I have taken music lessons from several musicians who have always told me to work the minor pet atomic scales. The difference I discovered with Savage Music is that the lessons were geared to learning how to play overall and with other musicians. Savage played with me and opened the the roots of the music, the rhythms and timings, especially the base notes to follow the melodies on guitar. I was given my first song to play and perform the first day and another each week in progression. You start feeling what he is teaching. Thanks Lou. See you soon.

Cal has been my Vocal Coach/Accompanist for nearly 25 years. He can play any song in any key. He taught that I could feel confident and in control by learning to count difficult rhythms, learning intervals, and how to find the right key by finding the highest note, and being sure that it was in my range. With lead sheets and practice tracks, he helped me build my repertoire of over 75 songs in Jazz style.

When taking lessons, it always seems better to me if you respect and enjoy the playing and performing of the teacher. To me, it gives inspiration and instills confidence. Dr. Greenberg is a world-class jazz guitarist whose live playing (and in particular, his soloing) is among the best I've heard. His lesson approach is clear, well thought out and backed up with a really deep knowledge of music. His instruction method is patient, non-intimidating and overall very "user friendly". Regardless of stlye (classical, rock, jazz, etc.) I could not recommend him highly enough!

We had the pleasure of having Steve as my son’s guitar teacher for over five years and I cannot say enough good things about him. Not only is Steve an incredibly talented musician, he truly is an excellent teacher. He is kind and patient, offering encouragement and positive feedback along the way. Steve is also great at customizing the lesson to suit the student. My son especially liked that Steve asked him for suggestions of songs he would like to learn. As a result, his lessons were perfectly balanced with the fundamentals, along with music/songs my son was interested in. In addition, Steve does not miss an opportunity to offer up a challenge and take the student to the next level by introducing a new artist or song, all the while keeping it interesting and relevant. We were amazed at the progress my son made under Steve’s instruction. You will not be disappointed with Steve as your guitar teacher!

Jean-Paul approaches teaching with an aim toward creating a well-rounded musician. He teaches reading, rhythm, finger dexterity, improvisation, and ear training. He works in all music styles, following the student’s interests, yet ensuring they stay on track with all styles of music, from classical to blues. My son has been studying with Jean-Paul steadily for 3 years, and his love for music and playing has grown with each year. I highly recommend Jean-Paul for any age student, whether child or adult. He works from a place of mutual respect and fun, but also with the underlying understanding that learning an instrument requires discipline and focus. My son (now 10) is not only nurturing his love for music, he is also learning how focus and regular practice pay off over the long term. We recommend Jean-Paul without reservation and with great enthusiasm!

I had been looking for the right producer for a long time. I worked with many but it wasn’t until I started working with RebbeSoul that I understood what true musical chemistry is. He was very intuitive to my needs as an artist and had great ideas and musicality that came from his musically diverse background. He was able to craft the right music for me and help me refine my own sound, a sound I’d been pursuing for years! For live performances, he guided and taught me how to interact with the audience on stage and I now have a riveting show from beginning to end, as a result. RebbeSoul is a pleasure to work with - easy and fun and always pushed me beyond my boundaries to the next level. I am very proud and happy with my first official album RebbeSoul produced and got great reviews! I recommend working with RebbeSoul to any artist looking to find a musical home, direction, and inspiration.

Tim worked with me on arranging, producing and recording my songs. It was incredible to work with him because his musical vocabulary and ability is so vast. Because he's a multi-instrumentalist and can play any style of music, he completely understood the sound I was going for and oversaw the direction of the songs - he was like a one man ban when we recorded. It saved a lot of time and money on my end because he could do virtually anything I wanted - from playing instruments, to helping with harmonies, to engineering and mixing the tracks we recorded. Working with Tim in this way was a totally unique experience. As someone who has played and collaborated with musicians for over ten years, I can say I have never met anyone with both his skill set and complete dedication.

She recorded the vocals for my song. I have vast experience in the industry and recorded with many many artists. She is definitely one of the best in the industry. Highly recommended, she is precise, quick, reliable and fast. Her vocals are immaculate and she is definitely a person I will continue to hire for many of my projects. Very versatile too, from r&b to pop, rock, soul, blues, etc. You will not be disappinted

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
