Ron installed a new cedar fence and gate section for my elderly mom. It was perfect. It's really easy to open and close which was important for my mom. It couldn't have been easier. He bought the materials and installed it and now she has a nice new gate and fence. Highly recommend! He showed up on time and always answered my texts promptly. His price was really reasonable too!

I have to echo the other 5 star reviews. Platinum removed and replaced rusted broken sewer pipes under my house with all new horizontal piping. A hard and dirty job but their work was truly outstanding. Then they cleaned outside drains which were clogged with roots which had been growing for years. Again, not an easy job but they kept at it until it was done. Joel, Rafael and crew were persistent and efficient. And left my house and outside areas clean. Wouldn't know they were here. Power washed and swept all outside spaces & didn't leave any debris behind. And they showed up when they said they would. Compared to the other plumbers I've had work on my house since I inherited it last year they were the best. Highly recommended!

Could not have asked for a better experience. James was patient, flexible, and easy to work with. He helped prep the project and followed through on a thorough completion. When I have decent photos I want to post here, James installed a steel frame in our loft which allowed us to hang a barn door type room partition across a span of our loft (which has 15 foot ceilings).

Oscar and his crew built me a gorgeous fence! I had approximately 75 feet of fencing that was completely falling apart. Oscar is very knowledgeable. He told me that he has been working on fences from the time he was a teenager. His quote was very fair and his timeline fast. I had gotten a quote from my longtime handyman, but I chose Oscar because he did the work twice as fast for half the price. He stuck to his bid, did not come up with overages and material charges were reasonable and not inflated at all. I will definitely call him again with all my fencing needs. He removed and disposed of the old fence, built me a horizontal redwood fence with metal supports and a new pedestrian gate. The neighbors have been commenting about how much they like the awesome fence. If you are looking for a trustworthy professional who does great work at a good price, look no further. One more thing, Oscar and his assistant also figured out how to fix my driveway gate in a matter of minutes. My handyman had (unsuccessfully) tried to repair it twice.

Robin did an excellent job in removing our leaning 100 ft. wood fence and replacing it with a sturdy and straight fence. The project involved myself and two neighbors and Robin handled the project professionally and diplomatically when some bickering started between the neighbors about who was going to pay for what.

After the wind storm we need some serious repairs on our wood fence. This our first experience with Thumbtack, it was excellent! Jamie came in with the fairest quote. We hired him that night and he got to work immediately. He is a true craftsman and a real nice guy. We are completely satisfied with all the work he did! We had to giggle, he finished the job two days before the date he gave me, when he could start! I will be reccommending him to everyone I know. Thanks from Cindy and Scott from Lomita.

Let’s just start by saying if I could give these guys more stars I would . Last year one of my neighbors recommended me to the Gutierrez family ... and thank god they did ! My front yard looks clean and inviting. Straight forward business, hardworking men , and all around great people . My wooden fence in the front yard was up and complete on the same day . No doubt I’ll be calling them back for my future home renovations. Thanks again Gutierrez & Sons !

Scott did an awesome job for us. He installed a new wood fence as well as enclosing our carport on 3 sides with horizontal slats. He was super easy going, so easy to work with and offered ideas and input along the way. He was extremely reasonable and really cared about the work he was doing. I plan to use him more in the future and 2 of my neighbors are talking with him about their projects. I have total trust in him and would definitely recommend him anytime.

Jose Luna did a great job of replacing the wrought iron fence in our front yard at a fair price. He would have earned five stars except for the fact that he was several weeks late in completing the job.

Jerry painted a 50" wood fence and 6" gate for us. He provided turnkey service, including a day of priming, color-matching and procuring the paint, and doing two days of painting. He was punctual and courteous throughout and the fence looks great. I'll definitely hire Jerry again if needs come up.

I wanted a stand for my aquarium. A google search led me to thumbtack. 30 minutes later, Jose was in my living room talking about my project with me. The next day, I have a completed steel stand exactly to my specifications. Great welds, accurate fabrication, and really fast. I have no complaints. I will work with Jose again very soon.

David repaired some sprinkler pipes that we broke. Since we had to wait till the goop dried we couldn't check it out but when we did and a new leak was seen he came out the next day to fix it. Very reasonable price and nice to work with. Will be quoting a fence for me as well.

Had a decorative picket fence installed. Shopped around and received several bids. K Star was very competitive in price, in fact, beat one quote by 50%. Spoke with the owner, Ed. He was very helpful and very professional. Within a couple of days, Art arrived at the house to measure and provide an exact bid. He fully explained what their product was and how it measured up to the competition. The install was done today (04-21). Sam and his partner arrived early, were extremely courteous and did an incredible job. Could not be more pleased. I will definitely recommend K Star!!

I needed help fixing a fence, laying a concrete floor, and demolishing a patio. Abraham promptly came to my house, did all measurements, and provided a quote. The final price was very reasonable compared with other bids. The workers started the work quickly as promised, and the entire project was completed within a week. Edwin addressed all my questions and requests, and I was very happy with the end results. I would highly recommend All City Builders for any exterior work that you need to get done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
