Cello Lessons (for adults)
01-31-16 I have miraculously discovered Mr. Rainer Crosett through Thumbtack. I am an older beginning music student and came to Rainer with basic music reading skills and frustrated with prior cello instructional experience. I say it is a miracle because I have had two professional cello teachers who were unable to relate to my specific individual needs and specific limitations. I became comfortable with Rainer who so skillfully, patiently, and enthusiastically in his teaching ability is able to provide clear demonstration and instruction of methodology and technique. He also clearly instructs how to incorporate those techniques that enable the most beautiful and vibrant sound that can only be appreciated when the cello is played correctly. I am very fortunate to have found Mr. Crosett as my cello teacher. He not only understands and works around my present musical and physical limitations as a senior but also has a multitude of technical teaching techniques to aid in my learning and appreciation of the cello. Now with Rainer, I am again invigorated and excited to learn to play the cello. Robert W.Feb 3, 2016Verified
Rainer is an extremely talented and thoughtful musician, and his teaching reflects his extensive experience in classical cello. He is consistently patient with his students' growth and pays particular attention to details that further nurture a student's love and respect for music. His dedication to his students inspires them to be creative and encourages them to practice daily. If you are interested in learning how to play the cello, I cannot recommend anyone more than Rainer.Sep 23, 2015
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My standard 1-hour lesson rate is $70. I prefer offering hour lessons because I believe that most students need at least that amount of instruction time per week in order to improve.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I offer a free trial lesson for all interested students. We'll start by discussing your level of experience and musical interests and goals. If you have any repertoire prepared, I will listen to about 5-10 minutes of it to get a sense of your personality, your strengths, and your areas for improvement both as a musician and as a cellist. I'll then work with you to identify how you can be more productive in your individual practice and what we'll need to focus on in our lessons together. My goal is to help you discover and enrich your unique musical voice and express it through the cello in the most convincing way possible.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I hold a Master of Music with honors in Cello Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and I'm currently working toward a Graduate Certificate in Cello Performance from the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. I have performed in many of the major concert halls around the world, alongside classical musicians who are at the top of the field. I have extensive private teaching experience, primarily in Boston, where I lived prior to moving to Los Angeles in Fall 2015.
