They came out immediately after I found bed bugs in my roommate's bed. I was horrified & embarrassed, paranoid that my entire condo was infested. While I have a tendency to overreact, the cool person that they sent out was exactly what I needed. He had a great sense of humor, gave me a direct & exact quote, was honest & extremely quick & efficient. I would highly recommend.

George was such a nice guy and answered all my questions about my bed bugs. It was clear that he was giving me advice to save me money, and his was the lowest rate by far out of all the places I researched. He also came the next day, on a Saturday morning, which was so important to me or anyone with a new bed bug problem. I'll use him for a follow up, cannot wait for my new little roommates to die.

Howard with Five Star Pest control was incredibly efficient and genuinely kind. After a bed bug issue in my apartment became all too clear, I found Howard on Thumbtack and he extensively walked me through the process of preparation for fumigation. Howard stopped by at my home for the initial visit and I saw significant improvement in decline of bugs. He phoned me several time to check in on me and inquire about the status of my dilemma. After two weeks, he came by again for a follow-up and it's now been over 20 days with NO bed bugs! Thanks to Howard and Five Star Pest Control not only for a successful fumigation but for exceptional service!! I can't stress enough how grateful I am for the service during this stressful experience. Just call him, and you'll be able to tell in the friendly tone of his voice and conversation that you're dealing with quality. Thanks again!

Bed bugs are Satan's children. You don't want to deal with them. I worked with Chad, and he helped my wife and I get through it. He was polite, understanding, helpful and de-stressing from start to finish. He arranged Vikane fumigation of our belongings, and inspected our cars and bedroom for a fair price. He did more for us than he had to so that we'd have some peace of mind. That last word is important. Forget the mattress, bed bugs get into your mind. Someone friendly like Chad helps you reclaim your sanity.

We had a problem with bed bugs. We tried to take care of them ourselves. But the problem got worse! We hired a local company, and the company was only here for an hour. That same night. The bedbugs were still around! I swear we just pissed them off. I couldn't sleep. My family members were no longer coming over and I knew they felt uncomfortable with me going to their houses. Anyways. The original company would not want to come back to retreat. They said they offer NO guarantee on their bedbug treatments! I was fed up with that company. So I immediately found Sam and his team from a quick google search. Boy was I glad I found them. The technicians that came out really took their time doing a full bed bug inspection and treatment. I didn't know bed bugs could climb up walls or into your wall electrical outlets. The guys opened up an electrical outlet and showed me a bed bug nest! I was grossed out....but I was also happy because these guys knew what they were doing and were getting to the source of my problem. They also offer a long warranty to give me peace of mind. I have been sleeping like a baby since they've done the bedbug treatment. I highly recommend this company.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

How much does it cost for a pest control service?

Whether you need to get rid of bugs or rodents, pest removal professionals can be lifesaving when you have an infestation. Pest control prices will vary based on what type of pest is being removed. The national pest control price range is $80-$130, although prices can be much higher for tasks like wildlife removal (raccoons, bobcats, etc.), which might start at $250 and exceed $500, depending on the animal and the trapping measures required.

The cost of eliminating a termite colony ranges on average from $240 to $400, but these costs can increase greatly if the whole house is infested. The average cost to kill cockroaches is between $80 and $130, while bedbug extermination ranges from $320 to $400 on average. The main factors that will affect your pest control price are the type of pest, the extent of the infestation, the accessibility of the infested areas, and the type of treatment required.
