I needed five trees in my backyard trimmed down so I sent pictures and they gave me a quote. They came out the next business day and got the job done quickly and efficiently. The prices are fair and I plan to use them again to trim my tree and shrubs in the front.

Mark and his brother did exactly what we hoped they would, “winterizing” our Chinese Pistach, overgrown orange tree, and three Crepe Myrtles. The trees all look much better, and we couldn’t have asked for more in terms of clean up. We took 8 bids for this work; Mark’s price was very reasonable. We will absolutely call on him again to care for our trees.

Cambium tree care were very professional, very efficient, friendly and very reasonably priced. They took down a 40ft tree in my front yard and grounded down all the roots that were protruding through the ground within the first week I contacted them. All the other arborist I called had either high estimates or they wouldn't return my calls or show up for the job when they said they would. I am a very satisfied customer.

The team started out without optimal tools, but purchased tools during the job. As a result of the choice of tools by this contractor, much of the pruning was not cut down close to the knuckles of the pollarded tree as I had requested.

John initially came over to fix my broken valves and do some minor maintenance to the sprinkler system. What I thought was going to be an easy fix turned out to be a new homeowner's nightmare. I ended up having broken lines under my concrete, huge tree roots blocking pipes, and even a tree branch that fell and tried to brain John and his workers. John was an absolute trooper and dedicated his time to fix everything and work around all of the issues. It turned out to be a rather expensive job, but considering the hiccups that happened, I'm very happy. Everything is working, the timer is installed, and the pipes are flowing. I highly recommend John for all of your sprinkler needs.

The tree trimmers were at our house at 7:30 am, which we appreciated them being there earlier then schedule. We have vinyl siding which they placed boards over so it would not get damaged. They got right to work they did a outstanding job. Our tree was very big and they did an excellent job of thinning and trimming it. They cleaned all the little limbs and loose particles out of our lawn and cleaned our driveway. My husband had no extra clean up to do. Cannot say enough about their tree service. As an added note when the owner came to give an estimate he was there exactly at the time he said. Thank you to Juan and his men.

This business checked out okay with the California State License Board. They also came in with the lowest bid! My husband and I were extremely impressed with the young gentleman Balter D. Moreira and his crew. We needed an old birch tree cut down, in our back yard, that was right up against the fence. I always felt that these guys had everything under control! They worked fast and efficiently. They cleaned up so well afterwards too! I will recommend De La Cruz Tree Service to all my family and friends.

Quality Tree Care did a great job trimming a huge tree on short notice for me and gave me a great deal too. They even went above and beyond to trim another tree that wasn't even part of the estimate to help and their cleanup was way better than I could have asked for. I couldn't be happier with the work, thanks

My back lawn was overgrown with tall grass & weeds plus tall weeds / grass covered some river rock areas & a small flat porch. Luis did a good job of getting the lawn & tall weed areas fixed & leaves removed from the ground under a couple of trees.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
