We had a "spa" afternoon at our house. Matt add asked a colleague to join him to perform 8 massages total, ranging from 45-90 minutes each. Everybody enjoyed their experience and both therapists were extremely professional and courteous.

I had my first session with Lisa yesterday, and I will DEFINITELY be having her back! Over the years, I have had many different massage therapists, so I can tell right away if someone knows what they are doing--and Lisa certainly does! I have a couple of different physical issues which cause me a great deal of discomfort, and she knew exactly what to do to alleviate my pain. She always made sure I was comfortable, and that the amount of pressure she was using was effective. I had never had a massage therapist come to my home, so wasn't sure what to expect. Lisa immediately made me feel at ease with her warm personality, and after asking about any of my physical issues, preferences, etc. she explained the process to me, stepped out while I got comfortable and then put relaxing music on, and it was just like being in a spa-only better!! This isn't just a job to Lisa-she loves being able to help people feel better! She is very good at what she does, and I felt better as soon as she started working on me! (And felt even better when I woke up this morning!) Her prices are very reasonable, and the convenience of having her come to my home was a huge plus for me! There's nothing worse than getting a great massage, and then getting in your car and running errands on your way home instead of enjoying the benefits of the massage! I strongly encourage anyone who is looking for an excellent massage therapy experience in the comfort of their own home to call Lisa!! I will definitely be having her back on a regular basis! If you could give more than 5 stars for a review-Lisa would get 10 from me!

I went to John's house which was a little weird for me, but my worry was unfounded. John was friendly and the message room was similar to those at any spa. He is very professional and definitely can do the deep tissue massage which my achy back needs regularly. I will be a return customer for sure. Thanks John!

Jai is spectacular! I met Jai at a function at USC where he is attending a masters of business program for veterans. What an incredible person! He’s accomplishing so much and still I would say that his greatest gift is his ability to provide his therapy. He knows exactly what to focus on and his hands are magic! He truly has a gift. You really feel like his priority, whatever you need he will focus on. I saw unmatched professionalism, his sheets and materials were perfectly clean and pressed, he set up the room to make it feel like a spa getaway, and he excludes a feeling of trust and appreciation. I had been having back issues that affected my sleep. I woke up this morning feeling well rested, and had not moved a muscle, I felt great! Can’t wait for our next session.

Shellsea is simply put: Amazing. She is my go to massage therapist when I need a rejuvenating, healing massage. She has helped me with injuries to migraines. She is great at deep tissue especially but gives a wonderfully relaxing massage as well. You can go to her or she can come to you, which is very convenient. I highly recommended her!

Modest and magical. The atmosphere was calm and inviting, there was light music playing, and she had candles and aromatherapy diffusers that smelled amazing. I had come because I was experiencing terrible pain in my left shoulder. I was treated to a little energy-work session before the massage. I hadn't even told her where my pain was, and as she moved her hands around me, I felt a cool, tingling sensation around my left shoulder blade. I don't have a lot of experience with energy work (and I've always been a little skeptical about that sort of thing) so I was surprised to feel or 'sense' anything. The massage was wonderful. I had initially requested she uses Deep Tissue, which I've had bad experiences with in the past. But I'd heard from a friend that she uses a technique that's deep and firm, but not rigorous or painful. I was skeptical at first, but wow, they were right! After explaining the benefits, she also used different techniques and modalities to address my pain, including something called 'cross fiber' and Tui-Na. She really took the time to work on those knots and spots of tension. Usually, it takes me around 15 minutes to settle into bed, but I think I was asleep before my head even hit the pillow that night! She contacted me the next day to ask how I was feeling. After confessing that I felt a bit more tired than usual, she informed me that I might feel a little run-down for a couple of days as toxins left my body, and reminded me to rest and hydrate. This is much different from your typical spa or resort massage. Philolus really takes the time to cater to your individual needs She's an incredible massage therapist, her work is fantastic, and she made me feel very cared for. I can't wait to come back!

Princess encouraged me to push through when I wanted to give up. She knew I had a tendency to stop just before I reached the finish line and her motivating words helped me to keep going. I would highly recommend Princess to anyone looking for a trainer. Even now, when I workout, I am still reminded of her and how much her encouraging words got me through man workouts

