidence from that. It's been a life-changer, as they say. I guess the most important thing for me is that we always have a blast when we train - it makes it so much easier for me to go since I'm not a real motivated guy. I still see many people from 5 years ago who literally haven't changed, coz they don't work out correctly and certainly don't eat correctly. Do yourself a favor and get a trainer that knows what they're talking about. Obviously I would recommend Dan, since IMHO he's the best (as evidence of this, he trains many peeps for competition with many first place finishes, so he knows his s**t). Just do me a favor and DO NOT take my timeslot... "See more

Tom R. says, "I've been working with Jason virtually and online for a few months and he's the best trainer I've ever had. What makes Jason different is he doesnโ€™t just repeat the same workouts or cherry pick the usual workouts you could find in any fitness app. Every session is different and builds on what we did before. This jeeps things fresh and hits different muscle groups properly. Jason checks in regularly to see how I'm feeling and adjusts the program based on my feedback. He doesn't just go through the motions like most trainers. When I injured my shoulder, Jason switched up the routine with specific stretching and mobility work that helped me heal without losing muscle. He really knows his stuff when it comes to injuries and recovery. Once I was traveling internationally for a few weeks with no gym access. Jason designed a complete bodyweight routine that kept me on track. That kind of flexibility is exactly what I needed to stick with the program and not lose momentum, which I totally would have done if I went at it alone with an app. Jason also helps with nutrition (calories and macros). Working with someone who gets both the training and diet sides makes a huge difference. Working with Jason virtually and online has been super convenient and effective. He actually cares about results and knows what he's doing. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a customized health program from a qualified professional."See more

Will J. says, "Training with Adam has been transformative. I've worked out my entire life but have hit a bit of a plateau in my later years. I didn't just need a trainer I needed a change in my overall thinking and routine and found this with Adam. He really understands the body from a clinical perspective. The greatest takeaway was the gains I made just using regular weights in his personal gym and not needing the big gym equipment. It definitely opened my eyes to what i can accomplish at home when I'm not able to make the gym. The routines he puts together were also something I really needed to learn; and are typically done within an hours time. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into but ended up enjoying the sessions that were challenging but nothing over the top that you feel you can't handle. We also got into things like food and pre-workout strategy which has helped me in terms of flexibility etc. No matter your age if you're looking for a better and smarter way to meet your goals i highly recommend Adam."See more

Deedee S. says, "I am so fortunate to have found Anne. I was 53 and active but my knees had begun to hurt so badly that I struggled to get in and out of bed, seats, and cars. They ached at night and kept me from sleeping. After 2 sets of cortizone shots and weeks of prescribed physical therapy I interviewed trainers to help me with therapy and strengthening. I chose Anne because she listened. She was interested in helping me take care of my body. She works with women my age. Within weeks, I was able to balance, stretch, and lift noticably more! Within more weeks, I no longer even NOTICED my knees. I've now zoomed with Anne twice a week/:30 min sessions for an entire year. I feel stronger, and I am stronger (Anne even notices that my arms are cut;). I look forward to my sessions with Anne. We start each session by tuning in to my body and my needs. I am grateful for Anne, and I highly recommend her guidance and training."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If youโ€™re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps โ€” intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard โ€” anywhere thereโ€™s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heartโ€™s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically donโ€™t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
