My wife and I not only hired David as the DJ for our wedding reception but also to provide the up-lighting in the ballroom. This was just a few weeks ago and I can still remember the music and amber lights! He was highly recommended by my cousin whom also happened to be one of my groomsmen. I first met with David during one of his gigs around the area. We chit chatted for a bit and he gave a good first impression. Later, my wife and I met with him to see what he could do for us. Unlike other DJ's, David is mellow but very professional and you know just by talking to him that he has a passion for music. He was attentive to his emails/phone calls and he answered all our questions and concerns. He also recommended us some songs to play during our reception (entourage entrance, father daughter dance, etc.) and that was awesome. That evening on the day-of, David and his crew came through and provided absolutely stunning music and MCing. I wanted electro type beats and my wife wanted hiphop and they played it all. People were having a blast dancing the night away, especially the kids! We also had our own karaoke machine in house and it worked flawlessly with their equipment. Anyways, I strongly recommend David for your DJ at your event. It was a pleasure to work with him and my wife and I couldn't ask for more.

Wow & wow! We had an in-store event on Saturday, June 21st and Greg played an amazing set. I just threw some bands/genres at him and he interpreted it perfectly! He even gauged the remixes based on the groups of people coming in and out of the store...brilliant! I would definitely have him back for our next event or holiday party. Thanks, Greg!

Martan has been doing a wonderful job teaching my teenage son jazz piano for the past few years. Martan has a proven approach starting at the basics and advancing to very sophisticated techniques at a pace the student can handle. The techniques my son is learning are also directly applicable to playing jazz on other instruments such as the saxophone that my son also plays in his school band.

I had a HUGE 50th celebration just this past Saturday, 11/19/16, at The GlassHouse in downtown San Jose, CA, and I had hired The HitMen to perform live for my guests. First and foremost, they were a "hit" with my guests as everyone enjoyed all the songs they performed. They were so on-point! One of my guests has a performing band of his own, and he gave such glowing comments about the HitMen! The songs were so classic and so dance-able that some guests just would not sit down and take a break! ;-) But aside from their actual performance, it was great to work with Kelly Aronica who handles the scheduling for The HitMen. Kelly was extremely accommodating (i.e. I wanted to play my own playlist music on my iPod as the background music as people arrived) and worked well with my Event Planner and the folks at the venue. He was very professional; yet exuded a friendly warmth about him. It truly made the whole process of planning this huge event so much less stressful . . . and actually, quite enjoyable! :-) I wholeheartedly, and enthusiastically, will recommend The HitMen to my friends, and as the Head of HR for my company, I will keep them in mind for events for my corporate contacts and HR network. Thank you for being a part of my 50th celebration and for making it so memorable for my family and friends! Myra Tallerico mtallerico@gmail.com

Chick Jagger rocks and so do The Falling Rocks! If you love the Stones you can't not love this band. As a plus, they play a great mix of other tunes you will undoubtedly enjoy and the drummer truly rocks (as do the other band members). Go see what you've been missing!

Isaac and the Haze is a fantastic dance band! They were really the perfect entertainment for last two parties of about 60 people each. We hired them because some of our co-workers had heard them play at the Crow's Nest in Santa Cruz. The guys arrived about an hour early to set up their sound equipment and were ready to play right on time. Isaac, the lead singer, plays a keytar and electric cello. He has a great voice, with a big range of emotion, and really engaged the audience in between songs. The lead and back-up vocals were great and consistently held up against the big beat of the band. Other band members played lead guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. I was worried that their 5-member band would overpower the relatively small venue, but the sound levels were perfect, and they didn’t blast us to the back of the room. There were 20 or more people dancing all the time, including young kids and a grandma in her 90's. We really liked the numbers they performed, which were mostly covers of R&B music from the 2000's, like Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic, DNCE’s Cake By The Ocean, Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jaggar, and works by Justin Timberlake. You could tell the band members were all having a good time too and enjoyed what they were doing. Great music! Great entertainment!

Just wanted to thank Busta Entertainment for our event on 2/13/2011. All our guests were happy and non stop dancing, which was great to see. They really rocked!!! Busta Entertainment was very accommodating. They played a variety of music and took requests from the quests. Had lots of positive feedback about the music that was played that night.

From 1965 to 1973, I performed and took on the leadership with my rock band called Yellow Brick Road, located in the San Francisco Bay Area. At that time, my band enjoyed performing alongside some well-known groups in the San Francisco Bay Area. During 1974, after many years of performing with Yellow Brick Road, I moved to South San Jose. At that time, I decided to continue my passion for music and form a band with my own family and felt that it was only appropriate to call my new band "The Family." While forming a family band, My Family band performed all around the Bay Area for many years. That included the following: - The Policeman - Ball in the late 1970 While Diane Feinstein was a guest speaker on that special night, that was pretty cool.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

        • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
        • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
        • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
