I have received Reiki from multiple healers, and I can tell you Julia is the real deal. My first session wit her was excellent, and she identified some problem areas which have been causing me pain for years. I will definitely be returning for more treatment. More importantly, I'm hopeful that she may be able to help me heal some areas that have been 'untreatable' by numerous other professionals including doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors and other healers. Five Stars from me.

Dr. Lin is very professional and very experienced in her field. I had CTS (Carpel Tunnel Syndrome) from my repetitive work last year. As soon as I knew I got CTS, I found Dr.Lin, and went to treatment for about twice a week for 2 months. After 2 weeks of treatment, the tingling and the numbness of my wrist/fingers that were annoying me whole time during the day at work went away. After the 3 months of the threapy, it is completely cured and even 10 months after then, I don't have any issue or sign of getting back CTS as of now. Currently I'm going for my sore neck and the experience is great as last time. Dr. Lin always listens to ur problem and understand what kind of treatment exactly you need. If you want to try acupuncture for the first time or looking for great Eastern Medicine Doctor, I highly recommend Dr. Lin.

Life-changing. I've had chronic migraines for as long as I can remember, and with Aaron's help, they have decreased almost completely. Aaron focuses on holistic nutrition, which is such a welcome change from most doctors and pharmacists I have spoken to about the same issue, and truly listens to his patients. With a simple vitamin supplement and small dietary change, my condition has improved incredibly. His recommendations are simple, spot-on, and effective. Aaron also followed up multiple times, which is extremely appreciated.

I found myself in intensive care once again, on oxygen with double pneumonia that wasn't responding to medication when Gosia, looking like the angel she is, showed up at my bedside. Her heartfelt compassion and healing hands pulled from me a deep-seated grief of which I'd not been aware. I quietly fell asleep. The next day my doctor came by to shake my hand and whisper in my ear "We thought we were loosing you..." and then exclaimed aloud "Look! All your tests are normal! It's a miracle." Whether your situation is life threatening or just a matter of bliss, Gosia is an Earth-Angel you don't want to miss.

Therapy never quite made a difference for me in the past, and believe me I really wanted it to. Samantha’s approach is so completely different and more personal then anything I experienced before that it has profoundly impacted my life in a way I always wished therapy would have. Unlike others, she helped me understand my life as a whole - and helped me develop a sense of self-compassion I never before realized would be so instrumental in my self-acceptance and self-growth. I learned to appreciate what it really means to be a growing human-being with Samantha and I learned to step back and see the whole picture of my life instead of just chopped up and seperate events. Some are good at making you “think” they understand you, but with Samantha one “feels” it. Best of all, she feels like a friend that really relates and not a detached doctor taking suspicious notes that is always at an arms length. I only wish I had met her sooner.

I have been seeing Dr. Tze now for over a year, he has helped me through general digestion problems that I have had since I was a child and the after affects of radiation from my breast cancer treatment. I no longer go to a standard medical doctor (they have never been able to help me anyway). He has helped me recover from extreme fatigue, radiation cough and other health issues. His treatments and approach are holistic, treating the body as a whole, rather than a sum of its parts. He is attentive, thoughtful, mindful and caring. I would strongly recommend Dr. Tze as your first alternative to caring for your health and well being.

Ning brings remarkable expertise to her therapy. Her knowledge of muscles, joints and tissue far exceeds that of any therapist (or doctor) I have worked with previously, and she continues to study and extend her understanding of both anatomy and healing techniques. She explains everything she is doing and the effect she is working to achieve, which gives me great confidence. And the results speak for themselves. I can typically feel the relief immediately after a session, sometimes the difference has been tremendous. She is a uniquely qualified therapist whom I would recommend to anyone.

Shambhavi is a very dedicated Reiki, Kriya yoga and Ayurveda practitioner. On a number of occasions I hired her to teach a class for my group which was quite a success. Her knowledge of both subjects and personal involvement is superb. She has a talent for leading groups and deliver her talks in a very subtle manner. One could feel her subtle connection. She also gave me a live session of Reiki followed by 21 day distant sessions. Shambhavi gets my highest recommendations whether it is for Kriya yoga group or personal sessions, Ayurvedic knowledge, or Reiki personal sessions or classes. She is highly skilled, very intuitive, and has true healing abilities.

If you are considering Rebirthing, I would highly recommend Joanna. She is a good listener, understanding and non-judgmental. One rarely comes across such loving gentle people. From the 1st session to the 10th one, I had the most wonderful transformation. I see in myself a new person. I was struggling with emotional eating, and a physical illness which doctors don’t have answers for. Now the symptoms have disappeared and I lost weight as well. I feel more empowered, in balance, self-motivated and emotionally in control. Joanna has taught me how to love myself. It will be the best thing you do for yourself

Allison Stein is incredibly talented. I originally hired her for doula services, but ended up receiving acupuncture from her as well. Although I had a great pregnancy, I had passed my “guess date”, which concerned my doctor, who in turn, recommended that I induce labor. Induction was not in my birth plan, so I called Allison, who suggested that I try acupuncture. I did and the same day she worked on me, I went into labor! Not only was Allison a great acupuncturist, but I had no idea how valuable her doula services would be until I actually went into labor. She came over to my house in the middle of the night, traveled to the hospital and stayed with me until I delivered my baby. My labor was long and difficult – an intense few days that threw me curves I wasn’t expecting. Through it all, Allison never wavered. She completely understood and respected my birth plan and if it weren’t for her support, I probably would have made other choices – ones that didn’t fit into my original plan. Her experience in a hospital setting and her ability to communicate well with the staff was a not only a bonus, but truly invaluable. She was a great mediator between the doctors and myself, alleviating any additional stress and allowing me to concentrate on giving birth. I highly recommend Allison Stein. She is an amazing doula, acupuncturist and one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

It was my first time trying “Reiki Body work”. I usually get massage but this was a unique experience. Pros: I kinda got the best of both worlds. Reiki and massage. My therapist was also a doctor!!!!! Very knowledgeable, and talented. Not pushy with products or selling things. Cons: I booked 1 hour session but took 90 min. No extra charge though, just got me behind in my schedule.

i was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at age 50 and had gained about 20 pounds. My doctors wanted me to take steroids and instead i found Dan and he did lymph drainage massage that relieved bloating and swelling joints naturally and very soon I was virtually pain free and able to walk and now I go to him regularly as maintenance and instead of expensive spas. His jade rolling on my face has added contour and lift so easily and knowing the process is so healthy as well makes it even nicer. He is amazing and professional and just really intuitive with injuries and or pain. It has now been three years and I have not needed one ounce of medication. Thanks Dan

    About

Naturopathic medicine is a system of health care that focuses on the use of natural therapeutics to promote health and address the root causes of illness and imbalance, rather than covering up symptoms. This distinctive field of medicine has a primary focus on the prevention of chronic disease to allow the healing power of nature transform the body and mind towards greater health and vitality. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) seek to restore and maintain optimum health in their patients by emphasizing nature's inherent self-healing processes via a combination of conventional and holistic fields of medicine, which in turn leads to an integrative and individualized, therapeutic approach. In her office, Dr. Galina sees a wide range of health concerns ranging from acute to chronic. She individualizes her approach for each patient and utilizes a holistic approach while enabling the patient to play an active role in their care. The path to healing is achieved by a combination of supplementation, nutrition, counseling and lifestyle recommendations to enhance the mind-body connection. Although Dr. Galina is trained in general medicine and cares for people of all ages and for many conditions, her special interests include functional medicine, weight loss, hormones, women's health, holistic dermatology and pediatrics and autism.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
