All I can say is WOW! I had a very small (but important) project - a simple family birthday party that I wanted to be special. Juan not only took the small job, but created a logo for me so great that I am sure everyone will be talking about it for years to come. I was able to use it on plates, napkins, koozies, etc. to create the theme I was looking for. Juan was SUPER RESPONSIVE and I got what I needed in record time. He communicated with me throughout a weekend, made sure he understood exactly what I wanted and was reasonably priced. All in all, one of the best overall experiences I have ever had. I HIGHLY recommend him! He will most certainly exceed your expectations.

In the past five years my husband and I have attended several fantastic entertainment and charitable fundraisers produce by The Mark Kearney Group. Our memorable highlights include The Jewel's of France in Beverly Hills for Juvenile Arthritis hosted by Teri Hatcher , MKG Emmy suite for breast cancer hosted by Adrienne Malouff, Project Angel Food hosted by Lisa Vanderpump. I hired Chef Mark and his fabulous catering company for our wedding this April in Newport Coast California. We absolutely adore his five star Pacific Rim cuisine. The catering crew was professional, kind and captivating. It truly made our Wedding Day special.

My husband and I would like to thank Ricki for all of her incredible work planning our wedding three weeks ago. Every step of the way, she was there offering ideas, suggestions and advice to help make our wedding an exceptional and unique event. Ricki truly went the extra mile seeing to it that all the arrangements were completed in a timely fashion—acting as my “fairy godmother”. Ricki was a gem to work with, generous with her time, and graciously understanding of our religious customs. Our beautiful wedding went off without a hitch thanks to the creativity and organizational skills of our fully prepared “Special Event Genie,” Ricki Lewis. We couldn’t have done it without her. Thank you so very much Ricki for wonderful memories that last a lifetime. – Sincerely, Jessica & Joshua Castaños

Michelle was an absolute godsend. We were planning a wedding for about 150 people at a venue where we had to bring in absolutely everything - from the chairs and silverware, to the outdoor kitchen, dumpster, and trash bags. Needless to say, there were a lot of moving pieces that needed to be pulled off within pretty precise time frames. Michelle and her team were up to the challenge, and exceeded all expectations. Not only did she create and execute a meticulous timeline for the day of, but she went above and beyond in every way. She made herself available to our questions whenever we had them and shared with us so many invaluable pieces of wedding planning wisdom she's picked up during her extensive experience as an event planner/coordinator. She had ideas and insights that we never even considered, and even offered advice that helped us cut down on costs in several areas of our budget. She was also our lifesaver in the weeks leading up to the event, completely managing all vendor communication and double checking our work so that we could use he time we had left to shore up all the small details and complete last minute DIY projects. The day-of flowed so wonderfully, and during the few times there were hiccups, Michelle was already in problem-solving mode by the time I noticed them. She was also always composed and centered, and served as a calming presence for us during what could have been an otherwise very stressful day. Michelle and her team were the glue that held our wedding together, and we are so grateful for their help in making it truly the best day of our lives. Hire Flyte44!

Before my 55th birthday party if someone had asked me what was the best day of your life, I probably would have said my wedding day or when my kids were born. Well, after my amazing birthday celebration, I can honestly say the best day of my life was my 55th birthday party. Mari (8 D.A.Y.S. Events) did an absolutely fabulous job from finding the perfect location, to creating a delicious menu and specialty cocktails to hiring amazing entertainment. Our party theme was a combination of "Fifty Shades of Grey" and "Eyes Wide Shut" and we were going for classy but naughty. Mari totally took the theme and ran with it! I've had big birthday celebrations every 5 years since my 25th birthday. Thanks to Mari and her staff this party blew all my other parties away. My friends can't stop talking about it and I've heard the statement (too many times to count) that "This was the best party I've ever attended or will ever attend!" If you want to have a party that your guests will remember, then you should hire Mari at 8 D.A.Y.S. Events.

Michelle and Eimee were absolutely wonderful to work with! I was a bride planning my wedding from Maryland. I was really worried about the floral arrangements because I was not in California until a couple of weeks before my wedding. Michelle and Eimee always kept me in the loop and consistently communicated with me via Skype and email. They researched flowers that would complete my vision and fit within my budget. Everything turned out so beautiful! I cannot thank them enough!

I had the best experience with Victoria. She had amazing ideas for my wedding day. The touch of blues in a silver and white tone theme added elegance and grace, just as I was imagining it. All flowers were really fresh and guests were all eager to take it home after. Despite the great work, I had no issues communicating and from the start of our consultation, I noticed how quickly I was understood with my requests. My bouquet was so full and heavy, so I know I got my money’s worth. Definitely a to-go-to florist with any wants and needs that will be fulfilled beyond expected.

Nicole was the best decision I made while planning a wedding. I almost didn't hire a wedding coordinator, but due to high levels of stress, I began to look for one until I stumbled upon Nicole. I look bad ck now and think what a close call it was if I hadn't hired her! She made my day so much easier! She is so nice and professional! I highly recommend her!!

Jessell planned our wedding. She coordinated everything. She worked with the caterer, florist, DJ, and production company...all we had to do was say "yes" or "no". Her onsite team was awesome and kept things running. Our friends are still talking about how cool it was. We would not have done anything differently, so 5 stars all around!

We had a reception here at our home in honor of friends wedding. Stuart was highly recommended by a restaurant owner to do our catering. His professionalism was excellent. Prices and menu selection was within our budget and tastebuds. Setup and clean up was efficient and quiet. Stuart worked with the direction I wanted to go and was helpful with his suggestions to have something for all our guests tastebuds. Our party was a big success because of Who's Hungry!!!!

