Michelle is a warm and inviting person who made me feel comfortable very quickly. She has been a great mentor and helped me overcome many obstacles in the aftermath of a serious life event I experienced. I felt I could be me without any concern for fear of how she may react. I have done traditional therapy but have preferred her holistic approach to combining therapy with a goal oriented approach to solving problems one may be experiencing. I have been able to get to a much better place in my life thanks to her support and the perspective she helps me obtain through self reflection. She encourages you just enough to help you push past your self-set limits without ever feeling like she is pushing you past your boundaries. Somehow, I always get to the realization I need on my own terms but with the help of her encouragement. I love her approach and feel that her respectful manner along with her warm, understanding attitude creates a space for one to really get down to one's core and find one's self in the process. She has truly been a gift to my life.

Excellent experience. She arrived on time and had all needed supplies and equipment. She displayed advance knowledge of her art and for the first time a massage has addressed the problem areas with pain and true stress relief. I highly suggest Robin for her advanced practice massage therapy. Denise

From: Dr. Steven Bartz My background in medicine spans over 30 years. Based in hard sciences, my first job was as a respiratory therapist working primarily in critical care units and E.R.’s. My doctorate is in chiropractic. The concept of “Reiki” seemed rather fringe and suspect to me at first. Then I began to study this concept, I came to realize that this system is actually based on modern day application of quantum physics, meaning that all life is based on energy substrates. Reiki to my understanding is based on manipulating these energy fields in a manner somewhat similar to how I manipulate the joints to affect the neurological system. My skepticism was thoroughly addressed when out of desperation and suffering for several years with debilitating back pain, “Yes, the irony is not lost in that of a chiropractor with a bad back.” I sought the treatment of Reiki by Katherine McBride. I have to say I’m rather amazed that in only 3 sessions I experienced a 80% (at least) improvement in symptoms. Now, due to my own positive results, I refer my patients to her for therapy. She is now available to see and schedule appointments through my office and the feed-back I have received from these patients has been overwhelmingly positive. Sincerely, Dr. Steven Bartz D.C.

Helped with Relationship Counseling. My girl friend and I were going through a difficult time. We heard from others about the benefit of choosing a life coach over a MFT or a Psychologist. Our problems were communication about here and now. We didn't want to have to spend so much time individually sitting in "couch therapy " with a psychologist. Patti gets right to the underline issues. Her experience in this field is second to none. Our relationship including that of our teenage children that each of us has from our previous marriages has gotten so much better. Everyone in our family has benefited from we call her " our life coach" She is so easy to talk to. My fear and anxiety trusting to talk to someone with our issues went away the moment we met her. Our relationship has never been better thanks to Patti

When it comes to massge therapy, yoga or anything of the sort I'm a skeptic by nature. Alex was referred to me by a mutual friend who swore by her work and she completely changed my perspective on body therapy! Not only did her private yoga sessions increase my flexibility and ability to focus, but her bodywork mastery has had me feeling more centered and comfortable in my own skin than I have in years. Highly recommend. Thank you, Alex!

Functionality! Having worked with Kz (I should get copyrights on that name since I started using it with her, what, 6 years ago?!! In all seriousness, Kz does what she does with such intuitive friendliness and grace that I sometimes forget I'm getting a massage as well. I'm a manic painter who will do hours/days painting and be an aching sore mess afterward. All these years later I ty not to take it for granted that I leave every session having had a FANTASTIC MASSAGE. I am not just refreshed, but invigorated; I'm in tune with my body, my feelings, and my muse. I've also come to know that I spent some very real time with a real, loving woman who listens without judgment, offers sage advice when appropriate and for that time we share together it is only us. Kz is truly empathic! I honestly feel she has helped me in so many ways beyond the therapy of her physical massage. The therapy of her being: being completely with me and working through my physical, mental, spiritual, psychic ( I hadn't been that open to metaphysical concepts before) and artistic knots (now knowing they are all connected) is something I cannot put a value upon. If Kz was not such a great mom, wife and human--she would be a superstar. She should be a superstar! She is as good as it gets. I'm thankful for our sessions, but I'm so blessed to call her friend!

I've been working with Taylor over the past few months. I originally came in to see him about an issue I had with my shoulder. After my first Neurosomatic Therapy session, my shoulder felt better than it had in a while! It took 2 other visits before it felt completely better, which was nothing compared to other methods I tried. I'm currently seeing him for some nutritional coaching, which has been going very well! I'm very happy that I made the decision to go in! It's been great getting to know both Taylor and Ross!

