I called Manny on Tuesday afternoon, he arrived in the evening to assess the problem. He showed up on Wednesday morning early with all material necessary to replace a hot water heater. Was finished in 2 hours and we have hot water once again. Nice guy too.

Working with KECKO Plumbers was professional from my initial contact all of the way through to the completion of the job. Sergio arrived on time, discussed the water heater problem at hand, and competently handled the work. He advised me of what he was going to do, as well as discussed the warranties KECKO provides on all of the work. Great work at a fair price. I recommend KECKO Plumbers highly!

When I had an unfortunate problem with my water heater, Jerry helped me tremendously. Upon calling him at 6:40 in the morning, I figured to leave a message for someone to call me as most businesses do on off hours. To my surprise he actually answered. After explaining my problem to him, he decided to stop by first thing in the morning. I saw him within an hour later as he had promised, before 8. After taking a look, he took the time to explain the problems that could not be mended, so we decided a new one was best. He was very reasonable and professional on his installation price. He also took the time to look at all the additional parts to the water heater, as there were a couple of missteps on the previous unit installed that could have been potential hazards for my family. My wife and I were very appreciative of that. I would absolutely use Jerry's Pro Handyman Service again.

I had a leak under my kitchen sink from a former plumber who installed the sink and couldn't get it to stop leaking... until I called Ocho plumbing it was fixed in ten minutes. I have also used their services to replace a water heater, and even remove an old broken washer and install a new one.

Albert is awesome. He is a perfectionist with unmatched work ethic. He provides the best service, prices, and flexibility that I have EVER experienced with a plumber. His prices are very competitive and don’t be surprised if he comes over to quote and is ready to tackle the job right on the spot. Originally we just hired him to in stall a water heater but since he has installed 3 toilets, 1 tub, replaced all fixtures in showers and all valves. So it is no surprise that I would say yes I would hire Albert again and refer him to anyone that needs a plumber.

Isidrio is the BEST plumber (and tech) I've worked with. He was very professional, prompt, clean, and offered a very fair price. I've used him to install my water heater, fix a bathroom faucet leak, and he just remodeled by bathroom. It's hard to find people who are not just good at their job but who are also honest. I would recommend Isidrio for any job.

Great work, they repiped the entire house with copper and replaced the drain, installed a new water heater on a 70 year-old home with 110 degree outside. Miguel Telly, the plumber, and his crew did an excellent job. Bobby, the supervisor, was responsive and accommodating. And the price was great.

I couldn't be happier with the service! A gentleman by the name of Mario helped my elderly mother. She lives far and when I called the company, they were so kind and professional on the phone they had no problem traveling for the job the very next day which was a Saturday! My mother had a leak under the sink and water was getting backed into the dishwasher! He tested to see if there was any damage to the wood and after fixing the problem he went ahead and cleaned my Mother's faucets and tidied it all up! He was very professional and kind. It means a lot to me when I can trust a service and their employees! I'll definitely be using them again for any future issues! Highly recommended!

We woke up this morning and we had water on the floor in the Kitchen, garage and the side of the house. I wasn't sure if we had a slab leak or the water came up through the kitchen sink. I called Moffett Plumbing who we used many years ago to repair a slab leak in our kitchen and we were happy with the results. Scott from Moffett Plumbing responded quickly and examined the problem. He explained that we only had a drainage problem and what our options were. Scott was very professional and respectful. He did not try to hard sell us on something we didn't need. At the conclusion of the work, Scott picked up everything and did not leave a mess. Scott is a credit to Moffett Plumbing and I highly recommend their services and would use them again.

I was very impressed with Richard. He was the first to respond to my job. My water heater control system was not working. Richard said that he could get parts but it would take a few days. Since my water heater was over 10 yrs. old I decided to get a new one. We went to Home Depot and selected a new one. He installed it in record time and did a good job. His price is reasonable and I would differently recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.
