My experience with Fredy and his painters was great. Fredy is incredibly professional and responsible. He was available and responsive via text to confirm the work and communicate leading up to and during the work being done. He gave me the best quote for the work, and the job was completed on time. I was clear that I didn't need the walls repaired to perfection or sanded, etc. So the quality of the job reflects that - some spots were certainly repaired, and those were done well. There is one section of one of the rooms that doesn't look like it got a second coat of paint. There was also a small change based on a miscommunication -I needed 4 metal plates (about 8" by 3 feet long each) that were mounted to the wall also painted over. Initially, they were taped and not painted, so the guys had to rush in the last 3 hours or so to get them done and, understandably, the end product looks a bit sloppy. Fredy also helped me with a small spot on the front of the building that was marked with graffiti, which wasn't included in the original job. He went out of his way to match the paint himself and paint over the spot, and I appreciate so much the "above and beyond" effort. However, the color didn't end up matching so the front of our building is now 2-tone : / I was unable to be around during much of the work, so I basically just trusted the process and walked away. The guys were super trustworthy too, which is so important to me. With regards to the quality of the work, I am about 90% satisfied and would use them again for sure. I would just be more present next time to help sort out and manage the small things as they come up. Thank you Fredy!

Jarrod was quick to come to the rescue when my originally hired painters fell through. He painted my entire apartment for a great flat rate price, up front and no hidden costs. We discussed what I needed, he recommended the paint and went to work getting it finished. Wish I would have found him first, would have saved me time and trouble.

We hired Excel Construction to do a complete kitchen remodeling and enlarge the existing space by expanding the walls several feet to the patio area. The new kitchen included the installation of the upper and lower cabinets, new paint, new backsplash, marble counter top, LED lighting and new dishwasher, stove and range. Eyal, the project manager and Revital (the lady that we worked with in regards to all the documents, payments and permits) from the office who did an outstanding job helping us. During the work, we clearly noticed that they were always made sure that the costs will remain the same and won’t pass the budget that was set at first and they made sure the job was done accurately. All the sub-contractors that they employed for our house (carpenters, electricians, painters etc.) were outstanding, qualified and experienced. We were very fascinated that our project Eyal was able to complete the entire kitchen few days earlier than he promised us. We were always given a personal attention by Eyal, who was very good in communication and organized and by Revital. The new kitchen looks perfect and very useful and we strongly recommend them and we will hire them again for any remodeling project we may have.

These guys are quality painters who are professional on all levels. The lines were spot on with no tape marks and the quality of work is superior. In addition to my first job I will be having them come back for additional work. There is no hidden agendas in the original quote and the painters are at work the moment they arrive. The paint matched the colors we choice and the clean up was a plus. Fast, courteous and a spot on company to hire. If you want a professional job without the hassles or worries these guys are straight up the right choice for you. Thanks again see you in the future.

ABSOLUTELY the BEST !!!!!!! Painted 15 years ago, age had not been kind to the weathered wood and peeling tex-cote paint on the exterior of my house. I obtained six bids for contractors to paint it again. I was impressed with Richard right from the start. He was very knowledgeable, so I hired him to pain one of my houses in Winnetka, CA. There are so many good things to say about Richard and his team. Where do I start? He seeks perfection. We are talking straight lines, clean lines, and the best material possible. His price includes Dunn-Edward or Sherwin William paint. You have 1,000+ color options to choose from. Because my house is frequently beaten by the 100+ degrees San Fernando Valley sun, I opted to upgrade to Life Paint's Cool life product for a lifetime warranty. The paint keeps my house cooler. It is thick, like yogurt - we are talking amazing quality. Their preparation to the house was perfection. They dug ditches around the entire perimeter, repaired a million cracks, sandblasted the exterior, sanded the windows, and replaced broken window panes (I don't need to replace them anymore!), and even cleaned up my neighbor's yard after the sandblasting job. Richard is not just a painter, he knows how to fix anything that is wrong with the exterior construction of your house, especially if it could negatively impact the painting results. He replaced multiple rotten wood beams on my back patio, the wood flashing on my side exterior door, removed the 1950's wood beams on my front porch, repaired window sill gaps, and replaced the entire wood siding on the side of my garage. He showed me where the previous painters even used Bondo to repair the rotten wood, rather than replace it. His price included the replacement of up to 20 feet of bad wood. He charged extra for the overage, at a very fair price. Truthfully, I was just happy that he knew how to repair everything and I didn't have to hire someone else. He is an absolute professional and extremely customer friendly. His team works quietly, music is kept to a minimum, they pick up their own trash, and discard your trash from the job at the end of the day. Their work area remains clean. He is present every day, supervising the workers. If something needs to be done, he jumps right in and appears to know how to do every part of the job. Speaking of customer friendly, I changed my mind about the paint colors so many times. He even repainted areas of my house just to make me happy. He was never frustrated with me, which I appreciate. As they say, a picture says a thousand words. Take a peek at the before and after pictures. The color is amazing - I'll take credit for that! However, I couldn't do it without Richard. He is an amazing consultant. He helped me to select the color, giving consideration to shaded areas and direct sun. So, I loved Richard's work so much that I have hired him to paint the inside of my house! Listen, if you are looking for a quality paint job, you need to hire Richard. He is the best. He is also trustworthy, knowledgeable, patient, professional, and fair priced. I highly recommend him!!! RICHARD, THANK YOU FOR AN AMAZING NEW HOUSE!

