Introduction: I've played music my whole life and am happy to say that my passion has become my career! I have toured extensively throughout the US and Canada over the last 10 years, most notably with The Wind and The Wave (Island Records), Dagny (Republic Records), and Air Dubai (Hopeless Records). I have recorded with Grammy-Winning producers and have had songs featured on MTV, VH1, ESPN, TNT, and in major motion pictures. In terms of my educational background, I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2012 where I majored in Jazz Studies. In my teaching, I take into account the individuality of every student. I adapt my teaching style based on the students' needs and what they want to achieve as a musician. My experience in music is broad enough for me to be able to apply real-world knowledge to students' interest in any genre. I work at the student's pace and believe that learning an instrument should be enjoyable! Testimonials: "Nick is a great drum teacher, and he gave my band awesome performance tips." - Alden, age 11 "Nick is a knowledgeable and skilled drummer, and we are glad that his passion for drums was passed onto our son." - Andi F. "Not only is Nick super professional, he's super helpful: he's connected me to a couple of other great drum teachers, and is always checking in to see how my son is progressing." - Kirsten K.

Nick has been great to work with for my 14 year old son. He is responsive, easy to work with when it comes to scheduling, and is knowledgeable in his craft (drumming). My son is drumming a lot more at home, even in his spare time because he wants to be ready for the next lesson. Very positive experience.

Details: 14 - 17 years old • 0 - 2 yrs of formal training • Understands note durations and rests • Traditional drum kit • Rock • Yes, the student already has drums • 60 minutes • At the pro’s location

Nick is an extremely professional instructor. He is extremely well organized, responsive, and willing to be flexible when work/personal emergencies occur. He is a really cool guy and I have thoroughly enjoyed my weekly lessons with him. He has a clear passion for the drums, music, and for teaching. As an instructor he is incredibly beginner friendly and spends quality time planning lessons that will get me working on different techniques but also quickly making progress towards playing songs I want to play.

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No formal training; some self-taught experience • Can't read music • Traditional drum kit • Rock • Yes, the student already has drums • 60 minutes • At the pro’s location • Remotely (phone or internet) • My home, venue, etc.

I enjoy our lesson a lot! Although I take my lessons remotely and I’m an absolute beginner, nick has been a great teacher. Very satisfied!

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I offer a free trial lesson with no strings attached, so that we can make sure we're a good fit for each other without any risk. Beyond that, I have been teaching long enough that it's easy for me to identify a student's learning style and I can adapt my teaching style to fit that. Finding unique ways to explain concepts so it will make sense to an individual is one of my favorite aspects about teaching!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been playing drums since I was nine years old, starting in school bands. I played in marching band for four years in high school and was the section leader of the drumline for two years. In college, I studied jazz and played in big bands and jazz combos in addition to learning orchestral percussion such as marimba, vibraphone, timpani, etc. While in college, I formed a pop/hip-hop band of my own that began selling out theaters and touring in my junior year. Since college, I have gained a tremendous amount of real-world experience in touring and performing with several major label acts.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

All types! I've taught students from ages 6-65 and every experience level. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or trying to get your skills to a professional level, I can help!
