Jose did a very good job. It involved removal of old shrubs and plants on side of my garage and driveway, preparing the soil, fertilizing, then planting ground cover. Next, between the driveway and the plantings, he installed a crushed rock area, which involved digging out soil to allow a substantial layer of rock laid upon heavy ground paper. On the other side of the house, he planted additional ground cover along a 60 ft. bed. He also found several watering heads that needed adjustment or replacement. He worked at a steady and deliberate pace and completed the job expeditiously. I would recommend Jose and intend to hire him again.

Chris was on scene quickly. He took care of my trash removal and had the tools and equipment to do it right unlike many other disheveled looking thumbtack workers who show up with rickety old equipment. His team was professional and did a great job.

Beyond a true personality, Chad is extremely professional and honest. He is a man of his word, detail oriented, and will not let you down. He has 100% integrity, and honesty in his work. He is passionate, hard-working and dedicated to ensure that the client is 100% satisfied. In less than three weeks, a project that was supposed to take way longer, he has achieved faster and even better. He is in it for the satisfaction of his clientele and that is something to be said about professionals. I cannot express the gratitude that myself and my family have for Chad and his services. Do not look any further when it comes to your next home project. Chad takes all of your anxiety and worries away immediately. I have full trust in him, and so does my family. I will be referring him to everyone that I know and will most definitely continue to do business with him in the future. After being taken advantage of by multiple “” professionals” I can finally say that I have trust once again in a removal specialist. Chad, truly is a jem . Look no further. I will be adding before and after photographs of the amazing work he has done for our garage. Thank you Chad so much!

James Laan and his co-worker removed five 40-ft pine trees from a steep slope in my backyard. This 2-person team was professional, efficient, and safe. They were extremely polite, and obviously had worked together for a very long time, for they seemed to communicate with each other on a very deep level, showing care for each other's safety. They were on-time, and did a thorough clean-up of the yard, once all trees were removed. What truly made me very satisfied with their work was the price for this very labor-intensive job. My lowest quotes from other companies came in FIVE times higher than Laan's Tree Care Service for the same 5 trees. I could not believe how honest and reasonable James was in his pricing. His team performed exactly what they promised, and his integrity shined through in his bidding and follow through. He communicated clearly with me throughout the Thumbtack back and forth question period, and never tried to upsell any service. I literally saved thousands for the same work less reputable companies were going to try and charge. I will recommend Laan's Tree Care Services to anyone I know who needs tree removal, stump grinding, or other arborist procedures. I have dealt with many contractors for various services, some with horrible customer communication skills, some who gouge for more money, and who deliver substandard service. Regarding Laan's Tree Care Services, without reservation, I HIGHLY recommend Laan's Tree Care if you desire honesty, integrity, extremely fair pricing, hard-working professionals who know and have a passion for their craft. I challenge you to have others bid on tree care, and then check with Laan's. He deserves 5 stars, and believe me, I don't give many 5 star ratings to most contractors. I'm dead serious...you MUST choose this business if you need tree services. A+ in all categories. Thanks, James!

Jose was the first to respond to my request for someone to perform concrete installation in the courtyard of our home (which was previously filled with dirt and plants) and he offered to come out the same day to provide an estimate. Not only did he show up on time, but he provided an affordable estimate and said he could start the following day (a huge plus!). My stepdad who's been in the commercial construction industry for 40+ years was there for the meeting as well and was thoroughly impressed with Jose's knowledge when discussing the his strategy for job. The day of the project, Jose and his crew (who were also outstanding) showed up on time and did an AMAZING job. I couldn't be happier with the final results. The crew was professional and cleaned and hauled everything away when they were done. If you're looking for construction services, I would highly recommend Jose's services!

I had some miscellaneous outdoor work I contracted with this company including tree removal, demo and masonry wall repair/infill. Jason was punctual and professional. We communicated before the contract was carried out, during, and at close out. He was clear and upfront about cost issues. The cost was fairly priced as well as the add services. My advice as a client is to be clear and upfront if you have issues or questions. Most things can be resolved with your contractor if you keep communication lines open. You can always say no or ask them to fix the work if it is not the agreed upon expectations.

Ronsi's team was excellent. I requested a quote Sunday night, they came Monday to do an estimate, and by Friday noon they finished the project. They fixed my lawn, replace parts and take care of trimming my trees. Ronsi taught me how to take care of my sprinklers, how to change them, fix them, where to buy the parts. How often to water the plants. I think that know I feel that I can take care of my lawn. I would hire them again.

The communication is great. I always get a response when i call. The service has been very good. I have used 4 other lawn service companies in the last few years and Lawn Love is the best . Pricing is very reasonable in comparison with the others and for the quality of the service. Highly recommended.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
