Dr. Kovan has impressed me with her writing and editing skills! I wish I could rate my overall experience with additional stars because she did a phenomenal job! To trust someone to revamp my CV and Cover letters within a few days in order to meet a specific deadline was scary and stressful at first, but once she broke down the steps in a collaborative and encouraging manner, my anxiety decreased! Within 24 hours, she produced a jaw dropping, Beautiful CV that I could not have ever imagined would have my name attached at the top! Her overall performance and service is worth every penny, I can assure you! Furthermore, to receive a professional, articulate, creative, and strategic cover letter was beyond what I expected. I can't say enough POSITIVES about this entire experience working with Dr. Kovan! She truly is the EDIT GURU! The extra extra stars reflects the experience of working with such a delightful, Hilarious and encouraging person who listens well to feedback and acts on it to make the experience more collaborative. My son needed help with Spanish and Algebra. I thought Chemistry might become an issue later on. Eric found him a tutor able to do all 3! Allyssa has been great helping with everything. It was great not having to find separate tutors. Allyssa has been so patient and kind helping my son get back on schedule after his surgery. We love her!

Wang lao shi (Grace) has been my daughter's private Chinese tutor for two years. She works very well with young children - she also tutors several of my daughter's classmates - and she is adaptable, fun, caring, kind, generous, and skilled as a teacher. My daughter, who speaks no Chinese at home, is progressing in her Chinese studies very well and can handle the same assignments as her many Chinese classmates, I am sure, because she has Grace's little bit of extra support at home. I have no hesitations in recommending Grace. She is punctual, a very good and patient teacher, and I see real results.

The best part of working with Angela is that she is very careful about teaching you in the simplest way possible. As an International student junior in computer science classes in college, I had a hard time understanding the lectures in class, so i would get weekly tutoring from Angela. She is not like an irresponsible tutor who will just tell you how to solve your homework and be done. Instead, she asks you a lot of questions and leads you to think until you get the right answer. It is really awesome. Also, Angela's bilingual teaching is great. She is very fluent in Chinese and we mostly used Chinese in class because I am a Chinese international student.

Tim was a great teacher for me! He was easy to talk to,understood my questions, and helped me improve my weak points. After working with him for a few months, I was able to understand a lot of the material provided in the SAT test and improve a lot on my practice test. Overall, Tim is a great teacher for learning how to improve your English , especially to prepare for SAT test.

I am amazed as to the quality of tutoring I received from Arbor Tutors given the low price. The tutor my daughter had was very sweet and very patient with geometry. You can't ask for a better tutor than the one we got. We chose to do the online tutoring. Five stars all the way.

Josh was an awesome SAT tutor for my son, increasing his scores 110 points in just a few weeks of tutoring. Prior to Josh, my son was enrolled in a commercial SAT prep course: 3 hours on Friday evenings and six hours on Saturdays along with 11 other students. My son did not respond well to the group setting. These sessions could not hold his attention, and it became a weekly battle to get him to go. After a few weeks, he quit the course and decided that individual tutoring would be a better option. Josh’s style of personalized attention offered my son the back and forth interaction he needed to maintain interest and motivation. He had a great depth of knowledge (Yale graduate), as well as a warm and personal demeanor. He took the time to understand my son’s individual style of learning and identified the areas with which he needed more assistance. In summary, my son benefitted greatly from Josh’s talents, and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing one-on-one and personalized attention.

I hired Scott to help me with writing and composition of my essays for graduate school. I am so happy I met him and that he agreed to work with me. From day one, I realized that my work and ideas were in really good hands. We started working together at the beginning of the school year and he’s been with me every step of the way. My writing has greatly improved, as have both my grades and my personal and original voice, which I never knew I had! I highly recommend Scott. He’s a gem of a tutor and person.

Darya tutored and advised me throughout my senior year of high school and my first year at college. Having Darya by my side throughout the stress of a year and a half journey has had a significant impact in my life. Although Darya's main responsibility was to tutor me for my Advanced Placement (AP) Literature class, she went above and beyond to what I expected of an English tutor. She helped me find my inner voice as a writer through tutoring me about grammar, organization, and vocabulary. She also helped boost my confidence as an underprivileged Latina studying in the STEM field as a computer science major at the University of California: Santa Cruz. I passed both my AP Government and AP Literature classes and tests which is significant because both required a heavy amount of analytical writing; I graduated high school with honors and with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA), 3.7, at any time of my academic career. One week before I was going to take my SAT for the third time, I mentioned to Darya that I was struggling understanding a large portion of the Math section of the test. To my surprise, she was thoroughly capable skilled in tutoring me in math, along with English. In less than seven days, Darya was able to successfully prepare me for my last SAT test; subsequently, my SAT score improved by more than 100 points. If we had more time to go through the preparation book, I could have further surpassed this amazing progress. Another aspect in which Darya supported me in my college application and preparation process was in guiding me to refine my college essays for both private and public universities: as a result, I was accepted to more than half of the colleges that I applied to. Finally, I am most grateful for Darya and her efforts towards my success because of the high number of scholarships that I received in the second semester of my senior year in high school. Through Darya’s excellent editing and writing abilities, I was able to accumulate more than $200,000 in scholarship rewards from four different organizations. I could never have imagined this much triumph before meeting Darya; without these scholarship awards, I would have been forced to work during my breaks and during school to afford a college education. Now, all that I have to worry about is learning as much as I can while I am at UCSC. On account of my strong achievements in less than a year with Darya, I still utilize the many tips and lessons that she has instilled in me. As a result of this, I excelled in my classes at UCSC with a cumulative GPA of 3.6. Because of my outstanding academic success in the first quarter of college, I was exclusively invited by the university to apply to the College Scholars Program; this two-year program selects 20 students out of about 200 students applying from each college at UCSC to help give them meaningful academic challenges. Not only do I recognize Darya as one of the most significant people in my life because of my solid academic accomplishments, but also due to the genuine passion she holds to be sure that her tutees succeed. As her tutee, she constantly reminded me of my own abilities to encourage my confidence. We are still in contact today which further demonstrates her enthusiasm for her tutees. She is evidently benevolent, motivated, and intelligent, and I highly recommend her tutoring and guidance talents to any student who is fortunate enough to be her tutee.

Karen is a really wonderful mentor and tutor. She has been working with my kids for the past six years and she has a great way of setting high expectations while being supportive at the same time. I've seen her work with a variety of different styles of learners, and she seems to really "get" kids, and be willing to meet them where they are. What I most appreciate about Karen is her commitment to working with their strengths and building up the areas where they need improvement. Karen genuinely likes kids - and she enjoys working with them. It has been a huge blessing to have worked with Karen.

About

Since we began offering tutoring in Menlo Park in 1976, our philosophy has been simple yet inspired: Students who develop self-understanding gain self-confidence and make educational progress to achieve their academic goals. Everything we do reflects that philosophy. We are professional educators and learning specialists who build supportive relationships through one-on-one tutoring and other education-focused efforts to foster student understanding and achieve progress in learning. Simple subject mastery is only a starting point; our students are taught to evaluate and overcome or compensate for learning challenges. We carefully match each student with a tutor, learning specialist, or other specialist for the best fit, so we consider student learning style, specialist teaching style, and even personality. Once we determine an individual's learning profile, we develop a plan, monitor progress, and update the plan as needed. Our staff has the flexibility and broad skills to overcome immediate impediments to educational progress, while developing and fine tuning longer-term strategies for success. We work collaboratively, benefiting from our staff's wide range of experiences.
