We had a great experience with MovingWithLove Moving Company, and I would highly recommend using them for any kind of move-- large or small. They were very professional and had reasonable pricing-- they also customized the project in a way that really worked for us. We will use them again for any of our smaller moving needs!

Great Moving company. We had to move from our 4 bedroom house about 4 ioles away. We know it would be a hard move because of the large amount of stuff we have with our 2 boys. Mikhail took the time to come over before the move to meet face to face and get me a estimate of time. I knew we were going to need a lot of help, so we decided on 4 movers. The moving day was stressful, we still had a few boxes that needed to be packed. Mikhail's team helped to carefully pack the remaining items. They also have a ton of moving blankets and boxes, and made sure all the furniture was wrapped before moving. Mikhail also let us keep everything in the truck overnight, so we could finish getting the new house ready with some last minute cleaning. This really helped us a ton. The Globe crew was steady, they did no move so fast that they hit walls or dinged furniture, the moved at a steady pace were they were careful but quick. I highly recommend Globe Moving. They make the move less stressful, they listen, and a very professional.

Using Cube Moving was very simple and fast. I called about 2 weeks prior to my move, and I did not have a "moving to" location yet as I am putting my things into storage, and hadn't secured a place yet. I called Cube and explained my situation--it was absolutely no problem. The day arrived for the movers to come--they were a few minutes late, but had called about 20 minutes prior to the agreed time to let me know they would be late...honestly I did not even consider a few minutes past, late. However, still very courteous to call and I appreciated their promptness. I was moving a one-bedroom, and 2 young guys came, I believe their names were Andre and Johan. They were very friendly, and most importantly thorough yet efficient. The entire move from my home to my storage unit (which was about 6 mi from my home) took 3 hours almost to the dot. Because most companies make you pay a 3 hour minimum anyways, I paid exactly what was quoted for me. Also because I used yelp, I was able to use a $20 discount being offered on yelp at the time. The price was excellent, service was excellent, and I felt my furniture was safe in their hands! Thanks guys!! You were awesome!

From the first phone call with Daniel I knew that I had chosen the right company. He answered the call and had a nice conversation with me about the overall process to put me at ease. I was still a bit nervous about using a moving company but when Marlon, Kevin and Gary showed up nice and early and ready to go I felt better. They were all friendly and took the time to securely wrap all of my furnitur and delivered it perfection. None of my antiques were damaged! Marlon especially was very nice. I would hire this company again.

Last month i had to move my home and i went online again to search for affordable moving services in Carlsbad and San Diego to get a ballpark idea of what is would cost to hire moving company. I asked for a quote through the Thumbtack. A couple years ago i used Dominant Moving but i was hoping to find something cheaper. Their pricing was higher but they gave me returned customer discount. I did not hesitate and decided to hire Dominant Movers again.  At the moving day our movers were Vlad, Jose and Marvin. Very punctual, friendly guys that worked non stop for about 6 hours. They took a great care of all our furniture. Dominant Movers are best movers in San Diego. I will be calling you again. Thanks for your service.

Dave Harkins did a fantastic one-man job of moving our piano from one room to another. He was careful and no mishaps occurred as the heavy piano was expertly perched onto his dolly and moved across wood flooring onto an uneven tile flooring surface and placed in its new location. I would absolutely hire Dave in the future for any kind of job requiring the moving of heavy or awkward items. As a bonus, he's just a nice guy and was right on time as agreed.

My originally planned movers did not show up and Hector with Vazquez moving was able to put together a crew to move me into my home at the last minute. The crew was meticulous in protecting my belongings and were very careful not to damage my home moving out and moving in. Mosley is a great crew lead and you'll be lucky to have them manage your move. I would recommend them ... they are good people and did a great job!

We will be starting tomorrow for the moving process. As it sits at this moment because we have not met or moved yet. The process of getting this started with cloud 9 is awesome. They have worked with us so far. Very nice and courteous. Very generous and kind. Moving is very hard work. When this is all done, I will be able to write a review. But, so far I have zero complaints and only good words.

I would like to say that I am extremely grateful for this moving company. I am a 65 year old man, I usually do the moving on my own but I'm not as nimble and handy as I use to be. I was skeptical at finding a company that'll be able to handle moving my entire home across town while handling my valuables with care. These men were on time, and assured that my valuables would be well taken care of. These men had an entire systematic process and moved with a sense of urgency, care and confidence. Well done guys!!!!

Artur, Pocket, and Gregory (in training) helped me with my move. Very friendly and professional. They arrived on time and got to work right away while Artur went over the paperwork with me. I've never used movers before (usually do it myself with friends) so wasn't sure what to expect. They were very professional and right away felt secure in that they knew what they were doing. They carefully wrapped all my furniture and loaded all my belongings. Most of my stuff is IKEA and they usually don't survive traveling and moving very well but everything made it in one piece without any damage. They did note to me that since it was IKEA that they current guarantee and I appreciated them letting me know that upfront. But it all went well which was a relief. Anything that I needed to know I was well informed of. Even before the move I was emailed a confirmation along with documentation so I knew what to expect on the day of the move. Artur was very thorough in explaining everything as well as answering any questions that I had. They quoted a very fair price as well as a fair "not to exceed" quote on the day of which we were well within. It was a 1 BR 350 sqft move into a 2 BR 900 sqft and took about 3 hours minus the drive time. It took a bit longer than expected because they took extra care with my furniture which I completely understood and appreciated. They placed everything where I wanted it and did a good job of cleaning up (packing materials) afterwards. If I ever need to move again I will definitely keep them in mind and would recommend. Thanks Grizzlies!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
