FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing is based on my time, and what is required by the individuals and family involved. I charge a minimum of $100 to participate. If the wedding couple would like to schedule meetings to discuss what they want in greater depth - which always makes for a more meaningful service, then those meetings would be charged by the hour. The time it takes me to prepare materials is not charged by the hour, but is included in the officiation fee for the event.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. There are annual meetings of the American Humanist Association that have meetings/training for celebrants. I also am involved in numerous freethought organizations around the country, so I am very knowledgeable about the growing traditions and the typical sensibilities of nonbelievers, humanists, and atheists.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I know that people value ritual and tradition, but that many of our rituals are from religious traditions that we no longer believe or practice. However, people, being people (the very same species that created all the religions and rituals in the first place), have a need to celebrate the most special and meaningful moments in their lives...like the birth of a child, important milestones in the lives of their children, weddings, commitment ceremonies, funerals, and memorial services. Members of religious institutions have obvious advocates within their houses of worship. But what about the nonbelievers? They have me!
