Introduction: Learn how to play the guitar for real! Hello, my name is Erik Kluiber, and I have played guitar for both Metal Blade Records recording artist Gypsyhawk and Earache Records recording artist White Wizzard. I've been teaching for 20 years. I have taught at the School of Rock, Axis Music Academy, Privately, and still teach at Guitar Center Studios in Woodland Hills, Ca from time to time. My structured guitar lessons, specialize in the rock and metal genres. The main goal is to get students to be confident and capable to transfer what they hear in their heads onto the fingerboard. We split an hour lesson into 2 sections. The first half focuses on scales, theory, and technique. While the second half of the lesson is learning a complete song note for note that will push your capabilities. We dissect the note choice, techniques, and song writing concepts within each song. My lessons are very hands on. I believe that being able to play a song from start to finish is key. Unfortunately, most guitar players only learn a few riffs here and there and don't maximize their potential. Simplicity is the key concept to making this happen. Scales and theory should not be a complicated mathematical nightmare. You will be surprised on how easy to it is to apply fundamental theoretical concepts to real guitar playing! I am a graduate of Atlanta Institute of Music class of 1996. Check out my teaching website on youtube for references, videos and examples of me playing different music styles.

Erik is a skillful and knowledgeable guitarist, and a very friendly teacher. His lessons are well balanced mix of music theory, practices, and songs suitable to your current skill level(off course, songs that you'd like to learn). He's also an exprienced song writer and performer. His current band is Gypsyhawk, which is signed by Metal Blade Records, and he's also the former member of White Wizard, and Overloaded. All of them are very good heavy metal bands, each with their own styles. There are plenty of song demos and videos of his bands on the internet. If you are looking for lessons of heavy metal, hard rock, or classic rock, then he is an excellent teacher for you!

Erik will teach you any song or solo you want to learn and will not need any notice before the lesson. He will listen to the solo right infront of you and transcribe note-for-note on paper and then teach it to you making it simple and breaking it down into sections. The best way to improve your guitar is to learn the solos of your favorite artists. I've had several teachers since I dicided to take up guitar again and he is bar none the best! Not just because he's able to articulate and give you very structured lessons with hand written notes that will eliminate the guess work later, he's also the best because he's a very nice guy and you won't feel awkward to go for a lick and mess up! Even though the guy you're playing with (Erik) is 10 times better then you! Quick side note, I accepted a long time ago that would never learn the modes (greek scale system for soloing to different styles of music), every other teacher (some who didn't know them and some who did) could not explain it and felt like I would have to learn a 100 scales so I ignored them. Erik taught me them and I can solo in any mode and in any key with ease, it took about 8 weeks, lessons once a week and during those lessons I still walked away with a complete solo to learn each time. Taking lessons is not just about investing in yourself and in your playing. You need to find a great teacher, Erik is the man!

After dead-ending trying to learn guitar from YouTube posts, I found Erik through a referral. In the first lesson Erik assessed my skill level and started getting my fundamentals in place—he helped me understand the foundation I needed to achieve my goals. Even though I only spend an hour a week with Erik, he knows exactly what I am working on and where I should be after a week working on that lesson plan. The most important thing for me has been knowing that the lessons are tailored to my learning ability. Erik has a knack for choosing the right song for a week’s lessons that offers a challenge, and is fun to play. He assigns songs appropriate to my skill level and expects me to meet it, which is the hallmark of a skilled, engaged teacher. Erik’s work ethic is rock-solid (pun intended) and he will coax the best out of your skills.

Erik has been a great guitar teacher - he teaches you the perfect amount of the stuff you need to learn, and the stuff you want to learn. Great for lead, rhythm, and anything rock-related. Extremely knowledgable and a good dude; I've been taking lessons from him for about a month and a half, and my chops have already improved tremendously. Highly recommended.

Eirk is a really down-to-earth dude, and super easy to get along with. His lessons are easy to digest and you will notice distinct improvement in your skills and knowledge in just a few lessons. The fact that you're learning songs you actually like, as well as the theory behind them makes it feel much less like "work".
