Juan was extremely accommodating to my request for a window A/C installation. He was able to come see the space the same day to assess the window measurements and even went to the store to buy the unit for me. Installation took under 2 hours and it's an excellent job! He made sure to leave my place clean too. I'm extremely happy with my new unit and Juan's service.

So pleased! Eddie's Professional Painting was the first to respond to my ad. I called, we talked, and I hired on Friday. As planned, Mario showed up at 8 a.m. on Sunday and was finished in approx. 7 hours. Mario worked straight through - I don't think he even took a break. His painting was excellent -- and we're talking wood trim around 9 windows and a large patio door, as well as painting repaired stucco adjacent to the trim (different color). I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Thank you very much -- and thanks to Thumbtack as well! Elaine Burroughs

Sean did a great job with our bathtub and tile remodel. He was kind, helpful, prompt and professional. The tile work is just what we asked for and he did some extra work that included plumbing, bathtub glass door install and repaired our bathroom vent as well. He more than earned a 5 star rating!!!!

Brandon met me at Lowes at 8:30am to pick up supplies. We got to my house around 09:15. He fixed a broken kitchen cabinet. He painted my bathroom including the trim around the window. He hung a Venetian blind in my 2nd bdrm. He replaced my old toilet with a new and improved version. All four of these tasks were part of the estimate. Brandon also unclogged my bathroom sink-not part of the estimate- he just did it. Brandon was finished around 3:45pm. He knew all the tricks that help a contractor save time, but still get the job done correctly. I am extremely happy with the results and definitely will be using Brandon for future jobs. Thanks Brandon! Mark Gonzales

Outstanding communication, craftsmanship, and timeliness. John provided a competitive bid for the installation of a new garden window, casement window, and two doors for a 1960s stucco home. John and team showed up on time and completed the work ahead of schedule and on budget. Result looks and functions great. I plan on using them again!

Jim has done so much work at my house! He replaced my brick fireplace with stacked stone and a custom made mantle. It looks amazing. Then he put crown moulding up, even on the kitchen cabinets. He modified the kitchen cabinets so they could hold glass inserts, installed a wine fridge, backsplash, and custom wood counter. All of his work was perfect! I can't wait to get him back to remodel my guest bathroom. I saw one he did and it looks like it's right out of a magazine.

I had the pleasure of working with Nick with the replacement of my windows and sliding doors on my home. I was a little overwhelmed with the idea of this project and process, however, Nick eased my worries and explained the entire process and gave me a great timeline from the start to finish. He was on schedule and the whole installation went very smoothly. He was really professional and listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. I would recommend Left Coast Windows to my family and friends.

Pacific Homeworks do great work. They have replaced our roof 5 years ago, did our patio cover and now we just had them installed some new windows. They have good repeat customers discounts, they offer financing and are easy to work with. The crews are very tidy and the jobs get done quickly and professionally.

The process was very smooth. A sales rep came to our home and gave us a full inspection and estimate for our windows. He went over all of our options and pricing. We signed a contract and within one week we had an installer at our home remeasuring our windows and ordering them. Our windows were installed 3 weeks later all in one day and they look absolutely beautiful. I couldn't be happier!

Nick replaced our master bath tile/shower surround including demo of old surround, raising shower head, replacing fixtures, adding new cement board, and adding new tile surround. We selected a classic white tile with glass inlay since that bathroom is fairly small and it would've been too much to have big tiles all the way to the ceiling. He was very easy to work with, very fair in his estimate, very clean and neat, cleaned up his mess at the end of each workday so we could still use our room, was great at brainstorming with me and flexible to adjust our design as we adjusted some minor things along the way, finished on time, and was very respectful to our family and our time as he worked in our home. I look forward to having Nick help us with other projects in the future. I highly recommend you give him a chance – – I think you will be happy you did.

We needed a drain at the end of the drive way to stop water from flooding in to our garage because our driveway slopes down to the house. There was also some stucco and wall damage that needed to be taken care of. We also needed a random window taken out and wood siding to be put up. AML Leon Construction did a wonderful job. All the employees were very nice and professional. Like all construction work on older houses once construction starts you usually run in to a situation of needing more work done then anticipated. But Leon Construction made us feel conformable and explained the reason for whatever else needed to be done they gave us other options for the extra fixes but in the long run we wanted to do things the best way. We trust the work that Leon Construction did on the house and we will certainly use them again for the rest of the work that we need to get done, we definitely would recommend Leon Construction to anyone who needs work done on there house. Thanks Leon Construction you guys are awesome.

We recently hired Sun State Glass to install a frame-less shower enclosure and replace an old, failing insulated glass unit in an exterior door. When evaluating contractors I consider three core factors (in no particular order): time, quality and cost. The crew from Sun State Glass showed up on time and finished on time; The quality of the finished installations meets our expectations in all respects; Their bid was the lowest of three we obtained and we are happy with the value received for the price. I can recommend Sun State Glass for this type of work without hesitation.

Window solutions replaced all the old windows in my house over the course of about a year. Each time thry came out they where professional and efficient. We had zero issues with scheduling, installing, or sticking to budget. We have had a few manufacturer issues with the windows. Window solutions assisted in getting those issues taken care of with the same level of professionalism as they did installing the windows.

BEST MOVING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE, and I move a lot: * * * HECTOR DOMINGUEZ 619-607-5323 * * * (Also a great handyman) He worked for United Van Lines for 13 years, packing and driving large semi moving trucks. He knows how to pack a truck, perfectly. He is meticulous and not one item was broken or had a scratch. He does not have a truck, so if you rent a truck, he will move you. Trust me, it will be worth it. He and his friend / worker Juan did an excellent job for me. He asked I pay Juan separately, which I did. They loaded a 3 bedroom house in 5 hours, and were so careful with packing breakables / fragile items. He took great care with every single box and piece of furniture. Fragile items such as TV's, computer monitors, framed glass pictures, lampshades, etc. where packed under tables, covered and protected with old pillows. I had moving blankets and some old sheets, duvet covers and pillows and he made it work, protecting everything. To save me a second trip, he took the legs off of my dining table and coffee table so everything fit on one trip. Savings of gas/time and even an extra few hours of payment for himself. He saved me money. I rented a Penske truck from Home Depot and put him on the rental agreement as a driver and he drove the truck. He drove semi-trucks across the country for years so this was cake for him. EXCELLENT HANDYMAN, to boot! Old and new place had some problems, he fixed them all. From dirty baseboards to holes in the walls, he plastered/sanded and repainted. My dog chewed the door jamb down to the wood - paint and all, and he built it back up with a compound and painted it. It looks like new. I have a before and after photo to show his great handyman capabilities. He's just as meticulous with his handyman work and aims to please, going above and beyond. My old place had filthy loaded with dog hairs behind the couches and he cleaned them, removed my shower heads with a wrench, dismantled a metal garage stackable shelf and replaced the the A/C filter in my new place. I COULD NOT GIVE A HIGHER RECOMMENDATION. THE BEST! As honest as the day is long. He met me back at my old place to paint over some holes after the plaster dried, and fixed some window coverings. He arrived on time, during evening rush hour, AFTER I paid him. But, I fully expected him to show up, his word is his bond, I've come to learn. Great experience. I'll use him again for sure. My friend just hired him for some handyman work at one of her rentals at my recommendation, and had a great experience. He works on old cars as a mechanic too, not modern vehicles with computers.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