I met Leah thru a mutual friend in the entertainment business. After our initial meeting I decided to hire her as my kickstarted campaign consultant. I was looking for $10,000 for my one man show. We met before the start of the campaign and every week throughout and I followed Leah's advice to the letter. And guess what? In 30 days we raised over $10,000! Leah us knowledgeable, smart, always to the point and extremely pleasant to work with! Her passion and enthusiasm was rubbing on me and I thank her and highly recommend her services!

There are a lot of photographers in the wedding industry. Sometimes it seems like everyone with a digital camera is suddenly in business. Milla is different. She is an artist. Trained, tried, and true. When you work with her you getting photographs by some one who truly understands how to craft images that capture fleeting moments. Milla has studied photography for more years than she would probably admit to and has worked for some amazing places and people! Ask her about it!! She listens to you, understands her art, and truly wants to give you the images you will cherish for a lifetime. I love working with Milla...always such a pleasure.

Kris was fabulous! She made my son's Bar Mitzvah a success. She is very detail oriented and has an eye for what is going to pop and impress. Those qualities surely helped to make our baseball themed bar mitzvah a total home run!

I first met Chanda when I was a bride's maid at my friend's wedding. I was impressed with how she organized and handled everything, very professional and also very sweet and attentive to your needs. When it is time for my own wedding in June 2014. I reached out to Chanda first. My wedding was a mostly DIY, I did most of the decorations my self with help of family and friends. Chanda was able to work from my vision boards, sketches and put those elements together as I imagined. She also helped coordinate with all our vendors on the day of, and trouble shoot when it's needed from a loose garter (lol) to handling an emergency (a guest fell into a water fixture) So, whether you need a full service wedding planning or Day of coordinator, I would really recommend Chanda.

We liked Kelly so much for our wedding, we hired her for all of our other events too! She handled the whole weekend, 3 different events, with calm professionalism, style, poise, and good humor. By the end she felt like one of the family, and our guests hugged her goodbye. We will be recommending her to everyone for any event and we will definitely be engaging her again!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

      • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
      • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
      • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
      • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
      • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
      • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
      • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
      • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
      • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

      What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How much do day-of wedding coordinators cost?

A day-of wedding coordinator makes sure that every detail of your wedding day goes off without a hitch, and deals quickly and quietly with any last-minute emergencies. For many brides, the day-of wedding coordinator is their best investment! The average national cost for a wedding coordinator is $800 to $1,000. Although full-service wedding coordinators often charge a percentage of the total wedding budget, most day-of coordinators charge a flat fee plus an additional hourly fee if the day runs long. For example, a 15-hour day-of coordination costs an average of $600, plus an additional $45 per hour if the coordinator works more than the planned 15 hours. Another option is to hire a coordinator to manage the last-minute details leading up to the event; for example, 25 hours of month-of coordination costs an average of $1,200. Several factors affect the cost of day-of coordination, including the region, the planner’s experience, and the specifics of the wedding. If the ceremony and reception are in two different locations, expect to pay more than if they’re in the same place. Also, extra details, such as managing food trucks or setting up snacks in addition to the meal, will increase the cost.

What should you ask a wedding coordinator?

When you hire a wedding coordinator, you want to make sure he or she gets you and can execute perfectly your vision of your dream wedding. To find the very best fit, it’s important to ask these five questions:

      • Are you available on my wedding date? If the coordinator isn’t available on your big day, there’s no reason to continue the interview — unless you’re willing to shift your date to accommodate their schedule.
      • What’s average cost of most of your weddings? If the coordinator’s usual wedding is outside your range, they might not be the right coordinator for you. Ask whether the coordinator requires a minimum wedding budget. In general, the wedding coordinator’s fee should be about 15 percent of your budget.
      • What is your speciality? Some coordinators specialize in day-of coordination, some create the overall vision, and others act as a producer. Make sure your wedding coordinator provides the type of services that will most help you create the event you have in mind, such as selecting vendors and handling their contracts, or managing the guest list and invitations.
      • What are your ideas for fulfilling our wedding vision? After you describe your dream wedding — rustic or sophisticated, traditional or funky — the wedding coordinator should be able to suggest appropriate venues, menus, decorations, etc..

Do you have a portfolio? Ask to see photos of their favorite weddings, especially if they’ve managed any that are similar to what you have in mind. This will help you see if you like their style and if their ideas seem fresh and creative.

Do I need a wedding day coordinator?

Even if you’ve handled every detail of planning your wedding, you might appreciate having a day-of wedding coordinator in your corner. Usually, the coordinator meets with you a few weeks before your wedding to put together a detailed timeline of everything that needs to happen on your wedding day. Then, on the big day, the coordinator makes sure everything goes according to plan — and handles any emergencies that pop up, such as party crashers, missing tuxedos, late vendors, disappearing bridal party members and more. Most wedding coordinators also handle:

      • Distributing the wedding day timeline to all of your vendors.
      • Coordinating all of your vendors, including the photographer, florist and baker.
      • Conducting the wedding rehearsal.
      • Helping the bride and her wedding party get dressed and take photos.
      • Checking floor plans, lighting levels, cake placement, menus, favors and more.
      • Collecting the wedding gifts and keeping personal items safe and accounted for.

Even if you don’t think you need a wedding coordinator, check with your venue. Some require that couples hire a day-of wedding coordinator for the day of the event.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
