I've used safe moving twice and both times they have been amazing. This most recent time they moved my upstairs apartment to an upstairs townhouse (sorry for all the stairs guys!!!). Unlike most moving companies, they don't charge to wrap or blanket your stuff, or if you're moving up/down stairs. It's just one hourly rate - and it's an affordable hourly rate! The guys were on time, friendly, fast, and efficient! I would definitely recommend them to friends and family!

Frank and his team were GREAT! All the guys on his crew were super fast, and fun (I mean, moving, come on...) they had such an upbeat attitude even after a LONG day of loading. I would recommend these guys to anyone. So glad my friend told me about Thumbtack and I found them! Got two quotes from well known moving companies that were double or more what Frank charged. A+

Ruben and his team did an excellent job moving my items with care. His team arrived before there scheduled time and was ready to work. My condo is on the third floor and Smooth Movin'Ruben had no problem taking the stairs on. This move was a eight hour job which the team wanted to work until the job was finished but I had to make them take a break and eat something. I will refer Smooth Movin'Ruben to any one that ask me about a moving company.

One of the absolute best moving companies we have ever worked with. Always on time and super-hard working, very reasonably priced. Postive attitudes and humor. We felt very comfortable with them right away and like old friends the second day. They really went yhe extra mile for us, not only bringing in boxes and furniture but also putting furniture together and helping place it. We highly recommend this family company. We will definitely call on them again.

I have all great things to say about Drew, Jimmy and Lewis. They were scheduled to move me at 1:00pm but they called me at 11:30am to see if they could come earlier. Yippee!!! I was thrilled. The guys were great. They were careful with my belongings... I didn't have any precious antiques or anything but i appreciate how careful they were. Jimmy took my bed apart and wrapped it in plastic in a matter of minutes. The truck was loaded in record time. We arrived at my new address and the unloading was quick and professional. I am still unpacking and my belongings arrived intact with no damages. The cost was fair and affordable. I'm telling all my friends about this company if you must choose a moving company please choose MOVING HELP BAY AREA.

Excellent experience. Having used a number of moving companies over the past decade, CWM is exemplary. My reasons are simple: 1. Transparent and Affordable- I genuinely appreciated the all-inclusive rate (labor+supplies+gas) that helped me to predict my overall spend for moving. 2. Professional Service- The movers handled our belongings- particularly the wall art and 60" TV- with more care than even I would if I were able to lift those fat hogs. :) 3. A Small Business that Pushes the Limit: by comparison to other moving companies, CWM not only nips at the heels of larger competitors, but surpasses them with high quality service, affordability, and professionalism. It would be nonsense to move without considering CWM.

We just needed a couple big items moved, were moving within Sacramento and did most of it ourselves, had our own moving truck, just needed a couple extra hands. Easy Pro responded asap, showed up within the hour, helped us load and unload the heavy items, everything went smoothly. Would definitely work with them again.

Do not hesitate to call G B Construction for gutter cleaning and replacement and leaf guards. They are prompt, quick, thorough, friendly and professional. Their charges are reasonable, and they do not upsell. I understand that they also do tile and wood floors, painting and household moving. I will be using them again and again.

Needed a cat door put in my wall to outside of house and just moving in my tools where packed. Got hold of Mike and he came out the next day. I showed him what I wanted and he did the job in an hour and a half. I'm really happy (no more cat box smell) and so are my wife and daughter. Thanks again Mike. Will call you again if I need anything else I don't have time or knowledge for a project.

I found Nick online and hired him based on his great online reviews. I got even better service than I expected. I booked at nearly the last minute, and Nick was still able to send two fantastic guys (Ryan and Ryan from Sacramento). Many things went against us... my moving truck was late (but Nick's guys were not), we ended up doing the move late on a Friday night, in the dark, cold, pouring rain. Ryan & Ryan had such great attitudes the whole time, kept busy helping me with other things while we waited for the truck; they hustled to get things unloaded when the truck finally arrived; they were so reliable and pleasant. Outstanding. Oh, and my house has white carpeting. Not a stain or mud mark on it. How did they accomplish that??

M&M Movers is an excellent company. I would definitely use them again, and definitely recommend them to anyone who is moving. I moved from East Bay to the Phoenix area. I had 6 different moving companies provide cost estimates and explain to me how they will handle my household goods. I have many pieces of furniture I purchase from all over the world and to me they are priceless. JR is the only one who convinced me that he would treat my furniture with the care I believe it deserves - and he followed through. And another plus, is that the price he quoted was the price I paid. All other companies gave me estimates that could not be guaranteed. JR delivered my household goods within 3 days of pickup - he could have delivered sooner but my house was not ready for a quicker delivery. All other companies told me that it would be 7-10 days before they would deliver - this was not acceptable. The only "complaint" I have is that at delivery, they didn't fully set up my adjustable bed; they didn't connect the power cord to the underside of the platform. I called JR and he said that one of his folks would return to complete the setup. The guy never showed up. The platform for the bed is too heavy for me to move, but a neighbor helped. That's the only thing that I could say didn't go well. There was no damage to anything. This is the best move I've ever had and I've moved a lot! I surely recommend M&M Movers.

They were great! No banging of furniture on walls. Moved things very carefully and went above and beyond for me. Only suggestion I have us is carry tools and useful resources you may need during a move. Otherwise, job well done!

Love this company! James is a true professional. He let me know by text every step of the way of our upcoming move and how soon the movers would be there. In today's world, you rarely find the professional conduct, ethics and follow-through like James' company. His workers were friendly, fast and efficient and nothing was damaged. I will use this company again and recommend them highly.

Demtro and his team were exceptional. Demto confirmed with me before the move they arrived right on time and called and gave me their pre arrival schedule. This is a top quality moving company. When Demtro and his team arrived, we agreed on a time schedule and they finished the move right on time. I was amazed! I even used them again, for another job. I recommend this moving company highly and I will use them again. Thank you, YOU GUYS WERE WONDERFUL!

Paul and Katelyn managed all of our requirements with timely responses and quality service, at a price far better than the other quotes we received. They even dealt with an unexpected snowstorm without missing their delivery time. We would highly recommend Paul and his company for any long distance move.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
