In our first meeting he gave me a verbal estimate and quickly followed up a few hours later with a formal bid. He's a straight shooter, and I felt like I was getting a great deal. Second, I didn't know exactly what I needed to be built in my project (getting rid of a doorway between my kitchen and a bedroom), but Shane was a great partner in the creative process. He's really easy to work with. Third, he was able to save some crown molding from the original door frame and use it in the bedroom once the door was removed. This not only saved money, but it worked perfectly visually. A different carpenter had missed that detail in his estimate and assumed he would have to rebuild the molding from scratch. Also, for the baseboard in the bedroom, which is also hard to find (100 year old building), Shane copied the style and made it from a different type of molding. I am very happy with the finished product. On the bedroom side, you can't tell there was a door there. On the kitchen side, I have a nice decorative feature. Thanks Shane!"See more

If you are looking for a mediocre job, with lots of failed promises and missed deadlines, Bert is your guy. He even told us after our bathroom remodel and addition of a bathroom in our 1907 Victorian that he wasn't proud of his work. The list goes on and on for the mickey-mouse quality work his team performed.

He cut holes in roof for vent pipes and didn't seal them - at all! Literally, just holes in our roof and when it rained, it started leaking through the living room ceiling. Speaking of leaking, while cutting the glass tiles for the new shower (currently there are 9 tiles that are cracked within a few months after "completion" of the job) in the upstairs bathroom, they spilled so much water the living room and dining room ceilings were leaking multiple times. The vent ducts in the attic weren't connected and were just venting humidity into the attic. The fixtures are loose, the shower floor isn't level, the sides of the tiles aren't straight, the list goes on and on...

Really nice, personable guy- not a good contractor.

I interviewed several different contractors I found through couple of websites (Yelp & Thumbtack) for a recent remodeling project. Frano, owner at Sol Builders, was the fifth and last I met with, but I liked him the best. He offered practical suggestions and smart advice at the initial meeting (moving kitchen walls, enlarging a storage closet and putting laundry in it), which the other four contractors didn't bring up at all. Of the five bids I received, Frano’s was pretty much in the middle, so I hired him.

The house is a duplex consisting of a main unit (2 bedroom/2 bathroom), separate guest unit (1 bedroom/1 bathroom), and a garage (2,200 sq. ft. total).

It was built in 1918 and was in need of a major repair including the following: kitchen and bathroom remodels in both units (new cabinets, appliances, tile floors, fixtures, drywall, ceiling); new central air & heat installation; complete plumbing and electrical upgrade throughout; interior and exterior paint; hardwood floors refinishing; carpet installation; building new deck, new outside gate and fence; attic insulation.

It was a complex project with a long list of tasks, details, decisions and deadlines, but thanks to Frano it was a smooth ride the whole 10 weeks, from the beginning to the end. He got all the permits and passed inspections on time.

He worked with his structural engineer to knock down walls to open up my kitchen, and to install concrete pads, posts and a beam. His sub-contractors are very skilled and great team players. He got me contractor's discount at several vendors (tiles, kitchen cabinets and hardware, all faucets).

Frano was on site every single day, and also communicated via text and phone several times a day giving me updates. He handled any issues that came up with ease, humor and professionalism. The project finished on time and looks exactly like I imagined it. I’m very happy to leave a positve review for Sol Builders on few different websites for a project that gave me lot of anxiety before we started.
