Lisa says, "Ben is amazing! I had never had a personal trainer before and I didn't really know what to expect, and then my apartment closed the gym and my sessions became virtual with me working out with my (very minimal!) at home equipment! Now, several months in, I can say training has totally exceeded all my expectations! Ben consistently finds ways to keep things interesting and challenging--even finding creative uses for things I have around the house, like a towel or a step-ladder! He's funny and friendly, but still manages to get me to push myself, it's very impressive! I'm so amazed and happy that virtual training can work when you have the right trainer. I feel stronger and healthier, and now know tons of exercises to keep me in shape even without access to a gym. I could say more, but this is long already, so, long story short, Ben is great! I highly recommend working with him!"See more

Eli H. says, "Nick is an amazing personal trainer, I started with him back in April. He worked around my crazy work schedule. All my workouts have been done virtually which I was concerned about at first but after the first few sessions, it worked great. I was 29 when I started with him at the beginning I didn't want to go to a gym so I did home workouts primarily just using bodyweight workouts and he knew of so many workouts that would kick my ass by just using my weight. He also really understands what I need to eat to fuel my body for what I am trying to accomplish, and he will make recommendations on what I should eat more of or stay away from. I ended up buying weights to use at home I also bought a climbing rope that I hung from my tree and he added that to my workout when I first got it I couldn't even make it all the way up, but after a few weeks, I could complete multiple climbs in my workout. He uses a very good app that helps track workouts and shows you all the progress. He pushes me to do my best without being annoying about it. I have set so many PR's and I always feel great after every workout he watches my form and makes sure that I will not hurt myself or start bad habits and if I have pain that comes up from work I just text him and let him know and he will add some stretches and light workouts in the app that I can do on the fly that targets that pain also with the app it has instructions and videos that help you do it right just in case he isn't available at the time for the workout. He knows what he is doing and he will not let you down if you are looking for a good personal trainer I would very much recommend Nick."See more

Joy F. says, "Sam has been my trainer for two months plus and I have nothing but great things to say about him. He took into consideration that I hadn’t been in the gym in almost one year and started training me at the level that I was at, which made showing up to each session so much easier and something I look forward to. He helped me with my nutrition, how to organize my macros and calories to fit the goal that I want. He also gives tips on how best to recover from working out. I’m so glad I decided to go with my guts and choose Sam and I would 100% recommend him to anyone. PS: here’s an image showing my before (right image) and after (left image) from just one month of working out, following Sam’s nutrition, recovery and cardio advices…. My friends and family were the first to notice my progress and they are so thankful for Sam’s help as my trainer."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.