I highly recommend Vanessa as a massage therapist! She is a trained professional who listens to your concerns and cares about helping you to heal. She follows up with you to see how you are feeling and helps you to understand what you need, how to stretch at home, what oils to use, etc. I was looking for someone to help me heal as my immune system has been compromised along with a high level of inflammation. It started in early April when I woke up one morning barely able to move. Weeks later, I found myself shopping for a cane. After two major surgeries over the last couple years followed by months of extreme stress at work, it was likely the perfect storm that caused me to crash. I was referred to a Rheumatologist with the possibility of Fibromyalgia. After many tests and X-rays, I do not qualify for any particular diagnosis, but am being put in the RA bucket to allow for certain medications which includes a chemo drug that will likely bring on other issues due to the side effects. Thank goodness I found Vanessa! I had my third massage today. After my second one last week, I immediately noticed that I was walking normal again, smoothly and without hesitation. My hips are starting to realign and the oils she is using are designed to reduce inflammation. Vanessa knows exactly what to do and can identify the areas that need extra help. Much is written about massage therapy and healing, including anti-inflammatory issues like mine. If you are having chronic issues, feel the need to detox, or simply want to indulge in a little pampering that will also benefit your health, this is a great place to get back on track. I can't express what it feels like to have new hope and natural options to pursue. You might ask her to tell you the story about her Grandfather and what she was able to do for him. Such a great story and you will feel encouraged. Signed, Grateful, working professional Orange County

I wasn’t entirely certain about what I needed. I was still deeply stuck and unhappy, though I had put significant time, money, and effort in to therapy and counselors. I found Marie through a search for a life coach. Marie has a vast understanding of the tools and practices of traditional spiritual healing. She’s also very knowledgeable about modern psychology and development. Her abilities and years of experience have made her a gifted energy and spirit worker. Marie is flexible and meets you where you are on your life journey. Her studio is very comfortable and safe. The combination of meditation, energy work, and her patient listening, felt tailored to me. After two sessions, I accepted that this is the kind of help I need to make genuine progress, and to see myself and my life with any clarity and peace. I attend her weekly meditation classes, which include tools to develop my own ability to heal myself, and regain clarity and direction. It can be challenging, but knowing I am deeply working on my life path makes the work productive and fulfilling. I have experienced profound shifts in my perspective. I was unfamiliar with this sort of work, and I’m very glad I pushed through some of my apprehension. With Marie’s help, I feel I’m back on track to being connected in my life and relationships.

Demor HotSpot Therapy offers private workout sessions and message therapy(hotspot therapy). I have used both services for about 5 years and I highly recommend them. William, particularly helped me with hotspot therapy. I suffer from chronic neck and back pain, and after having his treatment on a regular basis my muscular pain was significantly relieved. He has an instinctive understanding of the body and its functioning regarding pain. He is a very positive person with a lot of energy. I would most certainly, highly recommend him if one is looking to be motivated to workout. I would also highly recommend his hotspot therapy treatment for any stiff, tight and painful muscles. His treatment is extremely therapeutic, healing and relaxing. If one is looking to improve one's quality of life, both physically and mentally, Demor HotSpot Therapy is the place to go!!!!!

Both my husband and I got massages from Dorel. We had very different needs and preferences for type of massage and It was impressive that Dorel listened carefully to what each of us wanted and was able to provide very different techniques. Dorel is an extremely knowledgeable person with many years of professional experience and even ran a massage training school for many years in Pennsylvania. He knows what he is doing. He quickly figured out that stretching would be important for me and he explained why and demonstrated what I should do on my own each day. We also talked about exercise and nutrition He is available by phone or text for advice, too. I found him a very caring person. (By the way, he has worked with a number of Olympic athletes and is trained in British Sports Therapy, as well.)

First and foremost, he made me feel safe and comfortable while I was struggling with some pretty epic anxiety going into things, even though I was somewhat challenging to work on in that regard. I feel like we got into some useful dialogue, and his therapy (I specifically underwent a Past Life Regression) brought up all the relevant information I needed to at attempt to move forward. LJM Myers's commitment to the quality of his work and immersive study in his craft is evident. Highly recommended.

Shawn McClain is, hands down, the best physical therapist I've ever used (and I've used many). A compression fracture of the spine has left me in need of pain management and manual physical therapy. Every patient is different, but my outcomes with Shawn were excellent. I've also taken Shawn's yoga and Pilates classes, and they too were excellent. Shawn is a master of her craft and a superlative practitioner of the healer's arts. Most highly recommended.

Yesterday I had my first session with Mary Grace at RBM&W. I have chronic lower back pain that flares up from time to time. Mary Grace concentrated on my problem areas but also provided considerable time and attention to full body therapy needs. It was one of the best massages I have ever had and I feel so much better today. I'm looking forward to my next scheduled visit.

Tanya's one of the few highly knowledgeable therapists around. This was extraordinarily refreshing as the muscle pain in my back required more of an experienced diagnosis to apply the appropriate treatment. I'm grateful for her help as there aren't many like her.

Katie is amazing. She's good at diagnosing where my muscles are tight, where my knots are and knows how to remedy them. She has an acute sensitivity to touch and a knowledge and awareness of the body that separates an average massage therapist from an extraordinary one. Once you have felt how a massage is suppose to feel and heal, its hard to settle for less.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
