Pete's training was "Training the Trainer". It was amazing! He's punctual, and very professional. The guidelines and notes that Pete provided was very helpful. He also demonstrated how to train. I agree with Pete that it is always better that the owner of the dog train so that the bonding is better. With just two hours of training, my dog has already picked up few commands. Thank you Pete! Pete gave us a great starting point to start training our dog with behavioral problems. We started working on impulse control, feeding rituals, and commanding her attention in a stressful environment for our dog.

Working with Courtney was great. She gave us a lot of tips and tricks for Motley's leash reactivity and most importantly helped us understand his frame of mind and body language. Would definitely reach out again for any dog training needs!

Courtney is fantastic. I appreciated how she inquired after both me and my dog during our training sessions. It helped further cement the relationship between dog, owner, and trainer.

Tammy began training and working with our chocolate lab when he was 11 months old. While our dog went to stay with Tammy for 2 weeks, we often wondered what was occurring, as we knew that Rudi was strong willed as a puppy and often destructive. During the 2 week training time, we would get messages and even a video or 2 sent to us, showing the progress that she was making with Rudi. After 2 weeks, Rudi returned with behaviors on lease that made realize that with consistency our dog could demonstrate and practice good training behaviors. Tammy has a strong communication system established with our dog so he understands what is expected of him when we walk or work in the house. He really looks forward to seeing Tammy. Even more, Tammy continues to work with us and our dog on a weekly basis, working to train us as well as the dog. We are so pleased with our dog, his training ( which is praise based, not treat based) and our weekly sessions with Tammy. She really wants everyone to be successful.

Five stars out of five!!! Tammy is a great trainer. In only three sessions, my new little rescue dog is doing all the training basics: sit, stay, heel, come, and down. We are working on others. Plus, Tammy is personable, patient, and so dog knowledgeable. I highly recommend her!

My Newfypoo pup Jelly Bean is a handful, especially considering I have never had a dog before. I was fortunate enough to stumble on John Vinton's site, after being dropouts from Sirius group puppy training. His technique is unique as he does not advocate stuffing the dog with never ending treats. Instead, consistent reinforcement of commands accompanied with appropriate overwhelming praise when deserved. We're only 3 lessons in. I am so proud of my Bean, especially when compared to other dogs we meet on our walks. We both still have a lot to learn and with the help of "A Better Dog Trainer" I know we'll be successful.

We have been sending our dog to Susan at Nu Pawspective for about a year now. Susan is an intelligent trainer with a "dog whisperer" instinct for dogs. Our dog loves going with Susan every day and always comes home exhausted and happy. We are thankful to have someone whom we trust to care for our dog as much as Susan does.

Rusty has exceeded above and beyond my hopes for a trainer. After our first complimentary consultation for him to assess my pups behavior as well as for me to assess whether Rusty was the right trainer for us, I knew I had landed on one of the best. He possesses an incredible wealth of knowledge that he conveys efficiently and proficiently giving you the tools to truly carry over the work done in the sessions to every day life with your dog. He is professional, patient, and creative in his training, not to mention a true dog whisperer. While I originally sought Rusty's guidance for foundational obedience training and separation anxiety, it evolved to using him to assist in the journey of training my pup to be a therapy dog. Along the way, my dog suffered an traumatic experience while under the care of a sitter and adopted fear behaviors that had not existed before. I called Rusty right away for advice and help. We adjusted our sessions to address the immediate concerns so they would not become permanent. He was a complete blessing and my pup is successfully on the mend. Rusty is so well-versed in many areas of dog-training (he's your one-stop shop!) Whether you need short-term assistance, long-term, or varying areas of concerns, look no further. You don't need to take my word for it, just take advantage of the complimentary consultation and see for yourself. Absolutely no regrets here.

Rusty is extremely knowledgeable in all areas of dog training. We found him through Thumbtack. What set him apart from other trainers who responded to my ad was his attention to my exact details for the needs I required for my dog. He pin-pointed the specific areas he would be able to focus on helping us and highlighted his experience in these areas, which is very extensive. We also love that he travels to our home and helps our dog in the environment that is most comfortable to him. He eventually shifted outside of the home, incorporating other physical spaces that were natural to the outside world. His first meeting with us was complimentary because he wanted to make sure he was the right fit for us, as much as we were the right fit for him. We appreciated that he had our dog's interest at heart. He explained that he has been working in shelters for many many years and with former bait dogs and Vietnamese street dogs for years, helping to reduce fears and aggression. He also had extensive knowledge on providing basic commanding tools. He has recently started his own company and is clearly ready to have his own business up and running. I do hope this review will assure those looking for the right trainer to give Rusty a call for your complimentary consultation. Rusty is a dog whisperer and I would highly recommend his services. We are so grateful to have found him.

