I have a home in Huntington Beach that had an existing furnace and ductwork. I wanted to install AC utilizing the existing system. I consulted with several HVAC contractors and received quotes. Mina was the most knowledgeable of the group of contractors, provided the best suggestions, and also had a very competitive price. During the installation the ductwork turned out to be in poor condition. Mina replaced the ductwork and only charged me the cost of material and not the labor. For anyone who has done contracting this in unheard of. Change orders are often outrageously priced. Mina is an honest man who does good work and cares about satisfaction with the job. If you have the opportunity to use Mina I highly recommend him. The system has been installed and running for 1 month and all continues to work great. Thank you Mina.

David and Thomas Garcia were friendly, professional and punctual. They completed the residential furnace installation in less time than I estimated and did a thorough job explaining the operation of the new unit. Very happy with these two professionals!

I wish all contractors were as responsive as Air-O-Stat. I had a small flood that blew out two furnaces. When I called that sent a tech out the next day and gave me a specific time for the appointment (rather than the normal some time between 12 and 5) and he was on time! They fully explained what was wrong and went to get replacement circuit boars and installed them immediately. I was a difficult issue to deal with since all the functioning parts of the furnaces had been under water but the fixed it quickly and were a delight to deal with. Will definitely use them exclusively in the future.

Excellent service, Excellent workmanship, Excellent value. I throughly reviewed all of the estimates and ratings of the companies and Carlos stood out from all others. He came out and gave us an estimate and even gave us a better deal when I inquired about another estimate I had received. He installed our new furnace and blower the next day! He even made sure that I completely understood how to operate my new Nest thermostat. I would highly recommend Carlos; he take pride in his work and is truly professional. He even repaired a hole in my roof. I’m truly a happy customer. Thanks Carlos 😊

After meeting more then 7 different contractors I was about to give up on this project as it seems too expansive and too long. Then I found Noah and Ben who showed me the right way of saving. They did an amazing job remodeling my kitchen so I ended up hiring them for my master bath remodeling as well. It took them 3 month to finish both projects and they keep my house clean and quiet the most they can as I'm working from home and needed to have my privacy. I recommend there crew to my sister who are still thankful for it. I would love to show my project to there potential customers as I'm really proud of it. Thank you Ben and Noah 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Overall very good experience. Hector is very honest. Got a good feeling about the company and in speaking with him. Pricing very reasonable. Overall clean work. Very responsive company. We had 2 entire HVAC and furnace systems replaced. Unfortunately furnace had a technical glitch in the system within the first couple of days. As soon as they found out the problem, someone came out to fix it immediately. Now everything is running smoothly. You never know with any product, if something might go wrong or a part may be recslled...so it’s important to have a company that is very responsive and ready to fix any problems encountered. We felt that we were in good hands.

As a general contractor, we have worked with many HVAC companies in the past and Aeris is by far the most reliable and our go to company for AC systems. We never use cheap companies and rather pay more usually to avoid headaches on the job but Aeris pricing is very fair considering the quality and service they provide us. Highly recommend them!

After months of having AC problems, my air conditioner finally stopped working. It stopped working during the heat wave...at night. I probably called every hvac business in the area and left them each voicemails. The first business to call me in the morning was 5 Star Air Duct Cleaning. They had someone come within 2 hours to my home and fix the problem. Only one other company called me back that morning. I am happy with the service provided and will not procrastinate when it comes to my unit ever again!

Ernie is our life saver. We couldn't ask for a better job he did at ours and our mother in law houses. We had an old roof that had to be replaced completely. He took care of that with such a professionalism. The job quality and the value are unbeatable! He replaced all the windows at our mother in law house and replaced the whole AC system for her which was maybe 40 years old. She had an asbestos for many years which is dangerous. Now you walk in to her house like to a brand new house. she finally has a good isolation, Clean air, white beautiful windows. We will definately recommend Ernie for any AC and construction work you are looking for to be done at you place. All the job was done on time, professional, responsible and at great price! Now thinking of remodeling our kitchen and bathrooms. Hope he can help us with that. :)

                Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

                What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

                Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
