Introduction: Welcome to The Val Larsen Music Studio! I offer private online lessons in Voice | Piano | Guitar | Ukulele | Harp | Music Theory & Songwriting I have a fun referral program where I offer discounts for referrals and multiple students in one family. I have a conservatory education and have made my living solely with art and music for the last decade. I hold a Studio Masterclass as well as a Recital once a quarter. I also have periodic workshops for those with busier schedules. My goal as a teacher is to give my students the fundamental tools they would need to pursue music as a profession or as a hobby. I believe that lessons should be hard work, but also inspire a love for music and performing, and most of all be FUN! I strive to build an environment that reaches for excellence through self-discipline and determination, while being kind and encouraging with my students. What are you looking for in a teacher? What are you specifically hoping to learn? I'm always trying to expand my skillset to meet my students' needs.

Guitar Lessons

Val has made a name for herself as a passionate instructor with deep roster of technical skill sets. That being said, her functional skills as a project manager are just impressive. We have identical twin girls who are in the process of learning guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and voice. That’s a lot to oversee. Enter Val. Individual quarterly meetings to set goals and troubleshoot hang ups. Not only are we checking in on our progress but we work to understand why we each girl is/isn’t experiencing success in a given instrument or sub skill. We adjust the game plan and update expectations to reflect. Rinse and Repeat. With her organized approach and unmatched enthusiasm we are confident our girls will become the musicians we knew they could be. Val is a person that can not only teach, but also act as role model, inspiring young girls by embodying what is possible. Thanks Val

Val is great at what she does! I started lessons with her over zoom - and was a bit worried about how well it would go - but she was very professional, had a very comprehensive on boarding process, but was still flexible and met my personal needs. She’s an amazing teacher, a lovely person, and incredibly talented.

I LOVE working with Val on Ukelele! I’ve never played an instrument before and this was a great place to start. She makes it a comfortable place to learn. Making things clear for me and at my pace. Which encourages me to keep going! Truly an amazing teacher!! Can’t wait for the next level of Uke with Val! 💜

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I generally like to do a free 20 minute consult just to get to know each other and talk about your goals for lessons and mentorship. I really like to get a sense of what your hopes and dreams are so that we're spending your lesson time on the things that you most care about.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been studying music since I was 6 years old. I started with private lesson in the piano, harp and voice. I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from the Boston Conservatory in Musical Theater, as well as a decade of experience being a full time artist. I've lived in Boston, New York and am now based in Los Angeles.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Music has been a major part of my life since I was very young. My family are all musicians. I grew up listening to my mom teach private piano, violin and cello lessons in our basement. I was playing in family ensembles from a very young age, and have always loved being an artist at heart.