Rusty is a patient, calm and well-informed trainer who was extremely helpful in helping us with our dog. After adopting Minnie, a shih-tzu mix puppy, from a rescue, we quickly realized she had some issues she had developed from her life experience so far. She was incredibly fearful and reactive to nearly anything that moved. She was also completely untrusting of any people coming in our house. Rusty was able to spend the time necessary to develop a relationship with Minnie. He then gave us the tools we needed to help Minnie become more confident. I love that Rusty didn't just train our dog, but trained us to train our dog. This helped Minnie develop faster and helped us feel more confident in many situations. Rusty even setup controlled situations for us to work on our own techniques and also see how Minnie would react in different situations. I really can't recommend Rusty enough. He is friendly and patient plus knowledgable and confidence inspiring. Plus all of his techniques are in the positive training style which feels great to use with your dog.

Emily is fantastic! She began working with our 6 month old weim only 4 weeks ago, and he is already a different dog. He has learned to be better on the leash, developing better response to commands such as sit and stay. Emily truly listens to the needs of the family and is very responsive to the individual dog needs. She is dependable, responsible and when you meet her, you can just feel her passion and dedication to puppy training. She sent us regular daily updates about our puppy's progress, including video clips. When we first started, our puppy was shy of other dogs, but after only 2 weeks, he was braver and more assertive in the dog park with other pets. Emily is a pleasure to work with and we have just signed up for another 4 weeks of training to continue building on the progress our doggies has made. She is down to earth and caring. She is also not afraid to say when something isn't working, which we truly appreciated. Our dog didn't like the halti leash, so after a couple of weeks of training, Emily came up with a different leash option and was very honest about the reasons for the change. It's refreshing to work with such a professional. Thank you, Emily, for all your dedication and hard work!

Crystal is the best! She is dependable. My dog loves her and Crystal understand animals. As an owner, I found Crystal to be flexible and communicates well, which is important when planning and changing drop off/pick up times. She is conveniently located near the airport too. We've used her for mid-day walks and over-night stays. Our neighbors started using Crystal's walking service after running into Crystal and our dog. The neighbors claim their dog is happier to see Crystal then he is to see them! You know dogs and cats don't hide their emotions! Thanks Crystal for your great service and smile. You ARE a gem!

Emily is one of the most passionate and knowledgeable dog trainers I have ever met. I contracted her when I adopted a rescue with severe separation anxiety and who never had any formal training. Emily is very skilled at engaging the whole family in the training, answering all manner of questions. She provided very helpful guidance on what to work on first and how to work with our pup successfully. She also gave great feedback on what to look for in the food we give the puppy. To top it all off, we had a lot fun. Thanks Emily. We look forward to continuing to work with you.

Emily is awesome! She came to our apartment to help us with basic training for our 4-month old Golden Retriever, George. We brought home two Cairn Terrier pups. It had been 12 years since we had trained a puppy, and we knew we needed a refresher course. We went to a local groomer / boarding facility for help, and it was like a time share pitch. I won’t go in to details. So we found Maj on Thumbtack. I told her right away that we humans wanted to be trained; we didn’t want somebody to offer us ready-for-use puppies, pre-trained for our convenience. We needed to be refreshed on how to live with our new pups, and how to make them happy to live with us. Well. Maj is perfect. She loves dogs and she knows what she’s doing. She has worked with us to make the whole family one. Our biggest problem has been the puppies piddling on the floor, and she had many suggestions to overcome this problem. She also consulted with her mentors to help us (our pups were a hard case). We have found a solution, and we’ve made great progress. We continue to work with Maj to train our pups to listen to us and be the great family members we want them to be. We continue to work with Maj to be the best puppy owners we can be. We’re completely satisfied.

Maj is wonderful. My puppy loves her training sessions! Maj is very knowledgeable, patient, calm, kind, and encouraging. I really love her positive reinforcement and loving approach to training, it is exactly what I was looking for. I also really appreciate that Maj will tailor things to your personal needs and comfort level too. She doesn't give me rigid rules and tell me exactly how my dog should behave, she talks to me about what I'd like to see and what works best for my family. I've seen great results so far! I highly recommend Maj!

Heather helped with obedience training my beagle, who is very stubborn. They did verbal commands, leash training, house training and manners, and Heather has had a lasting positive influence on my dog. She is very professional and thorough, and she brings real experience and methodology to create a personalized training outline, which helps maintain the behaviors. 10/10, would recommend again.

There is no one better to care for or train your pets. We have left our three rambunctious boys in their care and they always have fun. They are treated like family and always come home well taken care of a little better than when we left them. When we get to Amy's house the boys go nuts! They don't even care when we walk away. If that doesn't speak well I don't know what would! They get one on one care and lots and lots of cuddles. Your pets are in great hands.