Hiring Johnny has been the best decision I've ever made, in the past I've had hired many other painters who gave me cheap price but at the end I was very disappointed for their work was a terrible mess. Trusting Johnny with my home painting project is a decision I can make all over again, his price was extremely reasonable and his work is more than perfect. I am very happy to have my house painted the way he did, his expertise advise helped me through choosing the colors and picking the right paint. Johnny will now be my number one painter for all my upcoming projects, besides painting he knows carpentry, he fixed my bathroom door and medicine cabinet! I am very satisfied. If anyone thinks in painting call Johnny don't hesitate give him a call and he will make wonders with any project. Thank you Johnny -Maria Elena

Richard was the BEST deal in the Los Angeles county/ Santa Clarita valley . I talked with over 30 different painters who quoted 3x his price, they gave great reasons why they were better and Richard did all those reasons also but for less. Richard finished my 3660 sq ft home in Canyon Country in 2 days. I was shocked. He said 2 days and it was 2 days. Exceptional work done too, fit for a King and Queen. This is the guy you want for the job you need done.

Carlos did a fantastic job of painting many rooms in my home, from a high-walled living room to a small bathroom. He was honest, on time, and clearly an experienced and meticulous painter. He minimized my inconvenience; he purchased the correct paint and gave me recommendations about painting decisions when I asked. He worked quickly, efficiently, and left my home in order, and he even swept the floor so that my home now looks brand new! If you're looking for a great painter for a bargain, I recommend Carlos!

Learon showed up promptly with a professional set up. The kids really liked her and the Face Paintings looked great. Vibrant colors and artistic details. We had about 30 kids at the party and at no time did it feel like kids were waiting impatiently for their turn. My daughter and her friends were happy and the kids parents were saying how great the Face Painter was. Would definitely recommend!

John is very friendly, but courteous. He was from the beginning honest about the work and guaranteed his work. When other painters came to estimate, they tried to paint some walls which to John's opinion is necessary, and to charge higher. John did superb job to paint some walls and touch up most of walls. The house looked so new and bright. Thanks for his honesty and his superb job.

Edwin initially came to my house to look at the bedroom I needed painted. He quoted me the highest but also guaranteed quality work (and good coverage since the original color in the room was a taupe and I wanted it white). So that’s why I went with edwin. I trusted that he would make sure the work was done correctly. We scheduled another day for him to come to put 3 sample colors on the walls so I could decide on the right color for the room. After he put the samples on the room, I picked a shade of white. His staff taped off the room and then began the work. After the 3 coats of paint, I went in the room to inspect. I noticed some spots that seemed uneven even after the paint had dried. Edwin was quick to fix those areas. Edwin and his assistant left that day but the next morning, I noticed more areas where I could see the old color come through. So without hesitation, Edwin said he would come back a few days later to make sure the painting of all the walls were done to my liking.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
