It is my absolute pleasure to write about Colette, who is not only my favourite yoga instructor/teacher in the whole entire world, but also my dear friend for life. Colette is a true yogini, who lives and breathes the true essence of mindfulness. Colette has taught me to believe in myself, have courage and trust my intuition; from the moment we first met, through yoga injury therapy, my pre & post natal, mum/bub classes and more recently Ayurvedic & meditation practices. Colette is also a great inspiration & mentor (especially whilst I was competing my 200hrs TT). Colette has an enormous heart & a genuine soul - namaste.

I work out 4 to 5 days a week lifting weights and ridding my bike. I went to see Monica for a deep tissue massage to focus on my lower back hips and legs. She is amazing!!! Not only did she listen to my focus areas and work on them, she educated me on how to relieve lower back pain. I found her massage extremely helpful and the day after my massage with her I was able to squat heavier weight than ever before and my lower back still feels great! I recommend the 90 min session because she was able to focus on my desired areas but also had enough time for a full body massage. I highly recommend Monica 5 Gold stars!!!

My boyfriend and I bought the groupon deal for a couples massage and had a great experience. They are newer so had openings and were very flexible. They called the day before to confirm and left great directions to find the place. When we got there we were greeted and both Dustin and Jessah were receptive to what type of massages we wanted. They massaged for the FULL hour. I have been to places where they only do 45 minutes or so to account for dressing and undressing etc. This was an overall great experience and we will definitely go back!!

I have been a patient of Justin's for around two years and I feel it is time for me to truly express my gratitude toward Justin and the healing has provided for me through his acupuncture. Let me start by saying that I am a Registered Nurse in an ICU that practices primarily Western Medicine. I first presented to Justin with a multitude of symptoms from plantar fasciitis, chronic stomach and bloating issues, back pain, hip pain, depression and anxiety from the process of divorce and overall feeling of being run down and just tired all the time. I had already seen GI specialists and podiatrists, Internal Medicine Specialists, allergists, neurologists, chiropractors and a therapist weekly. I was beyond frustrated and became hopeless that I would never find relief or answers to my ailments and began to think it was possibly all in my head...part of that is true. Justin does more than just provide the typical needle therapy. Over the years he has treated me with acupressure, cupping, auriculotherapy, healing touch/Reiki, and the other traditional eastern modalities that I don't even know how to pronounce. But one skill I am most grateful for is his ability to guide and teach while I'm receiving the treatment. For me it is like a meditation and it was/is this process that I feel helped me to truly start healing. Justin guided me to pay more attention and recognize my thought patterns and would shed light onto how these thoughts impact my body and daily activities. He teaches me about the channels and the Chi, about different types of beneficial herbs, teas and foods I can incorporate and if your lucky he will share one of his original jokes. I could tell you the exact treatment I received that I feel changed my life. It was the moment that I finally gave in and stopped getting in the way of my own healing. I let my guard down, I cried for almost an hour and I "let it go". Justin had asked me if I was holding onto identities that didn't serve me or if I was expressing my true self to the world. I faced my reality and gave permission to myself to become whole again and to be me. In our few years together this happened only three months ago. From that moment on I became aware that it really was a patient/provider relationship. Sure I would get relief every time I received a treatment, but now actually trying to focus on the needles and the energy flow, clearing my mind and inviting the healing to occur it is a completely different experience. I have had enormous relief from my pain, eczema went away, depression is gone and I've stopped seeing a therapist, my GI issues are under control, I sleep better and I feel like I am me and I am enough. I do still have my Western Medicine MD's that I see but I know that I would never have come this far in my journey of healing and self reflection were it not for Justin's wealth of knowledge, kindness, empathy, education and obvious desire to help his patients on their path to optimal health and self discovery. I will be forever grateful.

    About

our results are beyond usual predictors of outcome. Here's an example; a recent email from a client: Matrix Energetics – email from “A Very Grateful Grandmother!” Posted on April 7, 2011 by missionhillspt.com/blog Ralph, Thank you so much for the healing you did on my grandson. I have never mentioned this to my daughter because she is so sensitive about her son, but for a time I feared he might be autistic, but I no longer feel that way now. As an infant he would become frustrated and would bang his head on the floor, on the door, on the wall or hit himself in the head with his fists. It troubled me to no end to witness this. And when he began daycare at 2 years of age and started catching the colds and fevers that a lot of kids go though when they come in close proximity with one another his fevers would spike and he’d go into seizures. So when a friend suggested I bring him to you I welcomed the opportunity. I realize you have only seen him once, but since you worked on him he has become a TOTALLY different child. He is SO HAPPY…..constantly singing and laughing. That evening when he went home from your office and his mother asked me what you had done it was very hard to explain to her so I asked her to just notice and explain to me the differences that she noticed in him. Well that evening he picked up a piece of broccoli and began eating it as if were cotton candy. Since then he eats spinach, green beans, celery, cabbage, constantly asks for milk. You’ve done wonders for him. The following day when I picked him up from school he took me around and told me the names of all three of his teachers and before we left his classroom he turned and blew them all a KISS! This is totally different behavior for him, because before he was very quiet in school and didn’t want to speak according to his teachers. NOW in the mornings when I leave for work he blows me a kiss and says “I love you and have a good day”. I can’t believe the changes. Don’t get me wrong he is by no means an angel. We still have a few more issues I’d love for you to work with him on, but I WANT TO THANK YOU SINCERELY for the beautiful start you have given our baby boy. There has been no more hitting himself in the head with his fists or banging his head on the floor. He is now a gentle, loving, happy, well-mannered…..well at least a typical 2 year old now. Thanks again Ralph! A Very Grateful Grandmother! I get to be a part and be present for the miracles we see on a daily basis. I get to play in the unlimited field of possibilities in a daily basis. It's not work for me or for us; it's lining up with my desires and seeing what shows up!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.