Review for Cally Davis Last Fall we adopted a 13 month old German Shepherd from our local Animal Shelter. I have had 6 GS companions in my life but none of these were adopted. All of them have been wonderful Canine Citizens and two of them involved in various 'therapy work' with people. One reason I adopted a German Shepherd: this was my way of thanking this breed for bringing so much joy into my life. I wanted to take care of one who otherwise might not have life in this world..and share the joy of canine-human companionship with her. However, it only took a few weeks for me to realize that bringing in a young dog, whose history I did not know, was very, very different from raising and training a puppy 7 - 9 weeks old!! From both her scars and her behavior, I realized she had been so abused & unsocialized that my main priority was to offer her unconditional love and the certainty of a Home here for her. After three months, I realized that unconditional love is not enough - Coco needed guidance to help her rethink her responses, collaborate with the humans caring for her, and make her needs known without being destructive of household objects. She needed specific help to overcome her intense anxiety and fear of people..and occasionally of other dogs. Being a young German Shepherd she also needed lots of good exercise. Unfortunately, she came into our lives at a time when our own usual rhythms were radically interrupted. My husband was in the hospital and rehab for four months....this occurred six months after she came into our family. All the previous work I had done with her starting rapidly slipping away as she wondered if she was being abandoned and she began her frequent attempts to hide under our house. It was about the time my husband returned home that I met Cally Davis....she was recommended to me by one of my Vet's Techs who also told me that there would be times when Cally would want to have her own dog (Amber) along in both the teaching and exercising sessions with Coco. I started not to call Cally because I did not want Coco to have to compete, with another dog, Amber, for Cally's attention....and what a mistake that would have been!! The combination of Cally and Amber as Coco's Teachers is just superb. Not only has Cally introduced and taught leash etiquette, good social skills, and how Coco can moderate her own excitable behaviors; the combination of Cally and Amber have allowed Coco experiences with another dog-as-teacher that are invaluable. I no longer worry about taking Coco to dog parks or in spaces where we might encounter other dogs, children playing, and great commotion as one can experience in the County Parks here in Santa Cruz. Under Cally's tutelage, I actually look forward to training sessions that involve real challenges for Coco in learning to trust other humans and dogs; learning not to be fearful when some new 'event' happens in her life. She's a smart dog and, through Cally's work with her, she has learned to use her intelligence in ways that benefit her and make her experience in the world a joyful one. In essence, through Cally's work....and my own follow-through with this work: now Coco walks easily on leash, responds quickly to my requests of her, and has a comfort level in the world that I worried she would never gain in any place other than within our home. I can take her...and I do...everywhere I go and know she will be fine; and others will enjoy her company! She is more than fine!: Coco receives many positive comments about her 'way of being,' rarely do we go anywhere that some stranger doesn't make the observation equivalent to: "What a smart, wonderful dog.." It is quite clear to me that the profound changes in her are due in large part to her work with Cally - as well as with Cally and Amber! I especially recommend Cally for those people who have adopted dogs and are unsure of how to read their dog's behaviors or how to assist their dog in making changes that are necessary if this adoption is to prosper both the Canine and the Humans in the 'Family Constellation.'

David & his team are fabulous! Our high energy Aussie has been with Citizen Hound for over 4 years, and they do an amazing job of bringing her home tired & happy every day. From Facebook photo albums of your dog's day at the beach to get togethers where you can meet the team and/or your dog's playmates & owners, David is great about making you feel involved in your dog's life away from you! He has a natural way with dogs, and puts 110% into making his business the best it can be. He is also excellent at understanding dog behavior & changes in behavior. When our dog went through a phase of being nervous with other dogs when we were with her (behavior she wasn't displaying with CH), he worked with us to identify what was going on, to show us the subtle things we were doing to trigger her behavior, and to get us back to normal. I can't say enough good things about David and his company - highly recommended!

I've been using Citizen Hound's services for more than a year and I can't say enough positive things about David and his team. The price they charge is great and every day my dog goes out he comes back totally exhausted. I work really long hours and there is nothing like having the guilt-free, peace of mind knowing I can come home and just relax, and that my dog Ramone had a good 2 plus hours of exercise and socializing. One of the best services Citizen Hound provides is his team's flexibility; he is always very amenable to my last minute change of plans, whether it be an extra walk or a cancellation. Citizen Hound is an amazing company and Ramone and I are both really lucky to have them as our dog-walkers.

Emily took amazing care of our dogs for over a year. She picked our two large dogs up for play group 5 days a week and we boarded our dogs with her when we went on vacation. She is punctual, dependable and responsible. She was almost always on time and communicated if running late, or if there was a change in schedule. We trust her 100% and our dogs love her whole heartily. They waited anxiously by the door for her every day. She is super dog savvy, and her love for animals glows. She is also a kind and compassionate person with a great heart. We are moving across the country and will all miss her so much. You and your dogs will be in good hands with Emily!
