Introduction: I am #1 on Yelp with 90 5 star reviews. Check out my profile under Lloyd Moss!! Because I've been teaching for 40 years and have taught all ages and know how to tailor my lesson accordingly. Whether you want to learn folk, blues, classical, rock, reggae, punk or any other style, I focus on what you want to learn, not what I think you might like. The satisfaction of getting a student to learn their favorite song no matter how difficulty it may be for them. In this part of my life, I have an extreme amount of patience because I love what I do.

I took guitar lessons from Lloyd for about 3 years and unfortunately had to stop when I left for college.  Lloyd is not only and incredibly talented musician, he is also a phenomenal teacher - which you don't see often.  One of my favorite parts of his lessons was showing him a song I liked and wanted to learn and having him figure out the entire chord and note progression in seconds. If I ever did not understand a certain technique, Lloyd would go out of his way to explain it multiple ways until I understood.  He not only taught me how to read music, he taught me the fundamental basics of music so I could break down pieces on my and begin to write my own.  We also had jam sessions at the end of each lesson so I could learn basic chords while having fun. I never found myself getting frustrated if I didn't get something right away, he would walk me through it until I felt like a pro.

I took guitar lessons for several years as a kid. I always kept up with it as a hobby, but without proper instruction I developed some bad habits of technique and forgot much of what I ever knew of theory, scales, positions, all of it. Recently I decided I wanted to improve and more fully understand the guitar. I knew that it would require seeking proper instruction once again, and I was lucky to find Lloyd. My sister, a tremendous piano player, started taking beginner's guitar lessons from Lloyd and she recommended him to me. Lloyd is profoundly knowledgeable about music and music theory. He seems to be able to pick up any instrument and take to it. For guitar, he has been particularly helpful in providing what I was looking for: breaking down the technique to fix my bad habits, tighten up my playing, and provide the background of theory, while encouraging a more complete understanding of the entire neck. I know that I've already improved, and Lloyd has given me plenty of material to practice and continue to get better. As much of a stickler as he is for proper technique and musicality above all else, I also appreciate that he is flexible in what material we discuss during lessons. He will guide you in any direction you wish to go, because as he says, every little thing you learn comes in handy. If you are beginning a new instrument or want to start learning again properly, I recommend Lloyd.

Lloyd has been a wonderful teacher for me. I'm 59, and decided this was the year I would learn to play the guitar, which I've long wanted to do but never tried. The last time I played a musical instrument was the piano in elementary school. I.e. I'm almost the definition of a late-in-the-game beginner. Lloyd is smart, kind, and loves music (and it shows). Most of all, Lloyd is patient but also always on the lookout for any sign of progress; he gets excited when he realizes the person he's teaching is self-motivated. I have a full-time job, of course, but I also have managed to find 5-10 minutes/day, often a couple of times per day like the beginning and end of each day, for small amounts of consistent practice; and Lloyd has noticed what I'm getting (and what I'm not yet getting) and stepped up his expectations and homework for me at the perfect pace. The result is that I can see, hear, and feel progress every week. Learning guitar from Lloyd has been pure fun. I feel like I got very lucky finding him.

I've been involved in music and the stage since childhood but in all that time I've never picked up or studied an instrument. And all the while I wished I'd had. This all changed, as things often do, with the arrival of my children, A couple years ago my wife was struggling to get our kids picked up from school and schlepped to their music classes in a school in Santa Monica. My daughter was taking guitar and my son was taking piano. The stress of running across town against the clock was too much. So we took it upon ourselves to find a teacher who could make house calls. Through a connection we found Lloyd. He was available and could teach all sorts of lessons. Guitar, piano, and bass guitar. Lloyd is a teacher and composer and actually he is quite a good businessman. It is his policy to offer two free lessons to an adult in the house in which he is giving the child's lessons. He had me hooked after the first lesson. He immediately had me playing a few chords and then strewn them together and I was playing Jimi Hendrix' Hey Joe! Another thing I like about Lloyd is that he will integrate the student's interests into the lessons so if you have some songs you want to play he will be able to teach them to you. We live in Santa Monica but he also has students in Pacific Palisades, West LA, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. Lloyd has an easy way about him and has been very trustworthy. I recommend him for children as well as adult lessons.

Lloyd is a very good teacher. I have played guitar for quite a few years, but this was my first lesson, so my goal was to hone a couple of weak points in my technique, specifically, picking lead guitar. Lloyd began by quickly and efficiently assessing my skill level on the guitar and discussing the limitations I wanted to overcome. He then gave me some very specific tools for improving my picking and my lead-playing/improvising. As an example, he was able to immediately tune in to my style of bending notes and improve my skill level in that area by offering several specific suggestions regarding the finger mechanics of my bends, which notes in a scale lend themselves best to bending, and how to think about bending in the context of a musical phrase. He demonstrated these tips for me, playing both improvised licks and examples of phrases from songs I recognized. He then had me play some things back to him - both individual bends for technique and some improvising for phrasing. Throughout the lesson, Lloyd was friendly and encouraging but never lost his focus from the task of improving my playing as efficiently as possible, and he demonstrated an intuitive knack for helping me understand through analogy and example. Frankly, I was surprised to improve so much in both skill and confidence in only one lesson. I intend to take more lessons with Lloyd and recommend him with confidence.
