Let me start off by saying that Carlos is AMAZING! He is not only very professional, he really knows his stuff and is really friendly and personable! Carlos came to our home to talk to us about what he can do for our party, showed us some light effects and we went over the music we would like to have at our party (Halloween Birthday Party). Carlos arrived early the day of the party and set up everything and the lights he set up were really a hit with the guests! His sound system and screen were so cool and it was fun being able to see the videos as the music played. Carlos kept the party going and interacted with the guests and got them to dance and get involved. I would HIGHLY recommend Carlos for any gathering you may have and we will forever use him for all our parties! Thank you Carlos for all your hard work and being a part of our party!

I planned a surprise engagement for my gf and hired joe last minute. I read his reviews and his package pricing was absolutely unbeatable. Unfortunately we had a last minute change of venue due to weather. Joe was able to change venues and plans without skipping a beat. Because it was a surprise he was excellent about staying below the radar and she never had a clue. He was on time, friendly, dressed appropriately, and absolutely amazing. We are waiting on our final video and pictures which I'm sure is going to turn out amazing! I would hire joe again without a second thought. We will most likely use joe for our wedding too! I honestly couldn't have asked for any better.

Wow! What a pleasure it’s been working with ROF! The entire staff has been such a breath of fresh air. There’s honestly a HUGE reason I keep going back and back to them for all my video content, photography, and editing. ROF exudes nothing but greatness. The old saying goes, “if you show up on time —- you’re late” Well ROF seriously applies this to all areas of their company and professionalism. They go above and beyond any of my expectations I have ever had on any on my projects with them. They deliver at the NEXT LEVEL. Thank you ROF Industries Management and crew. Can’t wait to get our next project underway!!!

He contacted me about a video he wanted to do. Then he made it happen. From beginning to end he took control of the shoot and made the whole thing an experience. He gave me dates and times and he showed up ready to work. Nothing was rushed and he made me feel a sense of perfection on his part. Glad to have worked Jordan and look forward to future endeavors! Thanks!

Rating: 10/10 Job: Wedding Photos What went well: Orrett is a skilled photographer--and his photos are of good quality. But that's not what makes him great for events, since there are plenty others who can take good photos. What sets Orrett apart is his clear vision of the finished product. He knows what he wants the end product to look like, and he orchestrated each shot accordingly. Trust me, you need a photographer who actually has an artistic vision, so you don't need to tell him what to do. I do have 1 suggestion for Orrett. In the future, he should request 1 helper from the Bride/Groom in wedding events to stand by him the whole time during the family photo-shoot, and have that helper fix the Bridal gown throughout the process. This will both save time and make sure her gown looks tip-top. I came to this conclusion after viewing a few of our post-ceremony family/friends photos. I didn't dock off any points for this--because I didn't think of this myself at the time, and hindsight 20/20. But for Orrett, who will do this for many weddings to come, it may be good to start thinking about that. I'm still waiting on my video, but only 1.5 month has passed, so I have no complaint about the leadtime. Once I have viewed the video...I'll post a video-based review.

I've worked with Palo on several photography and videography projects, but the highlight was the video he made for my sister's wedding. He was on time, professional, and gracious for the entire day, which was so helpful amid the stress of a wedding. Palo didn't miss a thing, and the footage from the wedding is perfect. From tiny details on the dress and rings, to gorgeous aerial shots of the venue, and sweet moments throughout the evening, the final video is the perfect recap of an awesome day. The video is set to music perfectly, with snippets of vows which were an unexpected and amazing surprise. Everyone in my family LOVES the video, especially the bride and groom. If you haven't considered videography for your wedding, do it--and book Palo. You will not be disappointed!

Just got my video from the wedding. And I can't say enough. Mark was on time showed up and did an amazing job and brought another person with him to help. Seriously worth every penny. He made me a teaser video, a video about 30 to 40 mins long and give me all the raw footage. Mark you did so great we are so happy and I can't believe you got me all this in less then 3 weeks. Dennis and I were up last night for a few hours and watched everything. I'm so glad we found you chose you. Seriously felt like we were reliving the whole wedding again. Your price was great and you were so great with everyone. I would recommend you over and over again to everyone that is looking for a videographer. Thank you so much again for everything.

