My 10 year old child has been taking private violin lessons for over two years. In that time we have cycled through several teachers in an attempt to find someone who could actually teach. She would put in the time practicing, yet continued to spin her wheels with a thousand different variations of “Twinkle, Twinkle.” (Pass the Tylenol.) Simply put, we were not seeing any notable results. Since she began lessons with Dimitry in February, she has progressed significantly. Her growth has shifted from completely stagnant to shockingly exponential under his tutelage. In only 3 months’ time, she has advanced from Suzuki Book 1 to a rather challenging piece. Last week she auditioned for and was accepted into the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra, a feat which would have been completely unattainable before starting with Dimitry a few months ago. Most importantly, my daughter now enjoys playing the violin and does so with confidence and passion. She appreciates Dimitry’s straightforward yet motivational style of instruction and looks forward to her weekly lessons. We highly recommend him to all those looking to take their musical studies to the next level.

My wife started our 15 year old daughter on violin lessons over Christmas break- since then she has gained confidence in her playing and the sound is much improved as well. She loves the duets that her teacher brings to play together, and it has taught her how to listen more and helped in school orchestra as well. Thank you Jamie!

I wanted a teacher that could work with an older adult who not had piano lessons since childhood. After many years, I wanted to challenge myself by getting back into piano and I wanted to bring music back into my life. I was a bit nervous about making the commitment and about the time investment that would be required. I also didn’t know a good teacher so I asked around. Howard’s name came up. He was recommended as a patient and knowledgeable teacher that would do wonders with students. Howard’s approach is not the conventional one that I experienced as a child. He presents many types of approaches and uses lots of tools and techniques to build your skills and understanding of the structure of music. Now, I’m stretching myself to learn, remember and apply these skills and it feels really good! I actually enjoy practicing my piano. Now thats a testimony to Howard’s influence! If you are looking for a teacher that can accommodate your needs, encourage and inspire you, meet Howard and try him out. I’m confident that you will be very pleased with him as a professional and as a teacher.

I signed up my 7 year old daughter for violin lessons through TakeLessons and Artem's profile seemed the most appealing to me. I wanted my child to study with the best teacher I could find. My daughter had never played violin before and Artem was able to get her to perform at his home studio class within two months. He is very friendly, knowledgable and knows how to explain difficult concepts to children and their parents. He does want one of the parents present during lessons and writing down important points, which I think is brilliant and helps me understand if my daughter is doing what she is supposed to do when she is practicing at home. He is also always readily available through text or email - I can always ask him about anything if we run into any problems or confusions.

My 10 yr old son has been taking private Violin lessons at home with Brandon for the last 4-5 months. My son enjoys learning from Brandon. He gives a lot of focus on getting the basics right, something which my son didn't learn in his group Violin classes at school.. My son finds him very funny and likes that Brandon gives him little tips like rhymes/beats which help him remember his notes better. There are times he comes a little late because of heavy traffic but he always sends a message and lets us know about it.We are looking forward to learning more from him.

My son can't wait for the next semester of his alternative string group (ASG) to start up again! Jacob has taught him so much about being creative and passionate about the violin and music, which has been a liberating complement to years of school orchestra. SPLA is a unique program with the most positive and inspiring teachers possible- so thankful to be a part of it!

My 2 grandchildren started taking violin lessons with Chloe, ages 5 and 6, March of 2013. They have continued with her and have progressed very nicely. Chloe has a beautiful touch with small children. She is patient and cheerful, yet demanding as well. As small children and beginners, she stared them with a modified Suzuki method, introducing other beginning material as well. She is young and recently graduated, but I knew she was a natural born teacher when I realized after just a few lessons that she gave two different lessons to the children, adjusting and modifying her information and method according to the needs and strengths of each child. We have been very happy with her teaching and the children have developed a very positive attitude toward the violin.