A spa day is the perfect way to relax and reconnect with your girlfriends. Of course, going out to a spa is fun, but most likely your group will get split up during different treatments, and you'll also have to tolerate the presence of other customers. There will always be those patrons who are inclined to shush your group because they long for a quiet spa experience. The best fix: bring the spa to you! Serve The Goddess comes to you, so that you can relax in the privacy of your home where the surroundings are familiar and comforting. Imagine, there will be no parking, no drive home, no traffic, and no headaches. It is just pure bliss. Helen Hodgson, a licensed massage therapist, founded Serve The Goddess Mobile Spa Services in 2000. While working for years in spas and some of the world’s finest, she met busy clients like you who were frustrated that they were spending too much time driving to and from the spa. She learned from years of watching her mother, a registered nurse and mother of five, that as caretakers, we women, are often the last ones to nurture ourselves! After Helen's own experience of exhaustion that led to days spent recovering in bed, Serve The Goddess was born. She became an advocate for empowering women to practice extreme self-care and self-love by inspiring them to access their inner goddess through reverence, rejuvenation, relaxation, and the healing power of touch. "Honoring yourself doesn’t mean feeding your ego or inflating your importance. It simply means taking care of your heart and soul." -- Laurie Sue Brockway Let us help you restore ease, grace, and balance in your life. Serve The Goddess Mobile Spa Services offers pure indulgence and exquisite pampering with massage and a wide selection of spa treatments to share with your friends in the comfort of your home, office or special holiday party event. We have been creating spa parties since 2000! What Serve The Goddess Mobile Spa Services provides for you are the following: * Save you precious time as we come to you * Experienced and licensed professionals * An extensive spa services menu featuring a wide selection of customized treatments * Memorable ways to celebrate milestone events such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries or the birth of a child * Bond with family and friends while sharing the spa experience in the same room * Be pampered like a goddess by licensed professionals in the comfort of your own home * We make all the arrangements -- you just pick the day, time, and services desired and place * Relax, rejuvenate, and rejoice Experience counts. Helen has more than twenty-five years of experience as a registered nurse, nutritionist, personal fitness trainer, and massage therapist. You know you are in good hands when she draws on her vast experience within the medical, health, and wellness industries. She goes above and beyond to tailor your massage and spa treatment. Helen handpicks like-minded massage and spa technicians to join her team. Helen has the ability to turn your home into a sacred haven by burning aromatherapy candles and incense, and everything you’d expect at a spa, even music and robes. Treatments are from professional and experienced massage therapists and spa technicians, and there is no rush in between treatments. She suggests that you bring a passage or poem to read to the guest of honor and share with your friends prior to the commencement of treatments. This works best if you gather in a circle Helen calls the goddess meditation circle, and then take turns to read your special piece. This is, of course, optional!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a facial?

A facial is a restorative cosmetic treatment for the skin on your face. Facials can be performed by a licensed cosmetician, esthetician, dermatologist or other qualified provider. Spas,  medi-spas and other skin care centers offer facials. Most offer different types of facials that address the most pressing skin care needs such aging, dryness, sagging, pigmentation, etc.

The national average cost for a facial is $60-$80. More complex facials, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peel, will cost more, as will services provided by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. The products used can also affect the cost of your facial; high-end creams and serums will likely result in a higher cost. For most non-medical facials, the practitioner will perform a skin assessment, determining your skin type and learning about your lifestyle, diet and skin care concerns. Then the facialist will cleanse and exfoliate the skin, extract any blackheads and clear clogged pores, give a facial massage, apply a treatment mask and then apply moisturizers. Typically facials are relaxing and restorative, leaving your skin clear and dewy.

        What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

        • Relieving tension headaches
        • Decreasing back pain
        • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
        • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
        • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

        Which facial is best?

The wide variety of names, methods, techniques and technologies for facials can be confusing. The best facial for you depends on your skin care needs. If you’re aging and want to address wrinkles and sun spots, you may want a chemical peel, while for acne you may want a deep pore cleansing treatment. Consulting with a licensed esthetician, cosmetologist or dermatologist will help guide your choice. Skin care professionals specialize in assessing your skin and determining which course of treatment will help you achieve your goals. Here is a basic overview of the best facials for different outcomes:

        • Reduce wrinkles: A chemical peel can help stimulate skin cell turnover, creating a fresh new layer thanks to the salicylic or glycolic acids. It’s important to work with an experienced professional when getting a chemical peel so you choose the right level for your skin type.
        • Prevent acne: Enzyme facials or LED facials help battle acne breakouts.
        • Smooth skin tone: Microdermabrasion facials are done using a small tool that polishes off your dead skin cells to reveal a fresh layer of skin underneath.
        • Relax and rejuvenate: A traditional European facial often features warm steamed towels, a facial massage, deep skin cleansing and exfoliation, extractions (as desired), face masks, and applications of serums and moisturizers to leave your skin refreshed and you feeling great.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.

What is included in a facial?

There are many types of facials you can receive based on your skincare goals. Pricing for facials will vary based on the skin care provider you see and your geographic location. Facials provided in a medi-spa by a medical doctor or nurse, or at an upscale day spa, will typically have higher average prices, as will facials in more expensive parts of the country.

        • European facial: Typically lasts 60-90 minutes. Includes steaming (often with warmed towels), cleansing and examination of the skin, exfoliation, extraction of blackheads and clearing clogged pores, application of masks specific to the skin’s need (anti-aging, etc.), application of serums and moisturizers, and massage.
        • Microdermabrasion: 30-90 minutes. Microdermabrasion sloughs off the dead skin on the surface level, revealing brighter skin underneath. The practitioner uses a small, motorized tool that polishes your skin with a diamond tip or stream of very fine crystals. Usually the treatment is preceded by a thorough cleansing. After the microdermabrasion, the practitioner cleans away any remaining dead skin, and then applies a hydrating mask or moisturizers.
        • Back facial: About 60 minutes. Includes a thorough cleansing, exfoliation, extraction of blackheads and clearing of clogged pores, an acne-fighting mask, and mini-massage to keep the skin on the back clear and acne-free.
        • Gentleman’s facial: 50-75 minutes. Treats areas that most affect men. Includes cleansing, assessment of skin type, exfoliation and extraction to address razor burn or ingrown facial hairs, a hydrating mask, and a facial massage followed with moisturizer.
        • Jessner’s peel: 30 minutes. This is a light chemical peel that removes the surface layer of the skin to create a smoother look and feel.
          • More powerful peels are also available, typically at a higher cost.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
