Introduction: Patrick Anseth is an accomplished jazz guitarist and educator in the Bay Area. He keeps a small studio within walking distance of 19th Street Bart in Oakland, and currently has a few openings for weekly lessons. In addition to his work as a performing artist and private teacher, Patrick also currently holds a faculty position in the Instrumental Music Department at Oakland School for the Arts where he runs the Jazz Guitar Program. Topics covered in lessons include, but are not limited to: Scales and arpeggios Technical studies Chords Grooving Improvisation Effective Practice Routines and Methods Ear Training Reading music notation I love teaching. I pride myself in providing my students with a solid and well-rounded foundation so that they can reach their musical goals. Watching them grow as musicians is deeply rewarding.

Patrick is patient, thorough, and provides a comfortable teaching environment that in a very short time has greatly improved my playing. He provides manageable lessons and exercises that fit my skill level perfectly, while pushing me to enhance my skills at the same time. You will be extremely pleased with Patrick.

I've been playing guitar for more or less 12 years and have been performing as a top 40/funk/blues cover artist and church musician for at least 10 years. I constantly play and perform. I'm self taught but I knew major scale theory. I've always wanted to expand my knowledge in playing. Patrick is has helped me with that, he's very knowledgeable about theories and a very effective teacher. He knows exactly what I need to improve my playing and continues to push me towards that direction. I've had good teachers before and they as well was knowledgeable about music theories but Patrick has an edge cause I have heard him apply these knowledge. With my experience in playing more than a decade, I can easily tell that he knows more than theory but also the application of these knowledge, he as well performs regularly and practices a lot to maintain his skills, which for me is a good sign that my teacher is still learning more. I highly recommend him as a guitar teacher regardless of your level in music and playing the guitar.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$80 per hour lesson, $60 per 45 minute lesson and $45 per 30 minute lesson. I offer a discount to students that are taking hour lessons and paying monthly (4 or more lessons per payment). $75 per hour.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will get to know my new students level of ability during our first lesson. From there we launch into deeper knowledge of the guitar. All the appropriate scales and arpeggios, how to practice efficiently, ear training, how to play music creatively and having fun with it.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a BM from Berklee College of Music, and I am currently in the process of obtaining and clearing a CTE credential for teaching music performance. (Career Technical Educator).
