I remember when I was young, tutoring was something I only thought eggheads would do. But maybe it's that thinking that got me hiring a tutor for my son Richie. After doing some in depth searching, I found Elite here and asked them for the best tutor they had. They were prompt and eric assigned Kim. Kim kept my son on track and didn't take any of his excuses! After a couple of sessions, richie was retaining lots more information than normal and now I'm looking to elite to get us a biology tutor as well. Great work

Matthew is excellent, for both standardized tests and subject matter tutoring. My child's grades and test scores dramatically improved with Matthew's help. He explains difficult concepts in a manner anyone can understand and provides critical test taking strategies and advice. Matt's friendly demeanor makes the sessions enjoyable. He is timely, organized, provides outstanding services and his enthusiasm for learning is contagious. I give Matt my highest recommendation. Sharon P.

Baeleigh (our daughter to whom James is tutoring) says, "I love that instead of James just telling me how to do something, he uses visuals and is very interactive in explaining something to me. There is nothing that he can do better, I am happy that he is my tutor." As parents, we like that he is so good at finding how Baeleigh learns best so that he can teach her in a way she understands. He is patient and has been good at keeping in touch with her teachers and also with us.

We haven't actually worked with our tutor yet, but Colette has been fabulous! She responded to e-mails promptly, answered our questions, met with us, and worked out a schedule that works for everyone. So far, we couldn't be happier!

I am a third year college student, and I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in child development, and then I plan on completing a credentials program to become a special education teacher. Also, I currently have a 3.7 GPA. I was previously working on pursuing a career in nursing; therefore, I have taken science classes, including physiology, microbiology and molecular biology. I also have taken a total of four years of Spanish and completed other courses in math, English composition, world history, psychology and sociology. When tutoring, I'm willing to meet up at local coffee shops!

About

I tutor math, physics and chemistry. Most of my students have been high school students, but I have also tutored college students and graduate students (statistics: MBA students, PhD candidates.) I earned good grades in high school and college, majored in psychology and statistics, earned a PhD degree in statistics, and worked as a statistician in medical research. I have tutored since I was in high school, and as a graduate student in college I taught introductory psychology, and statistics at all undergraduate levels and I tutored undergraduate students and graduate students. In my tutoring, I emphasize skills that students can learn that they can use to teach themselves in my absence. It starts with simple things like looking up words in the index, memorizing definitions and then coming to understand them by picking up the meanings in parts, practicing what they have already learned so that they can do it over without repeating old mistakes, and thus do them faster and build on what they already studied, repeating back to me, using technical language lecture style, what the principles are that they employ in solving each problem. Drill and explanation have been shown to be very good at building skills and generalizing knowledge to new problems. I also give a short lecture on the neurophysiology of learning, to support the idea that drill in conceptual learning is as important as "reps" in athletics, because "the brain grows to do what the mind forces it to practice," and the processes occur on all time scales, minutes up to months.

About

I have been tutoring math and science for over 10 years. I have worked with fifth graders through college students. I have tutored fifth- and sixth-grade math, all levels of middle- and high-school math, and college-level math (college algebra through calculus). I am extremely patient when it comes to tutoring. I have learned that sometimes, it might take me explaining a problem multiple ways before someone will finally understand it. To me, it is worth the time and effort it takes me to figure out how someone can best learn and understand the problems. It is extremely rewarding when you finally see your students understand the material and gain a confidence that they did not have before.

My goal is to provide such an educational environment for students who are interested in learning math or chemistry to be able to attract one hundred percent of materials at the first time reading. No need to review again. No need to do a lot of practice and so on. Tutoring math and chemistry for K-12 students as well as college levels would be my profession, and I am very happy with my job.
