Houman did excellent job at my new home. He was very particular, diligent, very keen and loves what he does. He is very open and upfront and brings in some cool ideas to the table. He installed recessed lights and successfully tried to find the color of the lights to my taste. I would definitely recommend him and surely hire him again for future work at my place.

Ed and his team were super supportive and very accommodating of our requests from the get go. Ed also gave his input with regards to color choices and was able to complete the painting of our entire home (2500 sq ft) within 4 days. His crew painstakingly worked night & day during the holidays and the finished job is very professional. We would highly recommend Ed Cardenas and his team to anyone with absolute confidence. Thank you Ed!!

Ahmed was great to work with. Excellent communication as well. He designed my logo & business cards which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for! I love the design. He was able to provide several mock logos to choose from & used the right shade & amount of color. I highly recommend him! His prices can't be beat either.

This is my big thank you to Mana Design. I simply loved what Mazi did in my new home. Not only is Mazi talented and professional, but he is a pleasure to work with. His passion and knowledge of Feng Shui is impressive and infectious. As a designer myself I can speak to his amazing eye for color and material. I have seen Mazi take a plain home with white walls and little architectural detail and turn it into a beautiful, colorful, fun, and functional home. He makes projects come to life almost effortlessly. His computer skill is awesome. I loved his rendering and visualization. Every penny was worthy that i spent with him. If I need Feng Shui, color or design consultant, or even just a little design inspiration Mazi is it! Thank You to Mazi and his company. Highly Recommended!!!

Kathy and Darren were both professional and personable. They contacted me within 24 hours of my submitting my information and set up an appointment to show me the various products they offered. They were knowledgeable and insightful, offering information that helped me to make a purchase that met my needs. They also did not give up when they discovered the manufacturer did not sent the hardware needed to install the valance for my vertical blinds on my sliding door. They were resourceful and came up with a solution that added to the beauty of the window treatment. The modern window treatments and color scheme have added a warmth and style to my home that I will enjoy for years to come. Thank you Kathy and Darren for being such a blessing and making this project such a wonderful experience. Angela

I needed help choosing paint colors for the the walls and what color flooring I should use that would match the furniture I have and the rest of my decor. She also helped choose the type and color of carpet for my stairs. Cheryl has a good eye for color and new how colors will change once I had painted and the floors were installed. Everything worked out great. She also had some good suppliers to refer me to.

We had a great experience working with Sandi! Our outdated family room and eating area needed some change, but we didn't know where to start. Sandi was able to transform the room into a modern space that's become our favorite place in the house! She was easy to work with and after the initial design consultation provided suggestions for specific items we wanted to purchase and created mood boards and 3D pictures so we could see what the room would look like. She has a great eye for design and provided advice on color selection, decor items, and furniture placement while making sure the room was family-friendly and would grow with us through the years. Sandi is warm, thoughtful, professional and makes the design and remodel process smooth and enjoyable. She was considerate of our budget, schedule and was easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend Sandi Kaneko Interiors!

Wow Laura was amazing. Not only did she bring a new look to my home. She also brought back to life some peices of furnature that I was going to get rid of. Her attention to detail and color really livened up the place. Now every time I come home I feel inspired. Thanks Laura for going above and beyond.

My bedroom was very boring and lacked a sense of style. I gave over complete creative freedom and was ecstatic with the results! Lynn has an amazing way of working towards an end vision. She utilized some of my existing items, transformed others, and added new to create the most amazing living space that far exceeded my expectations. My bland bedroom transformed into a work of art with bold colors, beautiful bedding, wall hangings, and accent pieces that were perfectly placed to bring it all together. I'm more than satisfied with my beautiful room and hope that others can experience the results of Lynn's talents.

I worked with Jessica from the Design Cure when we purchased our new house in June of 2016. We had A LOT of painting to do and no clue where to start in terms of selecting colors, buying the right paint, and getting the overall look and feel we were shooting for. Jessica did a fantastic job! We sent her images of the house and our furniture, drew out a floor plan, then she helped us decide on a color palette and supplies that would fit our budget and our style. We are thrilled with the result- she was fun to work with and very responsive- we would highly recommend her to homeowners and businesses alike!

Designer Mary Colmar is an organizing and stylist magician! Over the past four years I have hired her for several fashion industry photo shoots. Having Mary on my team has made all the difference in the success of every job I’ve had her on. On a personal note, after moving into a new house Mary was my key coordinator and stylist for every room, from choosing the perfect wall colors, furniture placement, to window treatments, she even made the slip covers and pillows! And she is so nice and totally easy to work with, I recommend her highly!!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

      • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
      • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
      • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
      • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

      • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
      • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
      • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
      • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
