Are you tired of working with "natural" teachers, professors, and tutors who look at you in amazement when you have difficulty understanding what comes to them with no effort, but can't even begin to explain how or why they understand it? I am the person for you! A little bit about myself: I am a current PhD student of music at the University of Southern California. I am a recent graduate of Indiana University (2006) with a BM (Bachelor of Music) in piano performance and a BS (Bachelor of Science) in mathematics. I have been studying classical piano since the age of 3, and began to take music theory classes at 7. I have a full and complete understanding of all aspects of music theory, from basic notation and scales to 20th century atonal music analysis. I have been fascinated by music ever since I can remember. By contrast, as a high school senior, I enrolled in AB calculus. While all other subjects came to me with ease and grace, I struggled with this and wound up doing very poorly in the class. I became enthralled with the subject sheerly because of its difficulty, and made it my personal mission to learn as much about math as I possibly could. Unlike many other tutors you may meet, I truly understand what it means to struggle with math, and this allows me to help you go from confusion to mastery in a way that no "natural" ever could. You will also benefit from my rigorous undergraduate coursework on music education and pedagogy, which I equally apply to both music theory and mathematics.