My wife and I hired Laura and Erica at The Vision Field to be the videographers at our wedding and it ended up being one of the best decisions we made throughout our entire lengthy wedding planning process. First of all, Laura and Erica were an absolute pleasure to work with. They were always extremely quick to respond to all of our questions whether they be related to the type of equipment they would be using or the type of videography we wanted them to capture. During our planning meeting with them over the phone they also knew how to ask us all the right questions in order to make sure they would provide us with exactly the type of service we were expecting. And they were always happy and full of energy, which somehow made us even more excited for the big day as it approached. When the wedding day came they arrived early and were fully prepared with all of their equipment. Our ceremony was at a Catholic church, our reception was in the backyard of a private residence, and we stopped for wedding party photos at a third location in between, and throughout all of this movement Laura and Erica were always able to keep up with the group without us having to worry about them. What actually made us most happy with The Vision Field, in fact, is how they managed to capture every single important moment of our wedding day without ever distracting or getting in the way of us or any of our guests. We hardly noticed that they were there at all, and yet they still ended up delivering incredible footage that perfectly captured every aspect of our ceremony and reception. Whenever my wife and I relive our wedding memories by watching and listening to all the high-quality video and audio, we feel as if we're still there, and in this way Laura and Erica have made our wedding last forever. They're not only videographers and photographers but also musicians and audio engineers, and they therefore know exactly how to record and deliver a perfect product package. We certainly made the right choice by asking The Vision Field to be there with us on our big day and we're thrilled with all that they have done for us. They are good people and experienced professionals, and we fully recommend that you choose to work with them too!

Commercial and Event Shoot - we hired Ron to do the event shoot for our new facility opening and do a few external images, he delivered 10 folds, he brought his drone and was able to fly it around our facility to capture stunning video and still images. We then hired Ron the second time around to take commercial photographs of our products and equipment and once again has delivered amazing results! I recommend Ron for any photography and videography needs!

Anthony did a terrific job with a series of short fresh videos for our website. He filmed one meeting and worked with film we provided from two other meetings. He also did my New professional headshot photo which I love. Anthony understands our energetic brand and added a number of creative touches to bring that energy into the videos. We appreciate his work and will continue to use his services. We will also happily recommend him to others!

Gabe is amazing! We got started late on a company project creating new images and video content for a website over-haul and Gabe delivered on every request bigger and better than we could have ever imagined. Gabe is extremely professional and patient (lots of personalities on set) and he understood and felt our vision and made the entire day fun. Gabe will exceed your expectations! Great time recording with Keelan. He was always quick to respond and was open to experimenting when my band recorded.. with no judgment, too - however much our musical tastes may differ. Also he plays drums, the guitar, and last I checked was learning the bass, so it’s good to have someone around who really know what effort it takes to do what we do. Again, Thanks Keelan for all the work on both albums. Later days man!!

I’m going to be honest, I didn’t want to hire Rolling Tide at the beginning. In fact I didn’t want to hire any videographer. Our wedding was so expensive all ready and I didn’t want to pay someone for a video we would watch once in our lives. But my now wife convinced me, and I’m so glad she did! We’ve watched our highlight video at least 20 times since we got married last year. Dan and his team are incredible at putting so much art into something so simple. They were also extremely professional during the entire process from planning, to do the day of the wedding, and up to delivery! Thanks so much guys!

With never working with a videographer before, I was definitely nervous to shoot a video. I did not know what to expect but had seen Solful's work and was immediately intrigued. When hearing about my lack of experience in shooting videos, Solful Studios were quick to ensure that I felt comfortable in front of a camera with their constant words of encouragement and positivity. Unquestionably, the entire shoot was an experience I will never forget, as it was filled with laughter and fun. I was very pleased with Solful's work ethic and am proud to say that the video exceeded all of my expectations.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
