Very professional, thorough and patient which worked for as a beginner in this kind of fitness. My only con is that I can't do as many lessons as I'd like. Overall a great trainer.

I have been taking voice lessons from Lou Savage for a few months now he is excellent. He has a great way of referencing a movie or describing a great meal or talking about how a sailboat sails on the water, and how these references can influence singing and learning how to use one's voice in performing. I have really enjoy my time with him. Thank you for everything Lou.

Mark has been our kids (aged 11 and 9) piano teacher for a couple years. He is very professional and takes the time to adjust his teachings so that both kids can understand it at their individual levels. Mark is very patient with the kids. He is also very flexible with his schedule, accommodating the times when we need to reschedule the kids' lesson. It has been very convenient to have Mark come to the house to give the kids their lessons. Mark strikes a balance between teaching piano in a way that the kids can understand it, but also instilling the fundamentals of reading music and understanding the musicality of the songs they are learning. It is evident that Mark is very knowledge and has a passion for the piano; that comes through in his teaching.

I've been receiving vocal lessons from Janene for over a month now and it has been great. I already see a huge improvement with the way I am able to sing. Before this, I had no idea of the vocal abilities or range I possessed until following her instruction. I am very grateful and will without a doubt be continuing on with this service! If you're reading this an are skeptical, I urge you to take the chance and book vocal lessons, you will be glad you did!

My son has been taking piano lessons from Ms. Kaiser (he's more formal with her -- I believe everyone else calls her by her first name) for six months. He absolutely LOVES it. I took several years of lessons (played throughout high school and college) and generally play for fun, so I am not clueless when it comes to music. I am also a teacher (just not a music teacher). I find that Marguerite is amazing at her craft -- both playing and teaching. She is very in tune to young students and knows when they are tired with one activity. She quickly moves on to something else! I love this approach. Additionally, she does not teach JUST piano. Students learn singing, rhythm through percussion, note reading, AND piano. I was not taught this way, though I really wish I was! Additionally, she teaches the students perfect pitch from day one. She truly is a special gem of a teacher. My son loves her dearly and we are thankful to have such a great teacher in our lives. He is now on to composing his own tunes. I am amazed with him and thankful we have such a great teacher to nurture his musical creativity. You won't regret hiring Marguerite!

Penny is a great . It was super easy getting the lessons scheduled and set up and she wasn't pushy at all which was great. She 's patient and gave tons of positive feed backs and she does have the best rate for the lesson package offered. Can't wait for the next lesson!

Keith teaches my son beginning guitar lessons and has been great. He is patient and really individualizes our lessons for my sons specific needs. He brings hand outs which is great-my son can practice on his own, and if we ever forget something or can't figure out how to play something he is very open to questions anytime.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
